Adding Aftermarket Sub/Amp

Recommended Posts

Where did you pick up the remote turn-on(blue wire)?

The kicker hideaway has a speaker level input sense circuit. So basically it auto turns on, when you turn on your radio. No blue wire needed [emoji4]

Here is what I ended up doing with my SLE. It's a Kicker Hideaway 8" powered sub. It fits great with the under seat storage and sounds good. qu3e9yvu.jpg9ynatagu.jpg

Is this a double cab or crew cab?

Hey guys. Wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Just bought a 2015 Silverado cc non Bose last week and looking get a little more out of the radio. I have 2 ways of adding a sub and not sure on the best way. One way is getting a powered sub such as this http://www.jlaudio.com/acs110lg-tw1-car-audio-powerwedge-amplified-subwoofer-systems-93334

The other way is a sub box and add a jl audio or whatever and use the California profile amp I currently have

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-V8NM6ZBQ4CA/p_489AP600/Profile-AP600.html

And add a cheap loc.

One thing I was curious on is tapping a signal for the loc or powered sub. I read in here use the rear speakers to tap into..but I thought those had some of the freq. cut out and wouldn't give the amp the correct freqs.??

Another thing is right now I'm just adding the sub and amp..but will be doing doors as well. I have been looking at kenwoods, fosgate and such and curious how it would sound unamped for a while. I'm looking for a clean sound and the sub's to do most of the work. I know I could add an inline "resistor" so the door speakers don't receive the low bass. When replacing the doors are the factory speakers the generic 4ohm or do I need to look for anything specific to switch those out? Thanks for any feedback

Oh I have OnStar on the truck so not sure if that changes anything. Was on sonixectronics and it asked if it was OnStar equipped. it stated no speakers available for my truck.

The cleaner signal for a sub will be from the front speakers. The rears are oddly frequency restricted.

They speakers are 4 ohms

I hear that JL powered sub sounds really good.

I tried to replace my doors with Alpines and not add an amp and I was not impressed with that alone as it took away quite a bit of the small bass the stock speakers have. The sound was a little cleaner but I was not adding a sub at that time so it was an overall step backwards in total sound quality. If you add the sub though, then swapping the doors will help clean up the mids and highs. I'd still seriously consider amping everything though to allow you the ability to fine tune the frequencies and balance (the rears are very underpowered by the stock headunit).

Shu, I plain on amping it all just money constraints. I figure if I get all the speakers that I need that will also pair to adding an amp I can listen right noe to the diminished volume. I figure get the sub/ amp or just the powered sub, door speakers and in done till spring. Then get a good 4 channel amp in the spring and I'll be good. My previous cars I've had crazy loudness and bone breaking bass. All I want now is a clean sound, tight but not ridiculous bass and I'll be good

For the sub guys. What do you recommend ...a ported or sealed enclosure. My music is varied from hard rock , country, pop...

I'm planning to go with that JL powered 10 unit myself.

I like the straight carpeted sides better than the GM Kicker VSS plastic unit. It probably wont be until January when I can afford it though, once the holiday purchases are recovered from. :)

If you install one post and let us know.

As far as factory radio speaker specs I don't know but you can always use a meter across the terminals to determine the resistance.

I have a Bose version, here are the numbers for that: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/159817-dash-speakers/?do=findComment&comment=1710615

Oh and I also prefer a sealed box. A ported box is too tricky to get just right, usually the frequency that gets amplified is not the one I want in my DIY attempts.

I was looking at my friends truck tonight. He has an f350 with a real nice system w the stock hu. He has this box

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Y3HwDvFGE4y/p_500SBRS84/Alpine-SBR-S8-4.html

Along with alpine door speakers and factory dash tweeters. The sub really does bump. Not as low as a 12 but definitely sounds good. He played stuff from country to rock and rap. Country was more solid bass and then he played some bone thugs and harmony and the bass was crazy. I think the jl powered sub being 10 inch and sealed may get me closer to the solid thumping bass plus it should be a lot quicker and simpler to wire up. Hopefully after the Xmas present buying is over this will be the next purchase

If you happen to have the version of Bose without the sub (like me), the wiring is a little different. I was able to grab a very clean signal from the front door speakers. I had trouble finding any wiring info, so here it is if anyone needs it.

Right Front + : Yellow/Black

Right Front - : Yellow

Left Front + : Brown/Blue

Left Front - : Blue

These wires are all in the farthest driver's side harness.

how do you know if you do or dont have the factory bose sub?

Guys - I just traded my old 2014 5.3 for a new 2016 with the 6.2 - and all the noise cancelling stuff. I plan to install my sub and amp from my old truck into the new one.

Do I need to mess with any of the noise cancelling stuff on the new 6.2? Are any of your just leaving it be ?

When you get this installed do you mind giving a little insight or review on the hookup and your thoughts. That is the box I'm interested in and curious on its performance. Man, I hope it works awesome for you! Let us know how it fits under the seat and install time. Def looking forward to hearing more
