Shake or Vibration Issues

Service tech told me today that during their gm service meet a few days ago that the vibration was a major topic if discussion. Gm said there could be around 15 different resolutions. So far, no common thread that points to the smoking gun. They are aware of the issue.

I have a 14 crew cab all terrain with 22's, I have a mild vibration for me it seems to be mostly when it shifts to v4 mode. I was really happy with the truck until I started having a few issues with it.

Mild vibration, rattle in overhead console (dealer tried to fix), front parking sensors keep going crazy, dash makes a cracking sound when truck is warming up, and the transmission shifts terribly. This is the first new vehicle I've ever bought. Paying $47,000 for a vehicle I was hoping to not have issues. Wish I would have looked into some more trucks before I bought mine.

I have a GMC 2014 1500, That shakes bad at 45-55mph. Then again at 65-70mpg. GM has looked at this truck 3 times. GM states this is normal for a Z71. Customer Service refuses to do anything for me on this truck. GM states "Vehicle Operating to Factory Specification". With 245 pages of this same issue from other GM customers. How is it Operating at Factory Specification? I have owned GM's for over 57 years and now they have turned their back on another life long customer, Who is looking to purchase another Brand after all these years. THANKS! GM/Customer Service for nothing.

 

Sounds like what Im dealing with. Some people are lucky when they have a problem and have a dealership service manager on their side to help smooth the way with GM.

 

I dont. My selling dealer service manager is an "Operating As Designed" type, and GM customer service (oxymoron) has been ZERO help, so Ive been fighting my way through all this on my own, starting with BBB Autoline and eventually with an attorney. Sometimes you gotta MAKE a company do the right thing.

Got my truck back from the Official Final Repair Attempt.

 

New rear shocks, and they took off the new Michelins and put 2 of my factory GY tires (the ones that actually came on my truck from the factory) back on with 2 new GYs. Still vibrates.

 

Moving on to finish the BBB Autoline arbitration, then Lemon Law.

I guess this is good news in the sense that they're aware of it and as much as it sucks, I'd rather they not know what the solution is than to know what it is and screw the customers because they simply don't want to pay for it. Hopefully they figure it out....

Got the rear axle assembly swapped out on my truck, this did fix the steering wheel vibration (it was very noticeable) around 50mph, and I feel like it toned down the gas pedal pulsing vibration I feel at 68-70, and also 75mph, but the gas pedal definitely still vibrates.

 

Just called service back, my vehicle has been to the shop 3 times now. There have been 2 repair attempts (3 of 4 tires were swapped out due to defective tires, and the entire rear axle assembly was just swapped out).

 

What, if anything, fixed a gas pedal vibration, which pulses....for those that got this issue fixed?

I will add though I can feel almost everything in the gas pedal or the brake pedal for that matter. For instance, a car in front of me with loud exhaust will cause vibrations in the gas pedal. If I have my windshield wipers on, every time they reach their limits of range and switch wiping directions, I feel it in the gas or brake pedal. A guy's Harley was causing vibrations in my gas pedal once as he passed by. These trucks just have zero ability to absorb any type of vibration from sound or road conditions when they're unloaded.

Yes but for me, not only could I feel the gas pedal vibrate, but I could hear it coming from under the truck as well. Also I feel it was severe enough to slightly decelerate the vehicle when I was in the sweet spot and the vibration was at its worst.

 

It is like going over rumble strips. Its a perfect pulse that repeats at a 1s frequency...meaning its on for a second, off for a second, and repeats as long as I am in a certain speed range.

 

Replacing the entire rear axle assembly fixed my severe steering wheel vibrations I would get at 50mph, but didn't fix this gas pedal pulsing vibration problem. I feel like it fixed or masked it a little bit, but it is still there.

 

I also found they threw a wheel balancing weight on my right front wheel...isn't the dealer supposed to tell you everything that is done to your vehicle...? This wasn't on my service report and nobody notified me of this.

I too started having vibration issues, and my truck has been in the shop for a week while the dealership waiting on a diagnostic tool.

 

I just got off the phone with GM's Customer Action Team, and she acknowledged to me that the Silverado is having a couple different vibration issues. She mentioned the two fixes that she has heard that are working are to switch to 18" wheels and to "have the entire drive train replaced". When I asked her what does that mean? She said I'm not a mechanic.

 

On my silverado the vibration is not a speed issue, it's an engine RPM issue as I can replicate the vibration at 30 mph and 60 mph. And like other postings have mentioned when the vibration is at its worst, the engine has a drop in power and feel like it is being held back (or that the cylinders aren't firing at the right time). It is very strange.

I hadn't heard that....that's good to know.

 

I have the gas pedal vibration that is a constant buzz in any gear between 1500 and 1750ish RPM's. What is strange though is that as the weather is colder now (20's and 30's) it doesn't vibrate first thing in the a.m. after sitting all night but after about 15-20 minutes of driving it slowly comes back. Summer time the vibe was present any time I drove it even after sitting all night.

I wonder if GM has decreased the quality of all gears used inside differentials on these 2014 trucks. This would be analogous to using cheaper bearings. Which means less accurate machining tolerances and less durability. American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) specifies several classes of gears according to hardness and accuracy of machining. Combine lousy gear quality with lousy assembly practices and you have a real problem.

 

Take a look at the table in the link below to see how tolerances are tightened as the gear class increases in number (5 to 12, 12 being the best)
