Aw crap, this may cost me some $$$

Recommended Posts

So my front u joint on my rear driveshaft needed to be replaced so I figured since I had a press it wouldnt be a big deal. Well it wasn't for the most part, except for when I go to put the snap rings on the shaft end

Follow the orange circle, the blue was so I could identify which side was messed up

I guess when I pressed the old u joint out, I must have take some of the aluminum lip with it. My question is, is it safe to leave it like that, or should I fork out the money for another driveshaft?

I reinstalled it and drove on it for about 5 miles, and it seemed fine, but Im just not sure if only a little less than 3/4 of the circle will hold the clip in place and hopefully keep the cap from shooting out and destroying a whole lot of everything. Good news is, it doesn't make a squeky noise while driving it now! Haha

The round part of the clip is set in there pretty good. Used a punch to get it in so it is definetly pretty tight in there.

No salvage yards around me have another driveshaft. I did check eBay though

I think the shaft is fine, but I just found one on craigslist for $50 as well as a tcase for $75 and a grille for $50.

Hopefully the tcase isn't blown up for $75 haha

The guy had both rear and front differentials with 4.10 ratios but sold them. That would have been nice until I could get mine geared to 4.88's, oh well...
