4x4 Floor Shift

Recommended Posts

I bought a used 1995 K2500 a little while back and it came with the floor shifter.  It didn't come with a manual and I wanted to make sure I am using it properly.  I have only ever used the electronic shift on the fly kind.

I usually come to a complete stop to shift into 4HI and wait until the light comes on.  When using 4LO, I stop, put it in neutral, and shift it.

Am I doing this correctly?  I ask this because when I was out plowing last night I had it in 4LO and I was shifting back to 4HI, I was in neutral, and it made a horrible grinding noise that you could feel on the shifter, as if it was coming from the transfer case.  It seemed to work fine after that.  Just wondering what cause it.

Thanks,

Ryan

I come to a complete stop and push the clutch all the way in before shifting in and out of 4L

4H I shift into while driving in gear and it doesnt make any noise

Newer transfer case though my old one didnt have any problems until recently.

I am going to take it apart and see just wtf went wrong with it the chain probally got loose over time

2 to 4hi and vice versa you can shift while moving. However, if you are accelerating, it may take a little longer for 4hi to kick in.

To go in or out of 4lo, you should be stopped and in Park or Nuetral.
