Shake or Vibration Issues

The frame and mounts don't cause the vibrations but with stiffer mounts and less frame flex vibrations are felt more easily from what ever the cause is. They are always trying to improve things with new materials and thats a good thing but I believe rubber mounts are the best for absorbing vibrations. Just my thoughts since there is no common fix. Everything is being thrown at these trucks some things work and some don't. I got lucky after tightening the axle u-bolts and loosening my cab mounts and re tightening them my vib has not been back, but could come back at anytime who knows. I also have installed clamps on the leaf springs.

Update

1/22 service manager called. Did pico test. Believes it's the tires. Sending out to RFB. Will send results to GM. Probably replacing 1-4 tires depending on what they say. Will call me Monday. So far owned it 19 days, minus driving to both dealers I put 250 miles on it and a total of 5 1/2 days in the shop. If by chance RFB fixes it I'm doing everything in my power to get there best extended warranty for free. Believe that would be fair. Update on Monday

How tight should those axle u-bolts be? Is there a ft/lb setting?

I think the torque is 78ft/lbs. I tightened mine down in a cross pattern until each one started to give alittle, thats as tight as you can get them before you wring one off.

I thought 78 ft/lbs was for the leaf spring U-bolts. I thought I read that on another thread and that is what I tightened mine down to.

78 ft/lbs is for the leaf spring u-bolts. Body mounts are 122 ft/lbs.

odd that they dont list the pick-ups in this. I think they may really be referring to the pressurization issue in the SUV's more than the vibration we have

I was reading the first section about frame/axles/shocks and improved leafs.

I squashed my suspension right away. And feel the road pretty good now. still loves the way it drives:)

And part of that"considerable effort" included buying and installing substandard quality tires and various assemblies.

I am going to call the dealer this week to take mine in for the seat movement service bulletin, the exhaust valve squeak, vibration at 55+ at WOT, and a passenger door rattle. Will they give you something to drive while yours is being repaired? Or is it dealer by dealer? Haven't taken a vehicle to a stealer in a few years. I am going to try a new on this time...the only 2 times I have taken a vehicle in the last 10 years the have screwed something up. So hesitant to drop my truck off. lol

I just had a thought that I figured I would share. I don't know a lot about the electronic steering in these vehicles but I recall some discussion about it and "smooth road shake". From what I recall, the electronic steering does have some kind of logic to try to dampen or cancel any smooth road shake.

 

What I don't recall anybody reporting from their dealer is any measurements from the Hunter Road force balancer on the lateral measurement it can take. I'm wondering if for some reason there is excessive or significant lateral forces that are causing the electronic steering to get too "involved".

 

Anyone have any comments from their dealer about the lateral measurements on the Hunter?
