Fuse question for horse trailer

Sorry if this is obvious and has been asked before, but i'm a dummy. Anyways, I have a 2013 2500 and I pull horse trailer with it for my daughter. Anyways, there are interior lights for the trailer (tack room) and the dealer I bought the trailer off of said that the auxilliary fuse needs installed for them to work. I looked in the owners manual for the location of said fuse and i'm at a loss. The closest I could find was 68 (I think) under the hood and the owners manual said something like trailer battery or accessories or something like that. I pulled the fuse cover and it appears it already has a 40 amp fuse in that slot. Does anybody know where this auxilliary fuse is located?

Under the hood box. It is a Maxi fuse. Mine had a plug in it.

This was where I had to put my 40 amp maxi fuse

Also the wire has to be hooked up to the post just outside the box. I believe the wire will be taped to the harness, just below the main fuse box too.

Thanks for adding that. It was prewired on my truck, but I have an 04

Ok, none of the fuses worked after I tried them so today we took the horse out to the pony club and I started talking with one of the husbands out there. We got the owners manual out and was reading around. For some reason, he told me to turn my lights on. I manually turned them on and Viola, the inside trailer lights work.

Thanks for all the responses.

You shouldn't have to turn your truck's lights on to get the inside trailer lights to work. On my 2010 with max trailering package, I had to add a fuse and connect a wire by the fuse block. Now when my enclosed trailer is hooked up via the 7pin connector, I can flip the light switch in the trailer and have lights with my truck turned off (truck lights off, ignition off, and engine off).

I agree with SouthCo, you shouldn't have to turn the truck lights on first. Last w/e, I helped my wife move her horse to another stable. We hooked up her horse trailer and did the usual walk-around safety check. It was daytime and the truck lights were off. I flipped the interior light switch and the lights worked.

Could be that the trailer wiring is wrong, not your truck. Also could be working as designed (why would you need interior lights if it's daytime). I would take the trailer back to where you bought it and have them show you how it's suppose to work on one of their trucks.

Even if the fuse is installed the wire may not be. On my 2011 it was bundled up under the brake booster/master cylinder. I would agree that it seems unreasonable to have of have your lights on to power trailer lights but I know nothing about horse trailers so maybe they're unique.

I think the horse trailer is not wired to the power wire of the truck but to the running lights of the truck..

you can buy a 7 plug tester, cheap to see if your plug on the truck is working properly, and it is just the horse trailer wired incorrectly.

Even cheaper is a test light. Gtound it and find if the circuit is hot for the 12v constant
