Would you buy a truck with 700 miles on it?

Recommended Posts

So I took a truck home today as overnight demo. I was very interested in purchasing it, but when I got a few miles down the road I realized it had 680 miles on it! I've seen a new vehicles with up to 300 or so from having to come from another dealer but 680? That seems a bit high. My last new truck had 95. I'm going to ask the salesmen tomorrow and ask where those miles came from...

Would a mileage that high bother you?

The truck in question:

Wouldn't bother me. New cars get thrashed on by plant workers, rail yard workers, port workers, auto hauler drivers and lot attendants. My Tacoma had like 6 miles on it and others have had 30-50. Never batted an eye.

I purchased a new 2001 GMC Sierra Z71 E. Cab loaded with all options that had 1,100 miles on it in Oct 2000. It was being driven by the owner (older fella in his 60's) of the dealership.

I purchased it because of the price (below invoice) and the color which was new for 2001 and hard to find with options. The warranty started when I got it. Was a good truck and I sold it 3 yrs later for a very good price due to the amount of options it had. The Dealer even delivered the truck to me some 350 miles, they offered free delivery anywhere in the state. I bought it without ever drivng it. I did get see it though because the dealership had lot cams that you could pan around and I was able to zoom in the truck.

Warranty starts at miles you receive it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It won't hurt to ask why it has 600+ miles on it and then decide based on his answer. Of course ask for some sort of compensation, even if it's a accessory or something.

if you like the truck i wouldn't let it dissuade me from purchasing but it would have to be at a discount at least...someone else will always have a vehicle to sell you and the dealership who has the demo knows this.

Also you'd be covered under the Lemon Law in Georgia so you'd have that to fall back on too as it covers demos also

Mine had 1000 miles on it when I picked it up. I got a deep discount since it was "technically" used. It was titled for one month before it had to be returned to the dealer. Their loss was my gain !!

Mine had a tad over 700 miles on it when I purchased it. The dealer GM had been driving it to the various branches of the dealer network. Got a good deal on it, and have enjoyed it every day since I bought it.
