4x4, I hope the Michelin LTs fix your vibe. My dealer put on a set of Michelins under warranty trying to fix the vibe. All they did for mine was make the ride cushier. Still vibrated. When I took it back and told them that it wasnt fixed and left it there for further repair, they took back the new tires and put MY factory tires, that they had SAVED, back on my truck. They also scratched and scarred my factory 20" polished wheels while doing all this. Idiotic cheapskate incompetent boobs.

Mike, Do you know if the Michelins you had were LT or P rated? I noticed alot of tires being replaced were p rated tires being replaced with other low quality P rated tires and i think that might be the issue. I believe LT tires belong on a full size truck. Ive had them on every full size truck ive had weather its a half ton, my Tahoe, or a 1 ton.

I've been having vibration issues with my 2014, Z-71, 4X4, Crew, 18in Wheels, Goodyears & 3:73 gears. The dealership had to replace 2 Goodyears because they couldn't be road forced. My truck currently has 22,000 miles in one year and the vibration starts at 45-70mph.. I'm sick of this vibration... wish i bought the Ram 1500.. the dealership has my truck and I'm in a loaner till its fixed...

Do you think this could be because of the fact they are overall better tires with less roadforce than the stock goodyears, or do you think it is because of the construction of the LT tires? Just curious as I put Toyo Open Country P-rated tires on and they ride great on very smooth roads all the way up to 85mph, but when I am on other (not so great) asphalt roads it shimmys pretty good so maybe LT tires are the way to go for me.

 

I know it will be a tad stiffer ride with the LT on cracks and bumps etc, but do you overall feel less road imperfections? I am curious since these frames are so stiff, if the P-rated tires are actually absorbing the bumps but reverberating and sending some kind of frequency through the truck whereas the LT just absorbs them.

 

For me I know the truck is fine (tires and mechanically) since it is extremely smooth on certain roads but other roads seem to drive it nuts.

 

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Best ride I experienced was the p rated Michelin's, they are in my garage with about 5,000 miles on them, dealer swapped the bad years out for them. Truck rode perfect, and quiet, then the vibe came back. The nittos I have now (lt305/55/20) are a bit stiffer, but no vibe. As much as I drive, I prefer the stiffer ride with no vibe, and a little road noise (with the radio off). Make sense?

the LT means they are "light truck" tires so they are designed to carry more weight and be better for rough road conditions where the "P" means they are for "passenger car" tires and can be softer since they don't have to carry as much weight or stand up to rough or off road conditions.

 

"P" rated tires "should" give a smoother, quieter, ride and have a slightly different tread pattern but they will also not give as good traction in mud or off road surfaces, beyond that there isn't much differences that the average person would notice or care about.

 

if you don't haul heavy loads or leave the paved road (not really use your truck as a truck is normally used), then there is no reason not to use passenger car tires and they can often be cheaper price then "lite truck" or "LT" tires

Lately I have been experiencing a vibration/shudder when slowly moving forward at a red light or in traffic. When I inch along with no throttle and using the brake there is a vibration or shutter. This happens in the 0-5 MPH range. NO CEL. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm afraid that the response from the dealership is going to be a generic "Sorry cannot duplicate your concern". Could a bad coil or misfire be causing this? Maybe a bad internal transmission pump? This truck is a headache. DC Sierra all terrain v6 4x4

Maybe rear end backlash not the same all the way around the ring gear

The ride quality problems in the 2014 GM trucks goes far beyond just simple tires, or balancing issues. It's not directly related to rear ends only, or trans issues either. Last summer I was working hard to chase and get repairs for my 14 Silverado and after having everything swapped out by the dealers and engineers...my truck was deemed "normal". I dumped that lemon and drive a different brand of truck now and am happy again. In my opinion, it's an overall lack of quality control. The tires arent the best (most have GY SRA tires), almost everyone's drive shaft is out of spec...you can comfirm by lifting the rear end and letting it spin in gear with a strobe light (they swapped two shafts out of mine and I felt varying degrees of small improvement. Trans are out, pumps arent sufficient, rear end quality issues, fron suspension too small for the truck, aluminum steering components, hub assemblies adding to a wobble at high speed, mine even felt different and changes vibratory characteristics on windy days, with the tailgate down, or when following too close to a large truck on the highway. Air turbulence plays a role in ride quality...just sit in the bed of a truck while it's goijg down the highway and you'll feel all sorts of forces. If the aerodynamic issues were properly addressed in a wind tunnel during design, and quality control was much better on all drive line parts, these trucks wouldn't have the vibration issues they do. To date, NOBODY has had their truck fixed. Not one. Soe have trucks that drive better after rear end swaps, or new drive shafts, etc but they are not fixed. I lived this for almost a year...those trucks just vibrate and for those who say theirs dont just arent feeling it. I've driven two that were supposedly "smooth as glass" and left the tell tale harmonic "woom, woom" at 70 plus, and the overall shake from 60 up. As for tires, my new truck of a different brand has Good Year SRA tires, P rated, and I get a very good highway ride from them. This thread is a year and 5 months old....there is no magic fix. I suggest you decide if you can live with the ride quaility, or trade out to something else. Take it from someone who spent 8 months trying everything with no resolve whatsoever. Maybe the 2016's will be improved...but I doubt it unfortunately.

Your CEL would come on if it was a misfire problem. Most likely something associated with rough AFM activation/deactivation, lousy driveshaft yoke tolerances, and sloppily assembled rear end. A combination of all three may well cause shudder as you describe.

It's a real shame that it has come to this. I remember test driving a new left over 2009 Silverado 1500 extended cab work truck in 2010. It was just a basic 2WD truck with 4.3 liter V6 (non-AFM at that time), 4 speed automatic, A/C, AM-FM/CD radio, cloth seats, and cruise control. The truck rode smooth as butter at all speeds. I took it for a long test drive on I-95 (about 18 miles), drove it at all speeds up to 85 MPH. No vibration whatsoever, no low speed shudder, no clunking. The only annoying part was that the truck came with the 3.23 rear end gear ratio, which caused the transmission to downshift on every small grade, like an overpass. But the shifts were butter smooth too, and swapping the gears for 3.73's would definitely fix the frequent downshift issue. Now comes the best part. With my $ 2,600 GM card rebate and all incentives I could have bought this truck for $ 12,600 plus tax and title. And chances are this truck, if well maintained would run good for 300k miles or more. Try that today with any full size new truck from GM. The point is, this was a well made truck compared to what you get today from GM for twice the money. At some point GM apparently decided that quality did not matter anymore as long as they could make the truck more car like, with a lot of cheap insulation under carpeting and plenty of cheap gadgets to give an illusion of opulence and quality. And the astronomical sticker prices on these trucks now reflect the quality that isn't.

brandonbvr, I had a misfire with my 2014 Silverado. CEL came on, Traction Control light came on and both stayed on till it was fixed. A coil had an internal short. Believe me, you will know if its a misfire. Runs like chit, no power, engine shakes BAD.

 

pm 26, I hear ya, I bought my 2012 Silverado EC without even test driving it. Ran great, smooth as butter as fast as I wanted to go. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. Been kicking myself ever since I traded it for this 2014 CC POS.
