this caught my eye

 

"Adjusting the U-joint working angles on the current full-size trucks is normally accomplished by moving the center bearing up and/or shimming the axle pinion up about 2 degrees. It is generally not necessary to move the transmission up or down."

 

so it sounds like they commonly come with the wrong u-joint angles from the factory. I doubt if this could be all it is or they would have a service bulletin fix for something that simple but maybe it is in the tranny angle side that a shim wont fix as someone mentioned.

 

do all trucks have the transfer case thingy or is that just the 4 wd ones?

 

 

i wouldn't be surprised if the tranny angles were off. There is another bulletin out there that is a fix for vibrations when he truck is idling. I had it done on my truck, because when I would come to a stop it would vibrate, but just when idling. I didnt have any "at speed" vibrations.

 

They have to reseat the motor and the trans and recenter everything on the mounts. So that makes me think if the trans is off center, it could be causing issues.

Just dropped my 2014 GMC Sierra (w/ 1400 miles) at the dealer to start investigating this vibration issue. I will say that the vibrations I am feeling sound minimal, especially in comparison to some of the posts I have read on this forum. Mine are mostly in the seat/floorboard and are only felt between 70-85 MPH.

 

The vibrations on mine also seem to come and go. Some days on the same stretch of road it fine, others it is really bad.

 

Praying they can at least minimize it to a tolerable level without multiple trips, runaround from service dept, lawyers, buybacks, etc.

 

Will keep everyone posted on the findings!

Well within seconds of me posting the last post above, the dealer called and said my truck was ready. They roadforced all of the wheels and tires. One of the tires was replaced and the other 3 wheels were re-balanced. Took it up on the highway and the truck does feel much better. There is a slight vibration/bumpiness at 73-75, but I am thinking that is from the roadway. Took it up to about 88 mph without any issues.

 

Hoping there aren't any further issues!

I hope so for your sake but I think you will find that its still there and it just needs to be driven a little to show up or find a smooth road for you to notice it.

 

mine is sometimes very slight then a mile or two down the road it starts up again. seams to get stronger after things warm up and not be that bad when the truck is parked and hasn't been driven and things are cold

 

just left the dealer for service #4 for vibration and he said its a known issue for "some" trucks but GM has no recommended fix for it so they will call me when they know how to fix it, otherwise they consider it "normal" to vibrate

Well mine is definitely temperature dependent and seems to occur when temps are between 60-80 degrees F outside. It's been fine all summer in the high heat and the truck was fine during the cold winter. As I've stated in the past I started to notice the vibration in the spring as temps started to go up but then early June it went away and never came back until this past week when temperatures dropped to the low 70's during the day and the low 60's at night. I'm still thinking it's tire related though, but affected by temperature.

Guess I spoke too soon.....on my drive home, noticed it again, but feels like it is even worse. So weird that it is an issue that just seems to come and go without rhyme or reason. Got a call into the dealer to take it back in.......... If I had known I were going to have these unsolvable issues, I would have never bought the vehicle.....feeling pretty sick right now on a $50K+ truck.

 

We'll see what happens next!

sorry to hear it but im not surprised at all, the only known fix for the vibration issue is to replace the truck or get used to it and learn to ignore the vibration.

 

start documenting everything and do your lemon law requirement then file a claim.

 

its up to you if you want a replacement or a refund

So in order for GM to offer me a Buy Back, do I have to contact a lawyer regarding the lemon law? Or can GM just offer a buy back? Please advise.

no you don't need a lawyer, I talked to one and he said I don't need a lawyer, just file with the BBB and the lemon law process takes care of itself

 

GM will not offer to do anything until you file lemon law, then and only then will they try to resolve this with you to preserve their reputation and BBB rating to avoid bad press

but make sure you have the number or repair attempts to qualify first or they will tell you the dealer must still be given those chances to fix it.

Does it have to be 5 attempts to fix the vibration? I thought lemon law was 3 attempts.

every state is different, google lemon law for your state

 

some are 3

 

mine was 4

 

yours could be ???? who knows so google it

When people post can you please give us more info on the truck like make, model, type ( crew cab etc), 2wd or 4wd, rim size and brand of tire, month and year it was built. maybe we can narrow down which style is more of a issue or maybe it's just hit and miss on all styles

General Motors told me it was pretty much normal and they wouldn't do anything else to it. Mine was in the shop 6 times for the vibration at 73-75 mph and I wasn't about to take it as normal. If it was normal ALL trucks would do it and they all don't. I filed with the BBB and it took roughly 3 weeks total to close the deal on a new truck.

 

Yes I took if for a good test drive on the interstate with the Service Department manager in the passenger seat. My new truck which I have had since Saturday is such a better ride at this moment. So much happier.

 

Don't let them off the hook I truly beleive that GM is taking care of the sqeaky wheels first and if you don't complain they won't do a thing. They did a trade assist and covered all the depreciation. Do it quickly while there are still 2014's to pick from. Everybody is saying right now wait and get a 2015 that is reading this but you will have to pay the difference between the cost of your 14 and the new 15. Good luck and keep up the fight.

I'm a auto tech for a G.M. dealership in P.A. I'm currently experiencing this same problem with a 2014 Silverado,four wheel drive,automatic, with the crew cab if that's what you want to call it. It currently has approximately 20,000 miles on it. This vehicle also has Goodyear Wrangler tires on it,20 inch and going down the road frfom 68 m.p.h and up I can feel this shake in the vehicle. I have road force balanced the tires,switched the driveshaft with another stock unit and then i tried another set of tires that were Goodyear Eagle tires. I have replaced the left side axle,measured axle runout at all four hubs,i have removed all rotors and cleaned them with a rollock wheel. This truck is driving me insane,I currently have over 20 hours trying to figure this out, I seriously don't know what to do next the customer is being very patient whichis nice of them they have been in a loner this hole time. We have had this truck for about a week and a half. Help me G.M help.
