Adding Aftermarket Sub/Amp

Recommended Posts

Ah. The JL Microsub has a grill on it. I don't think the excursion would exceed the grill so I was hoping to just flip it over, screw on two pvc furniture feet on the front edge of the box and call it a day lol.

I finally got around to flipping my JL Audio Powerwedge 10+ sub over so I can load stuff on top of it without worry.

Found these feet on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOUR-4-LARGE-EXTRA-TALL-ROUND-RUBBER-FEET-BUMPERS-AMPS-RADIO-CASES-FREE-S-H-/121231641829?hash=item1c39f80ce5

I first tried just two in the front because I thought I need it to slant but it was wobbly, so I put them in all the corners and the seat still folds down all the way.

By the way the sub appears to be on sale at Crutchfield atm http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13693334/JL-Audio-ACS110LG-TW1.html?tp=114&awkw=78284902527&awat=pla_with_promotion&awnw=g&awcr=69546577945&awdv=c

I have looked everywhere for a wire diagram that duplicates what my 2014 silverado double cab has. Every diagram I look at has different wire colors than what I actually have for one of the front speakers. Has anyone encountered this? Also, it seems as if everyone's speaker wires go into the green harness and my truck is different because there are only 2 wires going into that harness.

We need more information to help man. What harness, location, wire colors etc.

How about disconnecting the bose sub and use those wires for the hi level input? This is what i did for my ram with the alpine system and it worked flawlessly. Also what is this anc system. Haven't picked up my truck yet.. Just getting my audio install ready.

Thanks

The Bose sub outputs are low passed at a pre designated frequency.

If you use them you will be stuck at their crossover point as your highest available frequency.

This may be OK but just something to consider.

The ANC is the Bose noise cancelling system that uses microphones in the cab to send opposing signals to reduce road noise.

Folks with this system have reported issues when they add aftermarket sound systems so usually end up disabling it in some fashion.

Holy hell, this thread is amazing. You guys are all balls-out with all this audio stuff, wow. I only have the standard non-Bose, no sub etc. system in mine and frankly, I have no complaints at all, about how the music sounds, as is. I did adjust the treb, mids, bass, etc. to be how I like it, but no plans to do or add anything to it. I'm already hearing-impaired as it is. Probably should not make anything louder than it can go, lol. I have considered replacing the factory speakers with something higher-end, but since the stereo system will stay the same, I'm not sure it's even worth it, to replace the speakers. I'll listen to any advice or thoughts on this, if anyone has any. Does anyone know what name-brand the factory speakers are?

Can someone please tell me what all I need to buy to make my CC non Bose system sound good but also not crazy expensive.

What's your budget? You can do an entire system for a decent price. I posted a DIY for the non bose system upgrade (top to bottom, all new speakers, speaker wires, 2 amps and 2 subs)

oAfter doing some research and flipping through the orums for ideas, I decided to go with a 10" Rockford Fosgate 500 Watt Slim Woofer and a 500 watt Rockford Fosgate Prime AMP. I'm modifying a prefabricated box that is for 2014+ Crew Cabs when running two subs. I only want to run 1 10" to enhance the Bose system. I've had 2 12s and 2 10s in other cars and don't need all that bass! It will be a down firing box under the single back seat that folds up. This way I still have the storage under the rest of the seats. I will post pictures when it's installed next week.

You could swap out the 6x9's in the door for about $200 with some much higher quality speakers and get much more range of sound. They will be louder, but it is more about quality of sound. I went with the SLT level truck so it had all sorts of packages and add ons (including the Bose). Next time, I will take a lower trim and do everything after market.

Ok guys.... right up front. I know very little about car audio, but do not have the coin to hire someone who does. I am good at soldering wiring ect. Tried to install a sub and amp in my non base 2014 silverado. Followed a YouTube video and tapped into the front speakers (behind the screen with converter, then RCA to the amp ect. Now the sub is trying to play all the tones (not just the lows) and 3verything sounds muddy. Can not even hear the front speakers. Solutions? I know I am simple.

Non Bose system I mean

I'm interested in your DIY where is it located?

Make sure the channel you have the RCA cables going into is set at low pass filter (LPF). This setting only lets low signals pass through that specific channel.

From everything I read you can't upgrade bose systems with any ease. I really wish it didn't come with my all terrain package.

Therein lies the rub ... there's likely a few things we all wish our trucks did or didn't have. When I test-drove a few, there were only a couple of things that were deal-breakers (did not want) and for me, one was that sliding back window. One look in the rear view mirror, and I about had a hissy-fit - those vertical window bars were distracting as hell - no thanks. Secondly, I live in the Chicago area. Where the hell would I ever go off-roading, lol? No Z71 for me, drove one, and hated the rough shocks/suspension. But, I'm sure others love the back window and off-road stuff, we're all different. Ideally, we buy a truck with less stuff on it, then just add what we want. If I choose to replace my 6x9's in the door with Bose speakers, since I'll have the damn door panels off, might as well add the towing mirrors, too. It's fun to think about and do all this stuff, but it is a lot of work, etc.
