I'm thinking that a Rolls Royce might transfer road caused vibration into the car if it should have 10 ply tires. I've been reading this thread closely as I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 Crew 6.2 4x4 with 12k miles and it rides really smooth. In fact , much smoother and quieter than my previous 2008 Silverado Crew 5.3. I've been reading other reviews, Edmunds, others, and I've noticed that many of the posters here are also posting all over the Internet using the exact same postings down to the word, appears a lot of copy/paste is going on. So, I'm beginning to question just how large this problem actually is. Concerning comments that GM may be trying to cover this up; The General is certainly capable of this as history shows by the ignition key scandal. However, GM may have learned its lesson from this as its not over being a judge has recently allowed complainants to sue. One more of these could very well bankrupt the General. So, I'm skeptical about comments that there's a coverup going on. My two bits, calf rope, I'm through :)

buddy, when the poll results are in, you will see what's what. for my selling dealer to mention there "used" to be a vibration problem but it's fixed for 16 and then my servicing dealer to tell me that we can balance the tires but anything beyond that it has to be done by the selling dealer, that's what gm is making us do? you know it's a wide spread issue.

 

i'll say it again, for a variety of reasons these trucks have vibrations or unsettling rides transmitted to the driver especially, there's a an occasional tire problem or drivetrain component not up to spec, but much of that would be tolerable if it weren't for the sub par nvh design. gmc went out of their way to put noise cancelling in the denali's for a reason. issue is too deeply rooted in the trucks design to rectify 100% or it would have been done already.

 

you cannot say that this issue doesn't exist when there's VIDEOS of it all over internet showing you it's happening in all parts of the country.

 

now does that mean more than 1% of owners notice it? or have it? 1% 400000 is still 4k truck owners. and who is going to seek out a forum and this specific topic? so in end poll may show you it's small percentage. not a big deal if you're NOT noticing or care about it because your truck "Masks" the problem better than others. read gminsidenews.com one of the tech contributors on staff hit nail on head. someone's head is going to roll because of this error in calculations in design causing a resonance felt by so many....

Well, first things first; I'm not your buddy, never have been and never will be. And, btw I do understand that even if this vibration problem should affect only a very small percent of total population it's a 100% problem if it's your truck. I'm just skeptical that it's as large a problem as portrayed on this site. I've yet to personally come across anyone that's had this problem that's all. When I see a post stating someone is running juiced up 10 ply tires, I'm thinking duh, picking up road vibration? Really? Also, noticed there's a bunch of backyard mechanics who have made this or that modification to their truck then complain that they've got vibration problems. Imagine that. So, appears to me there's a lack of objective data about this. However, if "my" truck should develop this problem I freely admit that I will probably come over to your side. How's that ?

GM dealer says its the tires (GoodYear Wrangler) that are the cause of the highway vibrations and its normal. Really don't know what to say to that except BS. There is something seriously weird with the way it vibrates. Not just a tire vibration almost like the shocks aren't dampening the vibrations. Going to invest $400 in the Bilstein 5100 has the stock Rancho's on it now.

 

 

Well its been 3 months but I received and installed the Bilstein shocks and Michelin tires for my Silverado. "Problem solved" What a difference those shocks and tires make. Totally different feeling truck. Adjusted the shocks to the highest setting and now with a full tank of gas the front and back are the same height and no more vibrations. Worth the $1400 investment.

 

Wow...is this for real? Can different shocks make such such difference? Please keep us all updated!

Unfortunately no this is not the case. I put Bilstein 5100's on mine and it didn't change a thing for the highway vibe. It rides better around town and would definitely recommend them but if you're looking for it to cure the highway shake it won't. The above poster probably got lucky that his was out of balance tires and when the new michelins were put on the balance was corrected. Plus it is a much better tire so I don't doubt that it reduce or masked the vibes.I have also had 4 sets of tires (all different brands - Nitto, Cooper, Toyo, and Goodyear) and 2 sets of wheels (one stock and one aftermarket) and the vibration over 73mph has not changed at all. Some have gotten lucky with balance but for most of us it is an out of spec part(s).

i could totally believe that this reduced the issue to acceptable levels. I think that shocks (ranchos) are terrible in this configuration. The shocks do NOTHING to dampen the impacts even the slight undulations felt at highway speed on relatively smooth hwy...

 

and the Tires? the wranglers just compound the problem, even the LS2 Eagles are better than these. but then again, is it our fault for buying trucks with off road suspension and tires and complaining about the ride quality at 75mph? lol idk...

 

if it is the pinion causing these issues? by all means, but if it was just the tire/shock combo? i would think they would have fixed it by 16... and mine feels unsettled. lowering the tire pressure did nothing to stop or quell it in anyway.. i will have it on the hwy in couple weeks for 300 mile trip. fingers crossed it's repaired with just the front tire being road force balanced!!

 

 

This week will tell, I'll be driving to and from work 70 miles one way on several different pavement types will see how this combo (tires and shocks) plays out. Yeah never really expected this truck to drive like a car and probably my fault for not paying more attention when buying it. Should have known that a used 2014 with 6k on it sitting on the lot had problems. I will let everyone know how is goes after a few days of break-in.

There is an interesting post on the SUV threads that someone put "lightweight" 20" wheels to replace to OE 22" on an Escalade, and the buffeting all but is gone. Implication is that the lighter wheels somehow made a difference.

 

Anyone have any feedback? I know some of you have put on different tires, and some different wheels. Anyone pay attention the the weight of the wheel/tire assemblies and care to "weigh" in (pun intended!).

Not sure if I had mentioned this in my post, but my vibrations started well before I switched to 10 ply tires. I was running stock tires with no modifications to my truck at the time.

 

Regarding the number of people affected, the GM service managers I've talked to have seen multiple trucks with these problems, even at smaller dealerships.

I live a very small town, have known my dealer all my life, grew up together, police visited together :happysad:, I think you get it. At one time of the 15 new trucks on his lot, 7 had the vibration. Crusty old farmers aren't on this site, they visit the dealer. Like the one I ran into Thursday when I was making an appointment for my replacement trucks first vibration appointment. The only lack of data is from GM, they don't have a clue how to fix this because it has been going on for 3 years. Or if they do it is because of the cost to fix it. If this isn't a big problem why isn't GM just buying back a handful of trucks and moving on? Trucks and the big SUV's is where they make their money, they should have stopped production when this started and figured it out then. The cost of doing that would have been small compared to what it is going to cost in lost customers, customers lost for LIFE. If you don't have the vib, good for you, but you have no idea how mad this makes those of us that have it. You absolutely hate driving it. I have a 0% loan I guess at this point I'll put up with it for a year and wait for the 2016 Ford's to have a 0% deal and take the hit. I and the rest of the vibrators want a GM that doesn't vibrate. I really don't think that's too much to ask, and honestly that's the only thing I want.

mark your tire and rims for slippage . This would cause out of balance and then vibs.

OK, For starters, Why should anyone get into an argument over this? If your truck is running fine then why bother even posting anything but "My truck is running fine"? We are all just trying to get to the bottom of the problem.

 

Another thing is if so many guys have been getting the balancing done and saying it does not do anything why would you even let them do it again?

 

Some have stated on here about even getting new rims and tires and other parts changed from the dealer and that still did not help.

 

Should GM come out of hiding and at least say they have a problem even though they don't have a clue what is wrong? YES THEY SHOULD........

 

I have the problem and I know there are a lot of others out there that have the problem. It does not matter if even just one or two people have this problem if it was you, you would want it fixed period...

 

Just trying to keep things civilized on this post, we have enough problems complaining about GM so we don't have to keep complaining about each other.

I believe this will translate to the trucks. Some of us have suspected this.

Seen that article and FOX news cast the other day. The thing is they don't mention the trucks so I emailed them and told them what was going on. We have to start sending news outlets emails or phone calls letting them know about our problem to get it out there so GM will take notice.
