Seat Movement Issues

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 gmc sierra with 25k miles that has had this issue since day one. :banghead:

thought about taking it to the dealer, then realized ... :nonod:

my fix was/is:

go back to where hotrodz37 shows pics

look under your seat

i used (3) #10 hose clamps @ 79 cents each

i couldnt find the " C " clamps FOR THE RUBBER but i had a strip of rubber 3mm (just under 1/8") thick

cut 2 pieces 5/8" wide x 2 1/4" long

i clamped the rubber in using the hose clamps exactly how the pics show, on the inboard sides of the white stock clamp

rubber on the top of the 1" tube, hose clamp head towards the floor.

crank down using a cordless impact: :lurk:

first test drive, perfect except felt a clunk pulling into driveway.

added hose clamp with rubber to the "outboard" side of the white stock clamp.

using 3 clamps with rubbers

SEAT NOW FEELS VERY VERY SOLID

hopefully it holds

feels great now, no dealer involved :flag:

Ok cool. I understand where members are putting the clamps on the inboards but didn't understand the part of using "3 clamps".

the third clamp goes to the "outboard" side, (side closest to the door) of the stock white clamp. the other clamp doesnt have room on the outboard side.

its kinda hard to explain, but extremely simple. ill try to post a pic later today.

Ok I understand now. I see it's 3 total clamps. It sounded like you were using 3 additional clamps with the 2 original in board clamps. Thanks

I believe my 2015 is starting to have this issue. I've noticed some very slight movement in my seat bottom at times when I'm taking left and right turns or curves in the road. If not for this thread I'd probably not even notice it. I have about 2200 miles on the truck now, so this is pretty irritating to say the least!)

At any rate if I use the hose clamp fix ,(it bothers me a lot to have to do this on a brand new expensive truck!!!) But I was thinking about using some 3\4" heater hose for my rubber. Any thoughts on that? It is pretty sturdy stuff. I took a quick look at my seat bottom this morning and I can see the infamous white brackets. Who would use this for a seat in the first place? What a weak, dumb design.

When I touched the round steel bar it had some sort of lube on it, so I'd assume that has to be cleaned off first? Also can the seat be adjusted fore and aft, up and down after the clamps are on? Do they side with the plastic clamps somehow? I'm just trying to understand how the seat itself operates before i install the clamps.. I figure the dealer is a waste of time so why bother and might as well put the clamps on now if there are no adverse effects before it gets bad right? Thoughts?

Thanks

G

+1...I'd like to know also if the clamps hamper the complete movement/slide/power etc of the seats. I'll more than likely take a few hours trying to figure out how to do this this weekend...still AMAZED at how GMC designed seats like this...

the clamps i installed have not changed anything as far as function of the seat.

also, i wiped of the lube that was on the 1" bar.

I think some of you guys are overthinking this. The fix is very simple and is very quick and easy to do.

You may notice your seat getting creakier without the lube, unless you just wiped it off in the middle. I took my seat out of the truck and removed the plastic retainers, then lubed the entire bar. Before doing that my seat was very creaking, just using my hand to push in the center of the seat was very loud. Now its silent.

Excellent info. Thanks for confirming that information. I see no reason not to put the clamps on now. If it does not affect the functionality of the seat.

One interesting thing I noticed is my seat only seems to move after the trucks sat outside in the sun all day at work. (And parts have expanded)?? I notice the movement on the way home. It's very slight but I notice it. Feels like the seat bottom is shifting side to side slightly when in turns when a load is against it. It's odd to say the least

At 5600 miles, I recently developed the click feeling under my butt. I don't feel like the seat is moving, but there is definitely something going on with it around turns. Reading through this and seeing someone mention something about the seat height being all the way up, I lowered the front part of my seat for the drive home. Note I only have the front part of the seat up to provide under leg support, I only lowered it a tiny bit and the click was gone for my entire drive home. If it returns I'll do the same hose clamp trick everyone is using.

Also I notice my seat creaks when I push on it, but it sounds more like paper is underneath the leather. It sounds like paper is crunching, but it's only when I push down on the seat.
