My figures have no tax involved since tax is different everywhere

Purchased in Toronto

2016 GMC Sierra 4x4 double cab SLE.

I ordered this truck

Base list price $43,465, total with options and destination charge $52,135

 

Out the door $41,501.61 CAD = $30,293 USD

 

Which is 79.6% of list.

I know the sales manager personally and he said they made $1000 on the deal

Hey guys,

 

First post... total newb when it comes to buying trucks. I'm going to ask a dumb question.

 

So I have been in the market for a Sierra 1500 with the 6.2L engine and the Max Trailering package (which are tough to find by the way in my neck of the woods). I've been dealing with a few dealers 400-500 miles away trying to get the best price. I'm $2-3k apart with a dealer right now on the exact one we want and I'm trying to arm myself with information to go back to them with.

 

Here's my question.... The GM supplier discount... is that something that eats into the dealer's profit or does the factory reimburse them for that? So basically, if they're giving a $5k discount on the truck and there is another $1k factory rebate ($6k in total)... would any savings I could gain through the GM supplier discount be on top of that $6k or would the dealer consider that part of the $5k they were already giving off?

 

Hopefully that makes sense?

 

Also, any discounts I should be looking out for that are less advertised? I'm not a GM owner/lessee, haven't spent time in the military or anything of the sort. I see these conquest bonuses which I believe are for current owners, but thought I'd ask.

Go to the supplier discount website and build it the way you want and search for the truck at dealerships near you. Also you can maybe find that truck by vin on the supplier website and see the numbers. Usually the supplier discount isn't a special deal. They have trucks all around me on sale at the supplier discount price. But with a special truck like you are looking for, the supplier deal might be alright. I'm sure they get reimbursed for that.

Also maybe you qualify for the 2000 rebate for trading in a 99 or newer NON GM car or truck.

 

I got the GM employee price

Sticker was 42250 and that brought it down to 37700 and then got another 10250 in rebates, one being trading in a non GM car (Nissan Altima )

I agree with you, the supplier discount pricing isn't anything earth shattering. That's why I was hoping it would be on top of whatever the dealer was already giving off. If anyone else has a definitive answer to this (post 1736), I'd appreciate it.

 

Also, anyone who has insights on lesser known incentives (Conquest Cash, Credit Union Member), I'm all ears. Trying to close a $2-3k gap with a dealer.

Supplier pricing is a sale price, not a discount or rebate that gets applied. It doesn't get applied on top of dealer discounts. If using this program, the price you see on the supplier discount site is the price you pay, less rebates. If you use this, the dealer is locked into the price they can sell for. Negotiation must then come on the trade side.

 

Conquest cash is available if you have a non-GM vehicle titled in your household. Try to get a private offer (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?/topic/178494-00-Private-Offer-Tips). This is $1500 but can't be used with conquest cash.

 

If you have someone in the household that works in the education field, they are eligible for the educator discount. This is the same as supplier, but you can still use GM Card points, which you cannot with supplier.
