You definitely need new gears. I ran factory 3.42s on 35s for about a year. It wasn't bad. RPMs were low enough to get me 16mpg at 70. Mathematically, 3.42s in 3rd gear were the same as 4.88s in OD, and once it got out of OD it would pull pretty good. Justin had tuned the truck, and it had a rebuilt trans with a shift kit so it ran pretty good on the highway. However, I always wished it had a lower first gear for offroad and take-off.

Not giving any advice, just my experience, FWIW.

That's what I'm doing now while waiting on my new gears! OD hasn't been used in like 4 months. Gonna be weird shifting to "D" and not "3" here soon haha

I got a 3.08 in my 2010 and have been running 275x70x18 for a couple of years now with no issues. although I am 90% highway I haven't notice a change in MPG (14.8) HWY and I dont tow anything! I am getting ready to add a mild lift soon,3.5 or 4.0 so things may change, just saying!
