Too bad GM is not buying back THEIR screwups. I guess they'll wait until the Gubmint orders them too also. Plus we're talking about older Rams vs current GM's. I don't care which company it is. I think they all dropped the ball with all this outsourcing and foreign plants. Everyone must make their own decision based on their own situation. If your vehicle has problems and the manufacturer refuses to do the right thing, then move on. It's not worth the hassle anymore. If you actually find a good truck whatever brand, then keep it and count your blessings. The days of brand loyalty are over because the manufacturers no longer have loyalty to their customers.

So true and you've pretty much nailed it on all accounts !

You are gambling on whether GM will actually issue a recall to fix the issue. Otherwise you could see the resell value plummet once word spreads like wildfire throughout the automotive industry.

I highly doubt they will make a recall unless forced, that would mean admitting that they did something wrong, They won't do it, just like FIAT/Chrysler wouldn't make the replacement parts to fix their issues

Every truck would have a vib then. There are hundreds of thousands that do not or there would be many more of is here. It could even be shitty wheel bearings allowing the wheels to wobble. My dealers been replacing quite a few rear wheel bearings.

I correct myself, its tires, drive shafts, rear ends, AFM, and all of the above and in any combination...

My truck definitely has bad AFM, got the standard "nature of the beast, how the truck is response", I have a feeling that the tires could use a roadforce test & rebalancing/ replacement but they won't do anything because even though they admitted there is vibe, they claim its all drivetrain. so I'm keeping all my options open for potential issues.

It just gets worse and worse dealing with these people haha.....thanks for the heads up!

everything comes down to bottom line, they don't really give a shit about us.

GM doesn't call back and what I was told was that district sales manager has final say on buy back....doesn't make sense.

The motive gear set is for the older 9.5 rear end which has the 14 bolt cover. The k2xx has a 12 bolt cover and uses a different gear set. The AAM gear set is the same ring and pinion that GM uses. The entire rear axle is built by AAM for GM. In order to use the the gear sets for the old 9.5 it requires adapters, new bearings and a diff cover space to clear the differential. This rear end has been out for 2 years now and no aftermarket manufacture has cut gear sets for it. The only gears that fit without adapting are the AAM's which are what are in there to begin with.

So, this is very very interesting. Did some research and found a couple of interesting things:

1. AAM is interestingly ex-GM. When GM went out of the driveline business, they were going to close a bunch of plants. Some ex employees bought 5 of these plants and started AAM.

2. AAM's website has some very interesting info. They talk about their 2 cut gears. I found some information on what that means. Older technology was what they call 5 cut machining process. The new 2 cut process eliminates 3 steps where they cut each gear in one step. So, less steps means less cost. But, supposed to result in more accurate, quieter gears. Backlash setups are different. Now, it wasn't possible to make 2 cut gears years ago, but supposedly modern, precision machine centers have allowed 2 cut process to be done now.

So, makes one wonder. It all sounds good on paper, but like most new, high tech processes....things can go awry. Would not surprise me if AAM have messed up something with this new process, and of course since they are the sole supplier (supposedly), no surprise that many of the replacement attempts ended up with the same vibration. If this is what's going on, GM has a mess on their hands. First, they need to get the problem sorted with AAM. Then, are they actually going to replace all the gear sets in every vehicle? Definitely not. They will only replace the ones they have to. Customers that demand it.

And, this is not a safety issue, so don't expect a recall. TSB at best.

And, the new process requires lapping of the gears. Hmmm. That sounds like a step to get missed or not done properly!

Of course, it would be interesting to know when the industry in general went to 2 cut gearing. And, is the 2014 pickups/2015 SUVs the first generation that GM went to 2 cut gears? Interesting.

Well, removed my Range AFM disabler and guess what? The vibration was ridculous! I'm gonna try and get a video of it today to show my dealer. Gonna do the "water bottle test". I also get a vibration with it in v8 mode around 73+ mph. Steering wheel shake (up and down), passenger seat back shakes, you can feel it in the seat. Crazy. Love the truck but damn not sure if I can live with it.

Anyone know if the 2500's also get a vibration?

Posted last week that I've started to notice the vibration more and more. My buddy even mentioned something while rolling down the highway this weekend without me saying anything. Now I gotta make time to go take a tech on a test drive.

Is it bad that I've already started looking at replacement trucks for this thing? Lol

Well folks, I did it. After all the failed attempts at the Chevy dealer I traded it in for a 2015 Ram 1500 Larame. I have to agree with the other folks on here that have done the same thing, it was the best decision I made and I am very happy. I will admit, it's disappointing though, this is my first non-GM car in close to 20 years. They really screwed the pooch on this one and lost a long time customer. Too bad they really don't care. Well, I am off to a nice, smooth vibrationless drive to the camp ground. I wish you all the best of luck and will remain subscribed to the thread. I am interested in the outcome.
