From reading the letter, it seems that they have all the documentation they need, and it will go forward to arbitration. It should have included the BBB brochure on how the process works.

Been following this thread, as I also have the dreaded highway vibration. It's back to the dealer for the 2nd time, and they are replacing a tire, after the first time they only did the road force balance.

 

What I don't understand is that there doesn't seem to be much consistency to the cause of the problem other than it occurs at 40 +/- mph and 75 +/-.

 

It happens in 2wd trucks, 4wd trucks, crew cab, double cab, Denali's, along with mine which is a "Max Tow" equipped truck, so it has different leaf springs and rear end.

 

Seems like many of the issues have been fixed with tires, with some fixed with driveshaft and/or rear ends. My question is, why are these truck SO sensitive to tires??? I've talked to one service manager that has gone through 3 or 4 sets of tires to get rid of the shake on a truck. That's ridiculous... I've also talked to a tech that works at a local dealer that's seen several come though and he said GM doesn't have a solid fix...

 

BTW, I came out of a 2012 Ford Eco-Boost with 100k miles, on it's 2nd set of tires and never had a vibration like this in my brand new truck. I truly think it's in more trucks than being reported, unless you came out of a later model and know how they should ride, you might think "it's just how a truck rides"...

the problem is in the frame,. It is a new design and intensifies and carries vibrations. You can feel a bad front tire in the seat of your pants instead of the steering wheel. I am a GM dealer employee and my truck has the same problem. PArt of the other problem is GM pays 2hours to the tech to diagnose and repair the problem, so most techs just give up after a hour or two working on the truck because they don't want to work on it and not get paid. The tech that worked on my truck clocked just over 12 hours and with ohl got paid 5. Needless to say he wont be spending this kind of time on another one. My problem is about 70% fixed and now just wondering what will happen when I put my studded snows on for the winter??

I had the same issue. I was absolutely confident I had an out of balance rear tire, highway speed vibration in the seat. The balance showed a front tire was way out.

The electronic steering smooth road compensation software can compensate for an out of balance condition up to a point. Don't forget, it will compensate but it is still there.... so where does the vibration go... up and down the frame of your vehicle like a tuning fork.

 

They balanced the tires and it came back within 3 weeks.

 

Tired of balancing tires all the time.

Agreed. This is why I feel the problem is deeper than just tires. These trucks should not be that sensitive to tires. Very frustrating.

So I got an email from GMC after my visit to the dealership to take their survey, just a bunch of check boxes, but at the very end they had a nice fill in the blank section which must not have a character limit because I wrote them a nice a little story about my dissatisfaction and the dissatisfaction of many others. Filled it out about a week or so ago and got a phone call today from GM. GM Rep: "This is blah blah blah from GM and I read your survey response, I understand your frustration and I;m just calling to let you know that we are fully aware that many of these trucks have vibration issues at and above 70 mph's. We would like to assure you that our engineers are working on and are very near a fix for this issue, we are asking you to please be patient a little longer as a fix should be forth coming."

 

Me: "This has been going on since 2013 how much longer is it going to take to fix this issue?"

 

GM Rep: " I don't know"

 

Me: "Whats causing the problem?"

 

GM Rep: " I don't know"

 

Me: "Are they trying to figure out a way to hide the problem because they can't fix it?"

 

GM Rep: " I don't know, but we are expecting a fix to be released soon and anyone experiencing the issue will be able to go to a dealer and have it repaired."

 

She then offered full use of GM's beach house in Wyoming, and told me that the 2016 sierra will be powered by a cold fusion reactor because they are really close but don't quite have the perpetual motion machine dialed in, maybe the 2018 redesign.

LMFAO.... so far I haven't heard anything from the General Manager at my dealership who was going to start working on getting my truck fixed personally.... Times ticking away before I file lemon law, they have until either November or December 2nd.... haven't decided.... obviously this is assuming the truck isn't fixed

Just checking in here from NH.

 

My 14 6.2 All Terrain has its 3rd appointment coming up shortly for the dealership to attempt to fix the vibration. Thus far the only thing they have been able to do is adjust at which speed the vibration occurs. After seeing all the luck folks in this thread have had getting the issue resolved; I'm not holding my breath.

I test drove 12 or 13 of these trucks (Sierra and Silverado). 10 of them vibrated pretty bad. 2 I couldn't really notice it.

 

The 2015 I finally settled on after BBB'ing my 2014, I also couldn't notice it. Guess what. It ended up being a vibrator, and has been in the shop twice now. They're replaced 2 tires, and the rear axle assembly.

 

DON'T KID YOURSELF. Test drive more or move on to another brand. You DO NOT want to get involved in this.

We are 2500 miles into our new GMC Sierra SLT CC coming from a Chevy Silverado LT DC Rally 2 and we already had them look at the slight vibration it developed. Got the truck back yesterday - worse than before. Looks like we're starting this process all over again. We did not buy on employee discount so I think we will push for a complete buy back and switch brands. Absolutely in love with this truck but with a new baby due in 3 months I can't keep dealing with this.

ughhh sorry it didn't work for you. Luckily I have the 3 attempts I need, but I'm giving them another 2 - 3 months solely because my dealerships General Manager is now fighting for me. If it works, and they get a fix, great. if not I'm going to file... but I'm really really nervous about a '16. I just feel like they are only going to try to hide the vibration, and not fix the actual problem... If I could do it over and get a different brand,I think I definitely would.

For those of you who have been through arbitration I just got this letter back from the BBB. Im not sure if it means my case is going to arbitration or if its still pending. Anyone know what to expect?

They send this as a formality, and include a pamphlet with info that prepares you and lets you know what to expect. Likely you will have to do nothing from this point on, except wait for a phone call from GM Business Resource center informing you that they basically give up, and will offer you what you asked for...I assume MSRP to MSRP trade.

 

They will likely call 1-2 days before your arbitration date...so don't take off work or cancel anything important.

Anyone been to the dealer this week, any earth shattering news?

 

I am scheduling Road Force balance at the shop I bought the tires at Monday.

 

It is getting colder out and it feels like the vibrations are getting worse.

 

I may be ready for the PICO meter soon.

Ok so I just got my truck back after the 9th repair attempt and my vib is 80% cured. It's night and day from before I dropped it off. I'm noticing all sorts of differences the more I drive it.

According to the dealershop my pinion angle was at .3 ( assuming this is degrees?). They installed a leaf spring shim kit part #23469809 and a new driveshaft which corrected my pinion angle to 2.3 (again degrees???).

 

Still have the whine when I let off the gas which is probably the pinion bearing from the angle being off. Vibe has also moved from 75+ to between 40-55 mph.

 

I will say the shim kit for the leaf springs just about got rid of any clunking going on.

 

Going to consult with an attorney to see if we can sue.

What were your vibration symptoms before the above correction? Speed? Where did you feel it? Did it feel like a tire out of balance?
