I was interested in picking up a 2014 Silverado 1LT Z71/LT Plus Pkg with the 5.3L until I came across this forum and now I don't think that would be a wise choice; due to the incentives & rebates I can pick up a 2014 in the mid 30's. Is this vibration/skaking/moaning something I would notice right off the bat if I did choose to test drive?

 

Are some models/rims/gear setups more apt to having this problem?

 

From what the window sticker shows the final assembly of this Silverado was in Mexico, not sure if this has anything to do with it?

 

 

No the vibration is not specific to any particular body style or truck options, build date, or build location. Furthermore, some have reported the vibration not showing up until several thousands of miles have been put on the odometer. Long story short, it's basically a complete crap shoot as to whether you will have the problem or not. Not having the problem when you test drive the truck will eliminate you buying a vibrator from the get go, but there's no guarantee it won't develop a vibration later. Honestly if I were in your shoes, I'd steer clear of GM trucks for at least another year or 2. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have bought this truck.

Most people don't seem to have a vibration till after 70 MPH. IN the 9K miles I put on my truck, I have been on two trips of 500 miles, on one smooth as glass, second one slight vibration at 72 MPH. I believe it was the road. They are all a crap shoot, just check all the forums and see how people are fairing with all the brands and pick from there. That's what I did.

My truck has acted in the same manor......once you got above 70 MPH, it is just a matter of time before the vibrations started. Usually it was right at 72 MPH where it was at its worst, however I will say that this was not consistent. It may have not have been felt until closer to 80 MPH....just depended on the day.

 

I have had my truck to the dealership twice within the first 1800 miles to address the issue. The first course was to road force balance the original wheels and tires. This didnt change anything. After my second trip (this past week), the dealer swapped out the original wheels and tires from another truck on the lot. I went from having Goodyear Eagle LS-2's to the Goodyear Wrangler RS-A's. While both tires suck IMO, the RS-A's are quieter and smoother than the LS-2's. This replacement seem to lessen the vibrations felt above 70-72, but did not totally eliminate them.

 

I took the service adviser for a ride after the wheel/tire swap. He agreed that he felt a vibration, but didnt really seem to think it was a "big deal". He actually started our ride off saying "he thinks it is caused by my Extang Tonneau cover flapping in the wind". I proved him wrong by rolling it up and taking back down the interstate with the vibrations still present.

 

He told me that "they have done all they could do at this point, but if I was still unhappy, to bring it back in". I explained to him that this IS a common problem across the 2014's and a short trip on the internet would prove that this is not a isolated issue. I explained that is most likely a drive-line issue (trans, rear-end, engine, etc) and that GM has admitted to being "aware" of the problem but not fully understanding the root cause or potential solution. The service adviser then told me "that he highly doubts it's anything other than a wheel/tire issue". Pfffffff....shows how much he knows.

 

I guess at this point all I can do is just live with the vibrations as they appear and HOPE/PRAY that GM finds a solution for the fix (wishful thinking). I love every other aspect of this truck, but dammit GM, got your s*** together when it comes to these vibrations

It also does it at a slow-roll, say around 15-20 mph. It does NOT do it when I put it in nuetral and stop. While sitting at a stop light it feels a lot more "under-a-load" than it has before too... That goes away as well when I put it in nuetral. At first I figured it was the rotors so I pulled them and had them turned. NO DICE!!!! So I went to work:


-Rotors turned

-Drums turned

-New calipers

-New brake lines

-New pads and shoes

-New Swaybar links

-New Thottle Position Sensor (Check Engine Light fired this code)

-New U Joints (Front and Back)

-Tires rotated

-Beers drank


Dealer says it sounds like it needs the differential serviced ($189), OR the transmission serviced ($239), OR the injectors serviced ($120)... Diagnostics will cost $110 but it would be a waste since there is no CHECK ENGINE light on!

well with an 08 you are in that sweat spot where the trade in value is still high so IMHO its best to trade it in on a new truck, most dealers don't take it for a test drive if it runs good so they may not notice the issue and even if they do say you know it has a bad tire because they don't care to do any work and most likely will just take your word for it.

 

I say trade it in because its going to start losing value fast from here on and you know it has issues so trade it in is your best solution to your problems.

this is why they get away with not fixing these trucks, because people give up and agree to live with defective trucks

 

all you have to do is file lemon law, if GM arbitration doesn't agree to buy it back, get a lawyer and file lemon law claim in civil court

 

what people don't realize is this may not be a safety issue where it automatic becomes a lemon but they will try to wiggle out of it by saying its "normal" but lemon law also applies to anything that substantially reduces the resale value of the vehicle and this is where they cannot wiggle out of it by saying its "normal" because not all trucks do it and they cannot deny it GREATLY reduces the resale value.

My new truck vibrated after leaving the dealership when I reach 70MPH on the freeway. still does it today.

For what it's worth both ford and ram have had the same problem in the past. Not nearly as widespread as this GM problem but google _____ vibration and you'll see others from competitors with the same problem.

 

I feel terrible for y'all with the issue. I've test driven three Silverados. One had a real bad 70+ vibration, one a mild 40-50 vibe and the other didn't vibrate. I honestly think this issue is more widespread than the 20-25% reported on the forums. I hope they get this figured out in the future and get y'all fixed or bought back. It's really shocking how many people have this problem. The worst part is GM not standing by their product and taking a piss at loyal customers.

That one that did not vibrate - it did not vibrate yet. Many owners report vibration after several thousand miles.

Trust me. I've read every post of this thread. I know.

 

And it ****ing sucks. I don't know how much longer my current vehicle will hold out, the incentives are finally down in my price range but I just can't trust the quality of these 2014s and most disturbingly GM to back their product and treat loyal customers with any decency.

 

I don't know what I'll do if my current ride finally breaks down but I'm praying GM gets this problem most importantly and the other issues figured out for the 2015s. The fords and rams are just flat out ugly, really the only other vehicle I like would be a dodge challenger but I really don't want a car.

 

This sucks. Get this shit figured out pronto GM.

RE: The safety issue. It very well could be a safety issue you never know.

 

I was reading complaints on the NHTSA site today to see about the vibration issue. Only like 4 reports on there for the vibration. Not for nothing but there have to be over hundred of you owners here with the vibration problem but only a small number of reports there. I'm guessing GM really doesn't care about complaints on a truck forum. If you want to force their hand y'all really should be reporting this to a safety agency like NHSTA, if they get enough reports they'll start investigating GM.

So this morning temp was 45 and it really vibrated bad (possibly the worst so far) for the first 2 miles, after about 4 miles didn't really notice any. Defiantly thinking my vibration is cold engine or cold tranny related. What's going to happen when it's -40 this winter?

 

Tomorrow I will let the truck warm up for 10 minutes before I drive and see if that helps.

Post the link to file a complaint then hopefully those having issues will file.

You need to read the entire thread and learn what has been tried to solve the vibration problem. Warming your truck is not the solution.
