Does the 2014 6.2 require premium fuel

Recommended Posts

You will see a boost in hp and mpgs. Might take a tank or two for the computer to learn, but the quality of the fuel will matter as well.

Interesting, I have kind of a lead foot and all I have been getting so far is 13 mpg with about 750 miles on the truck so far. Which is about the same as my old 2013 and 2011 Silverados. Im going to try the 89 octane and see what happens.. I do not mind paying the extra 10 cents a gallon for more power and better fuel economy!

The compression ratio is 11.5: 1. You can bet it needs premium fuel.

Look for top tier fuel suppliers & you can also check gas buddy for the best prices in your area.

On Premium, it is pretty easy to find $.20 cents per gallon differences, even with top tier stations.

It doesn't require premium fuel, it is RECOMMENDED to get optimal power.

I Have to chime in on this one.. I have the 5.3 in my '12. The first 8 months or so, I ran 87 and kind of felt like something wasn't right. Granted I had the 6.0 in my last truck but still. I switched to 91... Literally night and day. It runs better and has a little extra pep these days. I wouldn't say 50 extra HP but the difference is noticeable.

Since I plan to keep this truck for a while, the little extra cash it costs me to fill up is worth it.

Of course 87 can be used, but you are missing out on 40-50hp. It needs a minimum of 89 to be optimal. Marketing at its finest by GM. If they told buyers they had to run premium, less people would be inclined to buy them.

40-50hp. No way.

Yes & at $50k to be rolling around in a knocking truck w/retarded timing to save a couple bucks on fuel? So it "needs" premium.

As far as 40-50 hp in post 22. That would rock, but the premium line would be longer & more expensive.

They dyno'd a new 2014 K2 with the 5.3 on both premium & E85. The result was roughly 14 hp for the E85 with factory tune.

Now add a Black Bear tune, well you would have to talk to those guys on the differences that would make.

6.2 isn't flex fuel, not sure if premium is required or recommended.
