Adding Aftermarket Sub/Amp

Recommended Posts

I added a JL 7000 series amp behind my rear seat of my Sierra AT, and replaced all the speakers with Fosgate 6.5 components in front and rear and added a JL low pro 10" sub under the 20 split rear below my sons car seat and made sure to put my baby knob (sub control) close to my seat.

The sound is 100x better than stock.

This Kicker Factory Fit sub is interesting. It is a 10 and should be plug-and-play. It is hard to tell if it really fits the 14 double cabs. The web documentation on it is spotty thin. It may even include a multi-channel amp for (some of) the six factory drivers.

From the Kicker site:

Im more inclined to want a mdf box with more watts in a known high-quality amp. Im still very interested in this Kicker Factory Fit. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with it?

This in fact does fit double cabs. For the ultimate upgrade do part number #19303115

I ran 6x9 in the front door and 6.5 in the back. 2 amps and epicenter and lc2 hidden behind the seat and a 8 band eq to mess with my music . Overall great sound nobody believes they are 8s specially at 500 watts .

I'm trying to post pics as I'm posting

Can you throw up a picture of the subs/box?

NICE! How would you rate the output compared to JL13.5 or 2 10s sealed? Do they have good subsonic impact(feel the bass in the chest/nose, lol)? I was debating 2-3 of those or 2-3 Stereo integrity BM IV's.

I did a little upgrading to my system... built a box to match the contours of the rear seat:

Down firing Pioneer 12" shallow subs:

As you can see in the pictures, I kerfed the corners to get the MDF to bend, so I used fiberglass to stiffen the area back up:

Covered the box in black carpet:

Front of the box is cut out to allow the bass to come out at the rear passengers feet. I plan to make an illuminated panel with a Z-71 logo in that center section:

Built an amp rack to mount behind the rear seat. JBL MS-8 for audio processing, a JBL MS-A1004 4-channel amp for the main speakers, and two JBL MS-A5001 amps for the subs:

Used 2/0 welding cable for power wire... 200 amp breaker on a custom fabricated mount next to the battery:

Ran 3/4 flex conduit under the truck between the body/frame and up into the back next to the amp rack:

Not 100% completed yet, but I have the subs working. (Tapped the audio signal off the wiring in the B-pillar that goes to the rear door speakers.) Sounds really good so far... tight, clear bass with no distortion. (Unless I crank it up to eleven.)

More info on the build here.

Any questions, just ask...

Mark
