Truing the tires will only take care of radial runout in the tires but not lateral. But the key would be to start with a good tire from the beginning and the michelin are a great base. Can you post the link on the duramax forum where they talk about truing tires? Thanks!

Yep, my tire shop guy was truing a new set one day and told me one was out of spec on lateral issue, thread not running true. Told me to get it replaced. Discount agreed and replaced the tire.

Have we reached a point to where frame stiffness becomes too stiff? I'm beginning to think the vibration is a product of the tight tolerances.

I used to thinking was pinion angle like my old Titan had.

There could be an aero part to the vibration. Yesterday, while on the highway going around 75mph, I noticed a pretty good vibration with the center console. When I got to my destination, I noticed I had left my tailgate down.

ok I finally got around to uploading my vibration videos.

I did a second one because in the first one, traffic wouldn't allow me to show how the vibration never hanged as I switched lanes

please, everyone with these vibrations needs to do similar videos and file with NTSHA and BBB as well as find a good lemon law lawyer in your state because in 9 out of 10 cases you WILL have to take it all the way and having your own video proof goes a long way to dispute GM claims of it being a "minor" vibration they don't notice. GM is playing hard ball and refusing to do the right thing by customers unless they are forced to.

Mine used to do the exact same vibrating as posted in you're video. I started with the shitty Goodyear LSA tires and had vibration from the get go. Then switched them out to aftermarket 22inch rims with Falken tires. It turns out two of the Falken tires were NFG and replaced under warranty. The problem still persisted and GM wouldn't do anything with the truck cause of the after market rims and tires. I swapped my after markets out and back to the original 18inch rims with brand new hankook winter pike tires and still had vibrations so I took it into GM. They had these new winter tires roadforced balanced and my vibrations were gone. It's now Smooth no matter what speed I travel. I think tires and rims properly balanced are the key. I was about to lose my mind after 4 tire changes but that's what it took to get rid of my vibration problem. If I was to do this again I wish I would have just bought Michelin tires for the original rims and had a good tech that knows what he's doing road force them. It would seem that these new trucks are so stiff that any out of round tire or slight imperfection in balancing is going to cause vibrations IMO. I'm also sure that anything on the truck that is slightly out will cause vibrations as well. I wish everyone here gets their vibration problems fixed or a buy back if it can't be fixed. As for me I have probably spent an additional 3k in tires to get to a set that doesn't cause the truck to vibrate. I will likely sell my after markets and recoup some of my loses. It's a shame to have to go thru this type of experience. On a side note our company just bought a brand new 2015 ford f250 and let me tell you this truck vibrates and rides so much worse than my Chevy has ever even at its worst. I think if I had the choice to buy a new truck again it would come down to the new Dodge eco diesel or Toyota. I really like my Chevy again but it was a pretty frustrating experience. I was ready to park it and burn it at times when it was a vibrator. I truly know how some of you feel on this forum.

I just put a new set of Michelin ltx ms2 on yesterday. My vibrations are pretty much gone. Will give it a week and see if I notice a difference.

I bought the top on the line Michelins for mine after the factory tires had been balanced and rf balanced over and over. I got rid of the flat spotting after the truck was parked overnight but the viration on the highway remained the same. The manager and shop foreman at discount tire both rechecked the tires and roadforce balance and said that those tire and the balance are as good as it comes. My problem was definetly NOT wheels ,tires or balance related. I think it,s pretty common for car companies to cut cornrs on tires but I have moved on from that possibility. The drive shaft was not the source either ( unless they traded bad for bad?). The service dept actually acknowedged the problem and tried to help until a GM sales rep came out and told them and me that everything is normal................... Even told me that he drove one similar to mine before I arrived and it shook worse than mine! REALLY? This was supposed to make a customer feel better? I,m afraid I have no confidence left in gm trucks. And the fact that the majority of people do alright ( OR ARE OBLIVIOUS) is not cause to "try again".

its obvious we need to skip the whole GM process and go straight to a lawyer to lemon law it.

AND MAKE VIDEOS AND POST THEM TO YOUTUBE AND FACEBOOK

only if you call attention to this and people get the word out, then and only then, GM might care enough to treat people better.

the BBB and GM process is just designed to stall for time hoping you give up or just get used to it and they win.

the GM mediator told me her findings were it was flat spot tires which are not a warranty issue so if I wanted to pursue it any further she couldn't help me. she said this while holding service tickets in her hand that their mechanics said this issue was not related to the tires being flat spotted.

im now waiting on the final mediation process where a GM rep to come ride in the truck to witness the complaint and of course he will deny it vibrates and I will have to get a lawyer and take them to court.

they know most people are weak minded and will just give up before going that far with this so they win even if they lose in court because they only have to buy back one out of ten lemons when people give up.

I MAY HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM!

I have been on this thread since the beginning but haven't seen any real solutions. Here is what I know. There is a known problem with oblong axle shafts which react with carrier in the rear end. Fortunately for me my truck only vibrates when towing my quads around on an aluminum trailer. Doesn't vibrate with a heavy trailer or anytime else. I took it in today with trailer and quads. The service manager road with me and said this is awful and said he would be on the phone 1st thing in the morning with gm engineers. I also heard through some friends that there was a recent training for mechanics dealing with this exact problem. My dealer didn't know any thing about it. The vibration that I am getting with the trailer is probably what many of you are getting with out due to tolerance differences. Service manager said he would get back to me by the end of the week. I will keep you updated. Fingers crossed.

Please describe your vibration for us. Is it consistent? Speed related? Etc, etc.

The only explanation I can come up with is that your quad trailer tires are badly out of balance or out of round and vibration is transmitted into the truck. I have experienced this several times with U Haul trailer with badly balanced tires.

Zero vibration without trailer. With trailer vibration is light at lower speeds and real rough at 70. Shakes the entire truck. Hands shake on the wheel but it is the entire truck doing that as it doesn't feel like it is coming through the steering mechanisms. Similar to the videos recently posted and described by many of you. I did have the drone vibration when I bought the truck in July of 2013 but that went away some how. Crew cab Z71 5.3
