so from what I get out of this, they know how to fix it, they just don't want to

I think the real issue is GM along with consumers are giving some of these technicians too much credit. I was speaking with a ASE certified technician about the issue and could tell instantly that he did not have the knowledge or experience to go beyond blaming the tires. Being ASE certified as well I know for a fact that there are many techs out there that just studied the testing guides and passed the certification test. I honestly believe very few technicians out there will actually know how to diagnose and repair the more serious issues that cause vibrations and drive line phasing problems. Its just easier for them to save face and say "Normal Condition" "Its a truck" "No issues found".

Well then GM owes me a set of Dueler A/Ts and they can take back these flawed SRAs. They definitely are not all terrain tires, and surely not an upgrade either. Right now I feel I have been ripped off for $200.

 

Can anyone else chime in if you ordered or have a truck with the $200 all-terrain tire option (code RC7)?

My truck's window sticker lists all terrain tires and it came with the Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts. I swapped em out for larger Toyo Open Country A/T II's though. But in any case I think you should have gotten the Bridgestones and not the GY's. I'd go talk to the dealership.

whether that's true or not isn't really our problem, we all want our trucks fixed. I believe at this point we can technically all take our trucks to our own repair shops and have the work done, and just send GM the bill, but i can obviously see issues with that as well

Headed to the dealer as we speak for my vibe issue. This ought to be interesting. Gonna fill it up and reset the trip before I go in. Also note what the mileage is before I leave to see how much effort they will actually put into it

How tall is that ? They list all of their 4x4's as 78.5 inches tall. Just curious how accurate that is. My garage opening is only 77 inches, the Silverado's and Tundras fit. I don't think the Ford or Dodge would.

I'm sorry not sure but it does fit in my garage but I have a taller door I believe .

When I get home tonight I can measure my truck if you like .

I know it does sit high stock though because I need to grab the oh shit handles every time I get in and out to avoid sliding on the side edge of the seat and avoiding a little free fall of airtime lol . I'm only 5'6" though and see some iron cross HD steps in my near future .

I have the goodyears on my truck too and they charged me $350! Must be more for those fancy white letters that no one likes!

To a point, if the dealer wants to keep his franchise agreement they have to play by

GM rules...period !

 

On the flip side sadly, to many ' Tech's ' today are nothing more then parts replacers.

 

IMO, There is a combonation of issues going on here, frame, driveline, wheels & tires

until it's isolated it will only compound the dis-satified customers that there seem to be

more of everyday. It was not until I pointed out the safety concern that GM took me serious

and this was after I drove the truck with the service manager and once the vibration started

@ 75mph I started switching lanes back and forth and you could actually feel the back tires

loose contact as the vibration became a feeling like it was riding on blocks.

 

This was all under 500 miles and the fourth time in for what they deemed " Normal Opperation "

I respectfully asked the service manager that if this was not a concern that I'd be more then

happy to take ANY GM Engineer for the same ride...of course this would never come to pass

and they wrote the check and sold it to someone else.

Truck goes in for it's first service this week, I'm going to talk to the service manager about my vibration issues and the vibration data I have already gathered. we shall see if I get the "I've never heard of this before" or drove the truck and didn't feel anything, operating normal. I pulled all the aftermarket suspension parts off and reinstalled all factory components and factory wheels and tires, vibration is still there at the exact same frequency. I even put the truck and jack stands to eliminate the road surface and ran it at 70 mph, and guess what... vibration at the same frequency all though the amplitude was less severe. Not sure if anyone else has tried it but when you run the truck with the wheels off the ground the computer freaks out, turns off stabilitrak and traction control and every other feature, disables the steering assist and flashes calibration mode and says you need to service this, that and the other even disables the lane control, parking assist and trailer brake controller, everything went back to normal after driving it a few hundred feet. I'm convinced its a rear end issue in my case, hopefully I can convince them to bypass the multiple sets of tires and countless rf balances and go strait to the rear end. If they don't have a pico I might try another dealership or just take it straight to a local rear end shop and pay them to open it up inspect it and let me know what they find.

I have a 2015i 3500 4x4 srw Duramax, been vibrating since I brought up to speed with 148 miles on clock. Mine was a multifaceted problem that was a combination of the Good Year crap tires and a bent rim. After replacing rim and installing a set of Nitto Dura Graplers at my cost, the heavy shaking was removed only to discover the "rumble strip" driveline viberation. This has been noticed since around 5000 miles, now at 31,000 on the odometer. I have been to dealership 4 times only to hear "can't duplicate" , "normal operation". The vibe begins around 67mph and continues up to it phases out around 75 mph. Well everyone else that rides with me can feel it. I use a old school truck alignment shop that still strobe balances the front tires(spin up tires approx 80mph on truck). During the last 2 visits, the very experienced tech felt the vibration coming from passenger side front axle. Upon placing stethoscope on housing extension he felt the needle bearings that support axle shaft in housing is the culprit. Back to the dealer with the news, and they are refusing to address. They don't have a strobe balance machine to replicate, and won't send someone over to the independent shop to observe. And to top it off, found the dreaded rear main seal leak on the Duramax. I am sick, $54,000.00 investment, this is deplorable.

You should seriously initiate a case with customer care about this, and immediately have it escalated to a supervisor. I just got done with a chat with TireRack support:

The chat speaks for itself. If GM is going to sell customers an option for "all-terrain" tires, and are giving them cheap standard highway tires, there is something wrong there and customers are getting cheated.

Huh yeah i have the all terrain W.O.L. tires listed on my sticker but have the SRAs...... anyone have info on this?

I'm in a dispute with GM regarding this. Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires are not all-terrain tires. See my chat above with TireRack customer support. You can also search for all terrain tires on their website, and the Goodyear SRAs do not pop up as a choice for all-terrain.

 

JesseD mentioned that previously, trucks were being built with Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S tires, which are in fact actual all-terrain tires. They are also around $20-30 more per tire. A fair upgrade and at least you are getting something extra for your $200.

 

My theory is that GM has had such a cluster-bleep with the Goodyear SRA tires (it is a documented fact that large batches of these tires were produced out of spec, and are impossible to balance), and so many customers have complained, that GM is now throwing these tires on as many trucks as they can, so they can burn through them...and then stick Goodyear with a nice bill for all the defective tires.

 

Either that, or GM simply made a mistake and started building trucks with the all-terrain option, with non all terrain tires.

 

Either way, you should complain if you got SRAs and paid for all-terrain...because you got ripped off.
