nitnoid observations on new Sierra

Recommended Posts

I am awaiting delivery of a 2014 SLE with z71 and SLE Value package. I drove one home the other night and noticed the following (rather unimportant) things.

- This thing has the 8 inch display with backup camera, but appears to not have a dimming rear view mirror. This amazes me that on a $45 plus truck you get the mirror off a '78 impala. I didn't drive this one after dark, and I noticed the autodimming mirror was an option (maybe included) on the SLT. I just sold my 2010 Silverado LT. It came with the old school mirror with the paddle thing on the bottom of it. I bought a dimming mirror off ebay that was off a wrecked 08 or 09, and it worked beautifully.

- The steering wheel controls for the audio appear different. The 2010 had what I thought of as dedicated controls on the wheel for scrolling up and down your favorite stations on the radio. While driving the new one I found myself pressing the up/down buttons on the steering wheel out of habit, and changing the display close to the speedo. Not sure if there is a way to make those things control the station up/down the way I am used to, but this will just be a reeducation/adjustment type thing I am sure.

- Has anyone had their bed sprayed (that included the LEDs)? I talked to the folks that sprayed my last truck and they said they typically tape over the LEDs when spraying a new truck. That sounds plausible.

That is all I can think of for now, I am not hating (at all), and I am very excited about the new addition. The dimming mirror is one of those things that just annoys the ish out of me. My last sales guy scratched his head when I was ranting about it.

Volume controls and scrolling thru favorite stations is done with the steering wheel controls that are behind the steering wheel on each side.

There are two each, on each side behind the wheel. Using your index and middle fingers toggle up or down.

Yes, they mask off everything that you dont want sprayed (Bed rails, lights, etc)

Here is mine that was done yesterday.

I made sure to inform them to remove the plugs on the bed sides so i can still use the tie downs as well as made sure they are aware of the LED's under the rails.

THANKS loads guys, great info!

@JoeK, thats my point about the mirror. I had a mid 00s impala that I paid 12 grand for that had a dimming mirror. And because I am completely weird, that drove me nuts on my 10 Silverado. Until I found a mirror to replace it. Now I am wondering if there is anyway that mirror will fit this new truck....

Thanks again

I don't know, but if you find out let me know. One thing I noticed is with trucks it's not as bad as cars due to the ride height. It's still messed up though, I have so many damn options on this truck but not that.

Are you going to tint? Just tint the back window. I did such and my dimming mirror never dims. Head Lights are no problem. You even have a camera so backing is no problem. I open my slider.
