A good balancing machine that's calibrated and a tech that knows how to use it properly is key. When my aftermarket tires were installed and balanced the balancer showed they were spot on however after multiple rebalancing due to vibrations it was determined that 2 of the tires were out of round. The original guy that balanced them twice didn't notice they had a hop to them. In my case it was only til I took the truck into GM their tire guy showed me the hop problem, this is after they put a new set of tires and rims on my truck off of a 2015 vehicle. Needless to say I got my two tires warrantied from 1010 tires. It made the truck better but not good enough. I took my aftermarket tires off and went back to stock. I already knew my stock Goodyear tires were crap and vibrated that's why I switched out to aftermarkets in the first place. At this point I knew it was tires again because the dealer proved it to me. My dealer knew that I wasn't happy and offered me 100 per tire towards a new set of winters for the stock rims. I wasn't happy that I had to pay additional money for the new tires but I figured with snow coming it would be better than my aftermarkets and I wanted the shaking and vibrations gone. The dealer assured me that his tire guy would make sure my tires and rims would balance properly and my truck would ride smooth just like he had shown me with the set of tires they put on it earlier from a 2015 vehicle. I agreed and when I got my truck back it was smooth as silk and I am once again happy with my truck. It was a lot of time to get this sorted out but I'm glad I did. To say this was a frustrating experience you're damn right it was. IMO these trucks are built stiffer and lighter than the older generations any imperfections with tires and wheels will be magnified. A slightly off balanced wheel might not be felt in an older heavier truck according to some tire shops. Too make things even more interesting we got a brand new 2015 f250 a month ago at my place of work. I took it for a drive when we first got it with the stock tires. Talk about a rough ride jiggly ride sorry but my chevy rode better even with its worst vibrations. So my work place takes the truck in to get tires swapped out to BF Goodrich AT's for winter and off road use and guess what? Yes the ride was much better but still not anywhere as good as the chevy is now.

Luv Hate Luv relationship with my truck.

I had the 40 - 50 mph vibration in steering wheel and a thudding noise that was really more annoying to my ears and head then the vibration. A new complete rear end differential was the fix. Complete rear end is the axle assemble all they had to do was transfer my brakes and shocks. It took the dealership 1 month to get the new rear end delivered. The part was on back order.

This has been a long project. I complained to the dealership that I purchased the truck from at 1800 miles, rear end was replaced at 4200 miles at a different dealership. About 4 1/2 months.

The story goes like this, after 3 times into the dealer that I bought the truck from. I get a call from service manager, the the truck drives as designed. They would not do anything for me. They got my money and thats all they cared about. Even had phone calls from GM people ,lady named Kristen. Saying the dealership said nothing was wrong, But I can find another dealership to take my truck too. And have them look at truck.

A little back ground on me. I'am a Honda and Acura Technician 32 years and a Master ASE Technician, L1 advanced engine performance and I have a calif smog license. I have been to a lot of classes and schools over the last 20 years.I work for a Independent shop for the last 27 years straight. I also deal directly with the customers too. So I know a little bit about this business. And customer loyalty is how you stay in business.

My truck was fixed 2 weeks ago I just waited to make sure it was fixed before I posted my story. And now I will be dealing with the dealership that sold me my truck and their bullsh^t. Thats another long story. Social media is a powerful tool these days!

My truck symptoms were. Starting around 35 mph you would hear this thudding sound and the steering wheel would start to vibrate the closer you got to 45 mph. 45 mph seems to be the peek point. Once you got to 50 the steering wheel was smooth. If you gassed the truck 0 - 50 mph you would not feel the vibration. When you were getting off the freeway and were slowing down or coasting at about 50 mph you would feel the vibration start and not stop until almost stopped. This truck does not have the 70 mph vibration /shake that a lot of you are talking about. At 2800 miles I did replaced my Goodyear tires with Michilin LTX M/S2 and were R/F balanced. The Michelins made the truck feel a lot better. But did not effect or reduce the 45 mph vibration. That was a disappointment. But I don't like Goodyear tires anyways. Also in manual drive in 3rd ,4th or 5th gear as long as you were at 45 mph the steering wheel would vibrate and the noise was there. Which also eliminated the 4 cylinder mode. You could also feel that when the vibration occurred you could put the truck in neutral and coast and feel the vibration decrease to almost nothing. I could also feel on a slight curve at 45mph that there seem to be a pounding feeling like something was loose.

The vibration seemed to be getting worse the more miles I drove.

After dealing with the GMC dealership that sold me my truck, and getting no help. Then purchasing the Michelin tires I took the truck to the Chevy dealership just up the street from the Gmc dealership they confirmed my complaint but the service writer had to check if they could do my warranty work on GMC trucks. Two days latter the guy who sells us our BG products tells me he was a service writer for a major Chevy dealership in another city. He calls them and confirms they do GMC warranty work. I bring my truck in that next Monday. They had a Electronic Vibration Analyzer. But before they used that they had to go by GM book which ment road force balancing my tires again and some other stuff. The GM rep commented on my new tires. And the service adviser told him I was tired of the vibration hoping the tires would take care of it. Service adviser said that the symptoms i told him helped in pin pointing out the source of the vibration problem. After using the EVA and going threw the GM loops the GM rep came out and took the rear end cover off and confirmed too much play in differential ring and gear. The service writer said they could have shimmed the gears but felt cause the truck was so new he wanted to go with a complete new rear end differential. A month latter and I'am vibration free

After the repairs the truck shifts a lot smoother and no vibration at 45 mph. I just hope it doesn't come back.

Like I said its been a Love hate relationship.

Sounds to me like GM should and could do a better job. How about they start using that EVA tool on all trucks that have a vibration and or shake issue instead of following the book. Might make it easier to diagnose, it seems obvious now that these truck could have tire, rim, driveshaft, axles and whatever else as problems. I'm sure they might be able to pin point each separate issue easier with the EVA tool instead of just throwing parts or multiple balances at these trucks in hopes that it fixes the problem. I'm glad that you're truck is fixed for now and I'm happy with my truck again. I hope that GM takes care of the rest of the people that are having issues with their truck and especially everyone here on this forum. Some of the posts of what people are going thru with their trucks and GM is just mind boggling and quite ridiculous. C'mon GM lets get all the people with vibration and or shaking issues resolved, so people can start liking their trucks again.

Well guys, i have had enough, after recent 2nd driveshaft change, the truck is still vibrating. Now they want to go back end to the second rear end and possible overhaul. I just cant take the clunky transmission, noisy lifter noise from the engine, rough pulse in and out of v8 v4 mode, stearing wheel floor vibrations at highway speeds, metalic ping sound when taking off from a stop, i will stop at that. Went and drove some 2014 f150's today, they dont feel like my chevy but you know what, i dont care anymore. I have had more problems with this chevy than any vehicle in my life and im done with it. Dont have the time or paitence to take it to legal steps nor do i want to. Im prob going to take my loss and get me something that is still made in the good ole USA. What happened to this great country of ours that will allow a company to release a product that causes nothing but headaches to its proud owners. We as customers shouldnt be the ones trying to figure out why our trucks dont run/ride the way they used to, that responsibity should be on GM. At this point I feel like im a problem at my service department, i dont like that feeling at all.

So good luck to you all, i wish you all well, and happy veterans day to all that have served and that are currently serving.

I don't blame you at all man. Good luck with the F-150. If I were you I'd make sure to get the V8 and skip the Ecoboost. A coworker has a 2014 F150 with the V8 and it's a hell of a truck for sure.

That seems to be happening at quite a few service departments. We are the problem not the truck

So time for an update. My truck has a shudder/vibration when taking off from a stop when towing. My dealership has been great but it's still not fixed. They first fixed a loose bolt inside the transmission that had something to do with pump pressure, that didn't fix it. Next the put a 2 degree shim between me axle housing and the leaf springs to correct improper pinion angle, and that didn't work. when the mechanic went to order the part that the GM engineer recommended the part was discontinued so they found another source for the shim. Now they are waiting for the GM engineer to fly out hear and take a look at it. Like I said the dealer has been great about addressing the issue but I am getting tired of hooking up my travel trailer and hauling it in there to road test it each time. When the engineer gets here I am dropping my truck and travel trailer off and not taking it back until the fix the issue or give me a new truck. I talked with the sales manager about a buy back if we don't get it resolved and he said he will help me any way he can. He told me they have 12 vehicles on their lot that GM wont let them sale because of known issues with no fixes to the problem, that's scary! I have contacted GM directly but they haven't really done anything yet but say they will send it up the ladder.

Ive felt like that since the second time I took it in for the vibration. I immediately got the impression from them that I was the problem for continuing to complain. Ive always been polite when addressing anyone concerned with this issue. So, I just continued to be polite, and insistent that something IS wrong with the truck, despite the "operating as designed" diagnosis. As I exhausted the remedies available to me, I escalated my case as needed. First the dealer, then GM cust care, then BBB Autoline, and now an attorney.

The truck is at the dealer for the final repair attempt with the GM engineer. Maybe they can fix it, or maybe they will balance the tires yet AGAIN.

I found a new 2014 Silverado I like at the right price. However, given the unresolved issues with these trucks, I do not want to take the risk of buying it and trading my great running '06 crew cab Z71 with 21k original miles on it. Something is telling me that I might regret it if I do this.

very smart thing to do, wait a few more years to be sure there are at least 2-3 years of unchanged production without any issues to be sure you aren't buying into problems. im sure they will get past all of this but right now they have no idea (or at least act that way) as to what is causing the widespread multiple causes of these vibration issues. add to that the many other things, seemingly fool proof things such as radio reception issues and such that its like trying to hit the lottery to get a trouble free GMC or Chevy truck.

if you have to have a new truck now buy some other brand and come back in a few years when all this is sorted out to take another look at GM trucks.

DO NOT SELL YOUR TRUCK! Holy crap do you have a gem. '07 and on is where GM really started to decline as far as producing a reliable vehicle goes. You have a truck from the "Golden Age" as I like to refer to it. Honestly, do not sell it. Hang on to that truck and see where GM is in 3-4 years and re-evaluate.

I traded my 06 z71 crew with 80k on it for my 14 and sometimes I regret it.. I believe most of the kinks will be worked out by the 2016 MY. I just wish they would do away with the AFM crap... I run my truck in M5 every day because of that.

Yeah I wish they would make AFM an option you can turn on and off. AFM is what killed my 2007 by causing the oil consumption issue. Unfortunately I traded it in before researching enough to find out guys were able to solve the consumption issue by turning the AFM off with a tuner. I wish I still had my 2007 to try that......

Ok so my rear axle assembly arrived today, service dept calls me to let me know, but...the tech that is supposed to install it is hunting. I ask when I can bring the truck in and they tell me probably December, lol. I'm like, no no, you find someone else to fix this because I will not wait that long...
