Shake or Vibration Issues

Hey guys always loved the GMC styling and interior design, and have considered buying one. I'm

kinda shying away due to this steering shake / vibration issue. When there's 361 pages of post about

this issue it really concerns me.

 

I've had 2 Toyota Tacoma's a 2012 and 2014 with this type of issue the 2014 was bought back though

lemon law dispute. My current 2015 Jeep GC has a little bit of this so I'm kinda sick of shelling out for

new vehicles and dealing with this type of issues. My goal is to go back to owning a truck since I need

to be able to haul, the only truck that doesn't seem to be dealing with vibrations and steering shake is

2015 Ford F150, but the echo boost seems to require head replacement every 20,000 due to carbon

build up.

 

Any input would be greatly appreciated

you should check the ford forum, they are getting reports of vibration issues now too, Ram had them in the past, but either damped them enough that they aren't felt or fixed them, not entirely sure which. I used to recommend GM, but not any more... heres a little bit of a break down:

 

2014-2015 GMC & Chevy 1500 = radio reception issues, vibration issues (ranges from tires/ rims, differentials, drive shafts, suspension, engine) mind you each is generally different; transmission issues (clunky, and makes the truck lurch forward)

 

GM Canyon & Colorado = vibration issues & radio issues similar to the 1500's

 

2015 F-150 = paint issues on the new aluminum bodies, reports starting about vibration issues, some have indicated cylinder issues

 

Ram [ecodiesel] = cold start issues with diesel gelling, as well as DEF Fluid freezing (truck goes into limp mode (40 MPH max) needs to warm up to thaw fluids, typically in a shop by way of being towed. the trucks require nose guards (grill shields) in winter to keep snow from getting into the turbo and freezing/ keeping water out of the engine

 

Ram [all inc. ecodiesel] = typical paint an body issues, prone to paint peeling and rusting, although in my opinion, they have improved from 2013 onward when FIAT bought them. have heard a few reports of valve issues, typically a pretty good drive line, especially with the Cummins in the 2500's

 

Nissan [new Titan not out yet] = never be the first to buy a new thing lol

 

Toyota Tundra = tried & true drive train, if not dated, worst fuel economy of full size trucks, interior features very limited, 1 usb input..... its a TOYOTA, seats are supposed to be best in class, i can neither confirm nor deny

 

these are just the issues I am aware of for each vehicle, mind you not all vehicles will have them or even the same ones for that matter, its a matter of testing them, finding what you like and don't like, then choosing the lesser of the evils

Make sure you tell the dealer you are aware of the vibration issues in these trucks and request they let you take the truck for the day, Find a nice stretch of smooth freeway and drive the truck in all speed ranges through 80 mph if you can. My vibrations are really light compared to a lot I've seen video of and they're not noticeable and rougher roads because the larger amplitude road imperfections mask them. The only way they're noticeable in mine is smooth asphalt they start at 70 mph the worst at 72 and disappear at 85 mph. I'd also wait on the 2016 models, I suspect there will be some unannounced changes to fix or remedy these issues.

you need to make them put the Pico device on it... with the NEW software that is available... it will tell them exactly what is wrong.. if they don't have a Pico device then don't do business with them....

 

Of course this should not be... but it is what it is....

 

All I can say is it worked for me and I am now a happy customer... But I had exceptional service ....

Okay so I know I've posted a couple "what if" questions that yall have answered but I have a couple more.

 

I said before that the tech would not drive above 70 bc he wasn't comfortable and said he didn't feel any vibes. Well I really notice the vibes at 75+ now that I've been doing some more highway driving. What if I go and tell my service writer that I'll drive the truck to 80 to let them feel the vibrations, but what if he says his tech doesn't feel comfortable at that point? I'm kind of stuck at that point.

 

Also, what if they do ride with me and still say they don't feel it or I get the "operating as designed" speech? What to do at this point? Go to a different dealer? After I go through my two main dealers and I'm still having the issue I may just give up and trade it in

Be careful when you attempt to trade it, I was offered 12,500 less than I should have been, I was expecting 44000-45000 after removing 7k in incentives AND 7k for a full years worth of depreciation even though the truck was less than a month old. I was offered 32000. My MSRP was mid 58000 with all of the options, accessories, and protection package that it has

I'm going to post this every once in a while:

 

I know some people here have been able to get theirs fixed, but from what I'm seeing, GM isn't doing anything for the majority of people. So if anyone wants me to have my attorneys contact them, I have started the ball rolling on a class action lawsuit covering the problems and excess depreciation we are seeing in the trucks due to the issues. Just send me a PM with your Name, email address, and phone number, and I will add you to the list that I send over to them. They currently have hired "experts" to look into all of the issues, and are supposed to have a report back to them in the next couple weeks. As soon as I hear something, I'll let you all know what they say.

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra SLT Crew Cab with the Max towing package with 6.2 and 8 speed. The truck had a vibration upon test drive but I was assured that the issue would be taken care of but that I had to drive the truck for at least 800 miles before they could do anything. I took the truck back to the dealership (2 hours away) and was told that they road forced the tires and found 1 that would not balance to spec so they replaced the one tire. The truck has the 20" Goodyear SRA's. I went to pick up the truck yesterday only to find a scratch on the steering wheel bezel and a chip in the paint on the drivers door edge. They informed me that they would take care of these issues and let me know when it would be ready.

 

The things that I have noticed since buying the truck are a vibration in the steering wheel at around 45-50 at a steady speed then more of a shake at 68-75. The other thing that I have noticed is that the truck wants to pull to the left while I am in the left lane and to the right when I am in the right lane. I understand about the crown in the road but the loaner I am driving does not do this.

 

I have been driving a 2015 GMC Denali with the 5.3 and the same 20" Goodyears and this truck does not have the vibration.

Ok so just got a call for my 1600 mile 2015 cc z71 with the 18" rims and GY SRAs. This is attempt #2 to fix. #1 was road force stock tires saw MAYBE minimal improvement. Now they RF them again after talking to a GM tech line and 3 tires were out of spec replaced and they claim much better, but they said that the last time too. Will find out in the AM when i go grab it.

So...GM and BBB did a conference call with me today. Arbitration is schedule for 8/20. GM offered an MSRP to MSRP trade, obviously I'd have to pay the difference and confidently, my MSRP when I bought the truck 2 years ago has gone up 3k. Hmmm..... I said I'd sleep on it and see what's on the lot at local dealer.

We are exactly there right now, scroll a few pages back and you'll see I posted while we were test driving and visiting two different dealerships. All four Sierras we drove had vibrations, granted two were very minor compared to what we are used to. Now, my husband just stopped someone at Walgreens (yes, we stop people and ask at this point) with a 2015 CC Silverado with 20s. He bought it with 200 miles and it had a slight vibration at 65 MPH, he brought it back and inquired about it and they told him to drive it more there was nothing to right now. As of today he has 900 miles on it and the vibration is gone. So it's up to us to take the chance now. Take one with the slight Vibration and hope it goes away or fight and possibly have to pay usage out of our pocket?

I have a very good feeling dealers/other manufactures are aware of the GM vibration issues and it's effecting the market value so your going to take a bigger hit then normal .

ohh trust me they do, the first thing they asked me when i walked in was what dont I like, the Active Fuel Management, or the Vibration..... hence one of the aspects of my lawsuit... excess depreciation....

Figured they did my dealer I traded it in at didn't say anything directly but they wouldn't even give me a ball park on trade in without driving it and it was like new only being 9 months old with 6000 miles . Mine only had a 20 to 30 mph vibration . But on rough roads fortunately it wasn't noticeable but enough to drive me nuts lol and to take a big loss to get rid of it but well worth it to get my sanity back and some sleep at night .

I hope and wish you much success with your lawsuit as its much deserved .

Figured they did my dealer I traded it in at didn't say anything directly but they wouldn't even give me a ball park on trade in without driving it and it was like new only being 9 months old with 6000 miles . Mine only had a 20 to 30 mph vibration . But on rough roads fortunately it wasn't noticeable but enough to drive me nuts lol and to take a big loss to get rid of it but well worth it to get my sanity back and some sleep at night .

I can't take a 12k hit, If I did, I'd have to increase the size of my current loan, which isn't going to happen. If I could have gotten basically the same truck without the increase I would have done it just to get rid of the thing.
