Adding Aftermarket Sub/Amp

Recommended Posts

okay so heres the thing im looking at installing two 10" pioneer subs into my 2014 Silverado high country that has the factory bose system with amp and sub. the video and from what I can tell where everyone has run there power wires for aftermarket sub through the grommet on the firewall already has a large cluster of wires going through it so im assuming that ill need to find another spot to come through at. I have heard that I can also run the wires down the passenger side frame rails and through the back venting ? not sure how to do this any tips ??? or suggestions ? ive seen lots for the slt's but nothing on the high country and it just seems like their is more wiring etc. under the hood of my truck going to different places.

I had a custom box built to hold 2 Rockford Fosgate 10" P2 dual voice coil subs under the rear seat with a 1000 watt amp (wired to 1ohm). Its the largest sub we can get under the rear seat, any larger will rub on the carpet, I was slightly disappointed we couldn't get a P3 in there. To get more bass would require porting the cab with the bed.

I used this method to route my power wire. Dropping the wire from the battery location, running it to the back is easy part. Get under there and look for your preferred route. I tucked mine along the outside edge between the gaps in the door jamb supports.

Hardest but not that tough is getting it back into the cab via the vent.

Removing the rear passenger seat is necessary. You will need to pull back on the insulation a bit to find the vent.

I used a straightened hanger to go into the vent from inside down to the underside of the truck, taped the wire to the hanger and pulled it back in. The rest is cake.

The jack bracket bolts are a good spot for your amp ground, use sandpaper to remove the paint in the cab for a solid ground and place your ring between the bracket and cab.

Unless you are a bass junkie consider the self contained JL Audio I used a few posts above.

It is a perfect add on to the Bose.

I've been reading a lot of Silverado builds that use a custom box as we have limited space and unfortunately can't use standard sized sub's. Have any pics of the box mounted in as well as sitting on the bench. Curious how it looks. What is the price to have a box built? I've seen the ones you can buy on supercrew and fox. Curious if a one off is better

I just had it installed Wednesday, taking it back in next week to have the PLC2 "bass control knob" installed in the spot where 3 USBs sit in the console.

I pushed my shop to get the largest 10" they could in there, they thought they couldn't get a P2 but they did... It costs a fortune to ship a prefab box, mine only cost $170 after all said and done. I'll take some photos today.

I had a custom ported box built for 2 JL audio 8w7 in my crew cab, sounds incredible. Tight punchy bass, and hit those very low bass lines and 808s like a boss. 63d9741c4a49d36408533a60ee8e3273.jpg

I really wish I could have installed W7s but I've never had 8's, not sure if that's what I would want. Plus with kids I wouldn't trust those cones not to get kicked facing out like that.

Sob that looks mint. I'm happy w my 10 jl audio powered sub.....for now. I def want something with a little more punch. I'm used to 2 12 in a trunk that the bass would roll thru your body...almost uncomfortable at times. But 2 12s in a silve may be unrealistic ...but a nice box with 2 10s.

Box was about 300.

Crap for that plus 200 a set of good 8s. I spent 400 on my jl and I'm sure your 2 8s kill mine. Well live and learn.

The secret sauce for fitting this large of a sub is the recesses on the top since there is space hiding underneath the bench, you can kind of see those in the 2nd picture. The 3rd just shows the enclosure on its side to how long the sides need to be to allow the subs to throw without hitting the carpet. And lastly the amp is tucked up behind the bench (plenty of space there to mount)
