If a state lemon law allows one to force the GM to buy back their vehicle if it cannot be fixed after so many attempts, why isn't there a similar law that would prevent GM from selling the same vehicle, in the same condition as a "certified used vehicle" to another unsuspecting customer through their dealers? Don't they have to disclose that this vehicle is a former lemon buyback and that nothing has been done to it to correct the defect?

My understanding is that if GM buys back the vehicle voluntarily then they don't have to brand it as a lemon. Now say you file a lemon law suit and the court makes GM buy back the vehicle, then it will be branded as a lemon. This may be different depending on your state laws as well.

As for the "exhaust pipe weights", what exactly are those? Perhaps they help alleviate exhaust system vibration?

They are dampers and lessen vibration due to exhaust resonance. Many automotive manufactures use them. BMW, Lexus, Ford, this picture is an obsolete version that Chrysler used. The intent is to add weight, therefore damping the vibration and/or vibrating the damper instead of the floorboard.

If you flip the transmission to M5 and deactivate AFM does it make any change to the vibrations ?

In my truck it did. I used to shift to M5 on any highway with speed limits below 100kph. I now have a tune that manages that for me. Best thing I've done to date is the Diablo Tune. Its like riding in a 70's Cadi IMHO. Just remember it can be anything causing the vibration you feel due to the way these truck are unfortunately designed. If you've been to the dealer and everything supposedly checks out and you feel the V4 shake (probably in conjunction with the truck in some fuel economy can't decide what gear to be in mode) then get the tune. GM support behind closed doors are recommending it to some techs. That's how I got mine. GM will not change the ECM/ BCM program due to fuel mileage. If they did then they would no longer be able to complete with Ford or Ram fuel mileage ratings with their current engine package.

One thing folks need to realize.... these machines are just as much electronic as they are mechanical. Bad programming can cause a vibration also.

Agree they can't openly endorse AFM delete because of reasons you stated. But our old favorite GM maybe could make it available with built in AFM delete and sharper fuel and shift curves in their performance parts . Of coarse it will be for ''off road use only '' and clearly labeled for its intent. LOL

An Economy Mode button should have been part of the design. The loaner Equinox I spent a lot of time driving, drove just as bad a my truck did when its button was pressed. To bad GM couldn't have included this 50 cent button in my $60k truck.

I'm not about to pay for and install an aftermarket part to my truck to fix something that GM need to address. Also this will void your warranty so no thank you.

GM just need to step up and fix these trucks.

I agree.... dealer payed, but was not expecting them to.

My thought process was this. Hated the truck in its current state. Dealer was offering a buyback. I test drove a few trucks and they all had vibrations so I seen no point in another GM. I was prepared to look at the competition and then the dealer in an effort to keep me as a customer offered up the tune. They had previously done the same for other customers with successful results. I felt $500 as opposed to $10000 was chance I would take if it would fix it. Best thing I done. Not saying this is the fix for all but I bet its the fix for some.

Not anymore-GM takes all buy backs and replacement vehicles to a central location where they are auctioned with full disclosure and probably as is no warranty. In 2014 they were letting the dealer sell them and then had to buy some of them back again. What they do in some cases is offer trade assist so that GM is not involved in the transaction and then the dealer does sell the vehicle like any other used...doubt many disclose. With a buy back or replacement the selling dealer does the paperwork and inspects the vehicle for damage (and is reimbursed a few $'s). Then they ship to GM. Just went through this last December.

I am very close to purchasing a 2014 sierra rcsb. i love the look of the truck inside and out, my secondary option is the ram with the 8speed but frankly i like the gm design better.

I stumbled across this thread in my research and 550 pages have me worried. knowing how many of these trucks are sold overall is the consensus that the shakers are the exception and there are fine examples quietly out on the road?

Do you think a thorough test drive would show these problems and this headache could be avoided by choosing a good driver? I intend to keep the truck i buy as long as possible so would hate to run into this issue down the road.

Basically i thought i was all set to purchase my new/used truck but now i'm second guessing myself, please help.

I'm just going to say this.... If you buy one, we can't fix stupid.... or these trucks

My advice would be to make sure that your test drive includes driving the truck on smooth payment and sustain 76 mph for several minutes. My 2015 vibrates and both 2016 loaner vehicles I have driven did the same when you sustain 76 mph.

I wouldn't even bother

Like others have said be very careful. Drive over 70mph and drive a long distance making sure the vehicle is thoroughly warmed up. I have test drove a bunch of 16s when my dealer was trying to talk me into a buy back and they all vibrated. Also keep in mind the dealer buy backs just get resold so somebody elses vibrators ends up on the road again.

correct, if GM buys it back, they have no obligation to tell the next buyer or brand the title. that is only done under lemon law

So my service director is stating that they have hooked the vibration testing machine up to my truck. They stated that there are no spikes in the graph and that they do not see anything that gm would advise them to do work on. I am going to be taking a ride with the technician on Monday. I asked them to balance the rear drive shaft, they didn't do it. I told them about shimming the engine 3mm, I told them about the rear leaf springs and nothing. Getting frustrated!

They generally won't do what you ask because it will not be approved by GM, and will cost them money

I wouldn't get caught up in the absolute number of posts. I think the 90/10 rule may be applicable here - meaning over 90% of posts are made by less than 10% of posters. Example; check out the number of posts made by pm26.

Many of us take part in multiple threads, or have been here for a while, so the numbers you see aren't only dedicated to this thread.

Or a Tundra, go buy a Tundra, I love my mine. Don't miss my Chevy's at all.

But I just can't stop watching this train wreck of a thread. Still feel bad for all of you stuck with these vibrators. Too bad GM couldn't care less if you like your trucks or not, they got your money. Now they will just sit back and wait for the next sucker to walk through the door.

And anyone who would even consider buying a 14 or 15 after reading this thread .....I have some nice ocean front property to sell you in Nebraska.

Why do you think the used lots are full of these things with extremely low miles ??? Yup, they sure do look good and the price is fantastic for a 1 or 2 year old vehicle. But there is a real good chance you will be right back here trying to figure out why GM won't fix your truck.

haha and I have the Golden Gate Bridge to sell them to use as a yard ornament.

that isnt how the state lemon law works. if the vehicle goes through the full lemon law process the title gets branded. If it gets bought back voluntarily by the dealer, its not lemon law.

Technically, it is the 80-20 rule or Pareto principle. I just pulled the reply data here and 80% of the 8,307 replies have been made by 23% (158 of 692) of those posting replies. Still, the same concept, don't get caught up in the number of posts on this thread. There are a few very dissatisfied owners, and they should be, that are having this issue.

To say it is sickening to read these posts is an understatement. I bought my first truck, a new 2015 Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab Z71 and loved it for the first few hundred miles. I could not believe that a truck could handle so well and ride so smooth. Then I took it on the Interstate and noticed a serious vibration at 77-80mph. The center console was dancing a jig, so I figured the back tires must be out of round or not properly balanced. I had only 400-500 miles on the truck, so thought the tires may need breaking in. Today, with 1,400 miles on it, not only does the truck shake between 75-80, but also at random speeds lower than that. I thought I was going crazy. I dropped it off at the dealer on 12/28 and have not heard anything yet. I found this forum Monday evening and it feels like a bad dream. I have driven nothing but BMWs for the last 11years and am not familiar with vibrations like I am feeling with the truck. I am hopeful that the dealer can fix this, but very apprehensive. I will keep you all posted as to my progress. Fortunately Virginia has a Lemon Law and you can bet if the problem cannot be fixed, I will test it.

Update to my post on Dec 30, 2015: Took the truck to my dealer in late December, they kept it a week and determined by Road Force Balancing that two tires, 1 front and 1 rear, were bad and that one rear shock was locked up. Pico showed 30+MG vibration. Replaced two tires and both rear shocks. Pico now less than 15MG. Truck had 1610 miles on odometer when I picked it up from shop. Today the odometer reads 2620 miles and the high speed vibration is still gone. I do feel a few random jiggles from time to time at various speeds, but nothing like the harsh vibrations at 75-80mph. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones.
