Seat Movement Issues

I had my truck into the dealership a few weeks ago for seat movement issues and it seems they added two small clips to fasten the seat cushion to the frame. At first it seemed it may be better (I think it was psychological), but I now have movement in the seat again. I see the clips are still there, but I get seat movement (lateral and forwards/backwards, not up and down) in turns and braking. It definitely feels like the bracket to me as the movement is small but sudden and clunks, not smooth like the cushion is sliding. Every time I get in the seat clicks/clunks a little in a manner that makes it seem as if it is taking up the slack in the bracket bushings or pivot points.

 

Anyone who has had the actual seat bracket replaced have any better luck fixing the issue?

 

is it the same bracket without a fix to address the slop in the bracket?

 

This is ridiculous to have this happen on such an expensive vehicle. I know it is a new model blah blah blah, but things like this fall under the basic fundamentals. Figure out how to make a seat!!! Venting over....Thanks for the help and otherwise I love the truck so far, but get frustrated over such elementary things going wrong.

 

I had to take my truck in 4 times for this issue. One time they replaced the pad. Didn't work. Next clips were changed. Still had an issue. I then recorded it with my phone and set it in to the service writer. That helped and it got the manager involved. The 3rd go around they took it to another shop and said it was fixed. They put more foam in the seat and said that was it. Well still not fixed. The 4th go around the manager laid in the back seat and put his ear to it. He heard it from the frame. They replaced the Frame of the seat and 2 months later I still don't have the issue. Such an annoying process but it's over with now.

You gotta love the same old tiring response from Jennifer the GM rep.. "Sorry for hearing bla, bla, bla give us your mileage and vin number so I can dial a phone and make an appointment for you" like we are idiots and can't make our own appointment. What a joke, I've never seen her once answer a question or help a single person on this forum.. Why even bother?? Seriously...

Apparently she has strict guidelines from the GM management what she can say and offer, so do not judge her too harshly.

So After leaving my truck with the dealer last Friday and taking a loaner to go back to work, they called a couple of hours later and said the mechanic could find nothing wrong with my seat. He "tightened a few things up" and has put the seat back in my vehicle. I'm just a little frustrated. I told the dealership that I would pick the vehicle up and that if the problem persisted or returned that I expected them to Follow the PI-1138 that they had printed and sent to the mechanic. I've driven the truck in regular fashion over the weekend and to date the seat has not moved, or made noise. We shall see. What is frustrating is that I explained the problem in detail, the service writer found the PI-1138 on her own without me mentioning it and sent it to the mechanic. The Mechanic chose to ignore the information in PI-1138, then chose to ignore the complaint that the seat moves when turning or breaking, did a cursory pulling of the seat and really did nothing to fix the issue other than "Tighten a few things up."

 

I have sent email to [email protected] but haven't heard back. There was a recall on the passenger seat not securing properly and that was fixed. I sure hope they fix this issue before something happens to us that causes an accident. :help:

Nobody is judging her at all. There is nothing personal here, she is just a girl with a job. The issue is the job is basically a joke.. They are just here so people can say, "Wow, that GM, they care enough to have reps on the message boards".. I have been on other GM boards and it's the same on all of them. All these reps do is come in and ask for your information. I have really never seen any of them offer any actual help or solve any problems. And when they got caught lying in the radio/hvac knob thread they just dissapeared.

Had my truck back in for the moving, clunking seat. PI 1138 bulletin was used. New retainers were added. The movement and noise is gone...however, it still seems to me that the seat shifts slightly, maybe it's just me and I am so used to it shifting and clunking that I am anticipating movement. Time will tell.

How are the other PI 1138 bulletin users making out???

Your best bet to prevent another seat breakdown is to lose about 100 lbs.

GM designed these seats for very light people.

You guys bring up a good point. I've lost 25 pounds since January and man, my seat doesn't seem to move near as bad. I suppose if I'd loose another 20 like my plan is it will not move at all... :bs:

yep, wife was complaining about this on her truck and i never even mentioned I read this info.

 

So she went to dealer for new steering wheel (leather coming off by left control buttons) and mentioned this to them.

They have to order new seat clips cause the current ones are broken.

 

So no copy of PI 1138 bulletin yet???

I am about to hit 5k and I'm starting to notice when going around corners my seat feels like it just barely moves a very slight bit..

Take a guess. But your real question should be who supplies the seats for GM and where are those assembled?

 

As far as your advice not to adjust the seat while sitting in it, how are you supposed to adjust it? This is ridiculous all right.

Yes it is ridiculous. I was just taking a jab. You should of course be able to adjust it while sitting in. sorry it came across a serious. I am on my second 2014 silverado . SAME PROBLEM,BOTH TRUCKS.

It is obvious that the real fix is to redesign/modify the entire seat frame. However, as it is, GM will continue these dumb bandaid fixes until customers simply give up and go away, or until warranty runs out, or both.
