Price paid?

Recommended Posts

I went shopping for a High Country and ended up stopping at a GMC Dealership where I bought my Denali. I probably should have checked with other GMC dealers before closing my deal, but the Salesman went the extra mile by swapping the 22s on my truck for 20's and knocking the option price off the MSRP, included a bed liner, leveling kit, and swapped the factory tires for BF Goodwrich 275/65s AT KOs.

Really the only options that I know the truck doesn't have is the trailer brake controller and moon roof.

Out the door less taxes was $46307

I'm going somewhere with this:

Would you have bought your Denali if it had the sunroof and the trailer brake controller ($1225.00 more MSRP)?

I might have... Considering that this thread is about pricing and I am unsure of the exact MSRP, I figured adding that My truck has every option except the sun roof and trailer brake controller. It also has the 5.3.

Thanks for responding.

I have a regular SLT with, really, every option except the power sliding rear window and the 6.2. Why in the world would the order guru at the dealer specify a truck with all the options except that? It makes no sense to me, and I would have liked to have had the slider. My 2013 had it.

I think a Denali would deserve a sunroof and a trailer brake controller.

And why do the order gurus order every truck interior in black? Every lot you check, same thing.

I have the Cocoa/Dune interior. LOL

I wish I had black.

My 2013 SLE CC was black/black so I thought I wanted something different.

Hey guy, this is my first post here. Been reading the forums for a few days and thought I'd join, seems like a great site.

Walk. Go to another dealer.

I contacted eight dealers via email, telling them exactly what I wanted, that other dealers were contacted also, and asked for their best price VIA EMAIL. Several called me on the phone and tried the high pressure bit.

The worst one:

Ring Ring.

Hello?

"**BIG VOICE**

" HI, I'm Big Ed, at the Chevy dealership, and I hear you need a truck...etc. " (Basic old-school high pressure car salesman tactics.) He pissed me off in seconds.

I guess following directions isn't his long suit.....He didn't get the sale.

The ones that paid attention tried to give me what I wanted, and I went for the lowest price, out the door. No pressure, no bullshit.

Using the email method, I was in control, not the salesman, and I saved about ten thousand dollars off MSRP for my All Star Edition.

It works.

This x1000000. I don't get why people want to set foot in a dealership these days unless they are going to drop of the check and pick up the keys. Negotiate your price before you set foot on the lot even if to test drive....The dealer loses all the edge when you do this.

Was this with trucks that were on the lot? I'm going to be buying a truck in a few months (still saving up!) and I'm thinking I'll end up ordering, since it seems harder to find what I want in a regular cab. Would this emailing method work when ordering?

The one thing about ordering is that to get this option you have to order this package, you can't get this without that, and so forth. I walked into the dealer with my list in hand and it took some computer work and tweaking to get it the way I wanted it. Even then, the computer wouldn't take the order for the camper mirrors until they figured it out the next day. Since I was using the employee discount, the price was left open but they said if any more discounts show up when the truck came in, I would get them. The Monday after black Friday, they called and said I would get an extra $1500.00 black Friday cash if I could come in and settle up. They had the paperwork and not the truck but it worked out. Got the truck three weeks later. My figures for this deal are on page 37. Also many dealers add prices say "in stock units only". And the fine print in some say add another thousand dollars if you do not finance with them. And they also pulled out the destination charges that are added back on. An administration fee "rip off" can run from several to over $500.00. I was charged $35.00 and they said that was all they were allowed to charge under this GM program. My wife bought a late model Chevy Malibu there in March and was charged $85.00. This was all from a small town dealer that is 30 miles south of our metro area. The dealer in the metro area was asking $2300 more even with the employees discount and before any rebates or cash back. In summation, I do believe your best deal will be from an in stock unit and at this time of the year they are switching over to the new model. I have seen some pretty good discounts in the adds, but watch the fine print. If you order, you get it the way you want it but I see a big pain trying to do it by e-mail. Good luck.

Thanks Lorepod, I hadn't thought about that. some of the restrictions on what can be optioned with what are just baffling to me.

I'm still not sure how long it will be exactly before I buy, but it'll most likely be a 2015 unless I happen to find a 2014 that I want. For now I'm just satisfying my truck dreams on the internet and planning it all out!

My dealer factory ordered a sierra crew can SLT 4x4 for me to look at. It's got all terrain pack age and a couple extras. Sticker price is $55,600 about with delivery fees. Canadians get screwed with prices. Anyways, the truck should be here end of July, start of August. Any ideas on what kind of deal I could get?

I'm thinking $50,000 OTD taxes (10%) included (so like $45,000 before taxes). If it's not 0% financing I'd like to be a bit lower than that. Is that unreasonable to ask for?

Located in San Bernadino County, CA. I knew what I wanted:

2014 Silverado LT 4WD, 5.3, All Star Edition, Tungsten.

I used the USAA Car Buying service (really just a free TrueCar.com price tool) to get an inital dealer offer ($34,700). I got a call from a dealer (now Dealer 1) confirming that price. Then I called another dealer (Dealer 2) and asked them to beat it. Dealer 2 beat it. I called Dealer 1 back and asked them to beat it. Dealer 1 matched it and threw in an extra year free oil changes and lifetime car washes. Called Dealer 2, they got all butthurt that I was getting dealers to compete and so I dumped them.

Best part was both dealers were selling me literally the same truck, there was only one that matched my description within 500 miles. Dealer 1 had someone pick it up and sold me exactly what I wanted: $33,353 total out the door, pretty decent for a brand new truck.

I absolutely recommend getting dealers to compete with each other over the phone.

In my opinion, the important thing is to remember that their job is to sell a truck for the highest dollar possible and your job is to buy a truck for the lowest dollar possible and don't feel guilty about saying "No", no matter how nice of a person the salesperson is.

Was this a Double or Crew cab? What was the sticker price?
