Hey all...new to the forum and wanted to post my situation. I have a '14 Silverado Rally with around 8k miles on it. I have an annoying vibration from 70-80mph which you can feel in the seat and see the center console shake like crazy. I recently took it to the dealer and was told the techs cannot drive the car faster than 55mph which doesnt help me. They drove it anyway and claim they felt the vibration, they load balanced the tires saying 3 of them were off 1 oz. I received the call that it was ready for pickup and the vibration seemed to be "better".....again they didnt sound too confident. Needless to say its still there and re-balancing the tires did nothing. Im going to take it in again but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how I can force them to drive it on the highway at the speeds where the vibration actually occurs.....I dont want to hear the 55mph BS excuse again. Im really bummed as this is the first new truck I have ever owned, Ive been buying used all my life. I traded in a 2002 silverado with 200k miles that drove smoother.

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Is it a rally 2 or rally 1?

Rally 2, 22" wheels

They'll never fix it ? sorry!!!! Ours is a 14' rally 2 with 20,000 miles now (been dealing with it since 9,000 miles) and they done everything. Changed 4 tires, road forced, rebuilt differential, replaced rear shaft, changed two more tires. We've begun the BBB process for them to take it back. We've also stopped two other rally 2 owners on the road and they have the same exact issues. Sucks because we LOVE this package and this truck. But there's no way we'll take our chance on another one. You can look a few pages back and see the videos I've posted of our vibes. Have you felt it since the beginning or did you get your tires rotated?

That's a bummer to hear! I really love the truck and get a lot of compliments on it but there is no way Im going to just "deal" with this vibration especially for the price I paid. I started to notice it right after the first tire rotation around 6k miles....strange you mention that. Is that when you noticed yours? Ill take a look at the video.

well long time reader first time post...

2014, CC GMC SLT, 6.2L 3.73s, standard box, 20" chrome wheels

Great truck up to the dreded 75. Bought it in November when they were having their blowout pricing.

We left for FL in Dec. ended up getting 3 new tires in Venice FL, that sorta helped.. then when I got back to MN they took another look at it.. and ended up putting in a new rearend... excessive runout . It was actually smooth for about 3000 miles. Then it started again on our way to Yellowstone.. and it hasn't quit, so it is back.

Dealer has been beyond reproach... the best experince ever. Not their fault. Hopefully they fix it then I can update what was the actuall fix.

My thought now is even though they rebuilt the rearend (had to order all seperate parts) because GM wasn't shipping that rearend anymore and it fixed it for a while, could it be that it is back out of allignment or possibly bad gears? don't know but hope they figure it out... they are putting on the vibrating machine this week.

My wife is chiding me that I am getting a 2015 truck one part at a time... as I have also had the following done to it:

new door handles both pass and driver, 2 new rear view mirrors, new headliner, microphone, seat fix, hood fix, 6 new lugnuts, 3 new tires, 1 new rearend... proabably been in the shop for over 2 months.. but i get a loaner so no worries there...

Up to 70MPH this thing rides like a dream, goes like a bat out of h311, and tows my toys like it should...

Off topic, but why two new rear view mirrors? I noticed mine will drop if the music is bumpn, but I have two 12" subs in my 02 and the mirror shakes but remains where it should. The 14 is currently in the shop so maybe I should have them address that

OK, I owe everyone my latest experience.

Before July 4th, the dealership replaced 2 rears because of bad vibes in the seat at 70 - 75mph. On July 4th, we took a 2 hour trip down to WVA, road great. On July 8th, during the return trip, the vibes started at 70 - 85 felt in the seats.

I returned to the dealer a week later and asked to be analyzed with a vibe meter, instead service manager (best friend) drove said they all did that. He drives Silverados as a work truck and switches out about every 2 months with newer inventory. He specifically mentioned that there is no fix or TSB from GM although he can feel the vibration. He did state that every Silverado that he has driven through 2014 and 2015 has that feel.

Returned to the dealership a week later where I spoke to warranty relations about next steps, mentioned that my window sticker did not state "may vibrate at highway speeds". I asked again for the vibe analysis. I was then asked to meet with the owner of the dealership. We went for a long ride where the truck showed vibration at highway speed. He does not know an answer but he has seen this issue on other Silverados. He has swapped tires for a softer tire with good results on other Silverados. He was not a fan of Goodyears.

Anyhow, he suggested we have a third party road force balance the tires and I agreed.

Here is where it gets interesting. Both the owner and I agreed the vibration was in the seat leading us to believe the rears were out of balance. On the road force, one front tire was out 2 ounces.

My theory:

the smooth road shake compensation software running the electronic power steering module will compensate for a certain amount of out of balance for the front tires. But you still have a tire severely out of balance. The stiffer frames resonated the vibes from front to back, masked the front vibes but continued to vibrate the seats.

With the all tires successfully balanced any vibration I have was minimal and most likely road related. It rides now better than it has in several months although I still feel the ride is harsher than it should be, I am guessing shocks. Like someone said many posts ago, I would feel a penny if I ran over it.

So last night, I added 250 pounds of ballast over the rear axle.

It rides even better now and I am happy for now.

the mirror would fall down when it was hot and it was really lose so it was great if i wanted to see my chin... then they put in a new one and it had a dimple (the backing was cracked) so they had to replace that one too... not the highest QA I have seen... I laugh because it is all I can do... 05 GMC 2500 never took it to the dealer for anything diesel, 2010 Ford F250 diesel took it in for about 5 or six things... then well this one...

I think you might be on to something... but in my case they rotated the tires without balanceing them from the rear to the front so being a normal logical person I would tend to believe that the vibe would follow the tires... but this is interesting... I would love for them to change out the tires for Michelins... that seems to be hit or miss too. Also someone posted that they should be checking for tire spin onthe wheel which would of course change the balance... oh well... I hope the figure it out... but this is good to know

so I've been doing some more "testing" with my truck, one of the things I have notice a little more evidently is that the constant light vibration that I get radiating throughout the cab is present at idle too, so it is directly linked to the engine which when i opened the hood, you can see every component vibrating like a B*tch. This vibration is radiating throughout the entire cab, felt in the steering wheel, accelerator, brakes, seats, through the floor, etc.(I have the 4.3 V6) I don't recall this being the case on the 5.3's so I'm guessing that they developed a new mounting bracket which sucks and doesn't have any vibration damping (possibly also compounded by it being a lighter engine).

I have tried driving in "M5" this week, and it has eliminated the vibration from the AFM system, however it has absolutely killed my fuel economy, I was getting 18-19 average, I'm not getting 13.8-14.6 avg, not even close to the EPA city. I should not have to drive my truck in this mode to get rid of vibrations/ shaking.

I still want my wheels rebalanced/ roadforced, but GM refuses to do it, so I am still keeping a differential vibe as an option

The "smooth road shake" in the steering wheel when taking curves on the highway is still there, still no resolution

UPDATE ON CLASS ACTION:

I called the firm again on Monday, if I don't hear anything by this afternoon, I am going to call and ask to speak to someone else. If nothing come from them by Friday, I'm calling a different firm.

ohh and the radio still doesn't work
