Order times?

Recommended Posts

They said that they had to go to shipping the trucks with the steelies because people were jumping on the trains and stealing the 22's. So now they just ship the 22's to the dealership and they swap out the rims...

While that seems like a logical explanation I doubt if its true. The train cars are enclosed so getting to the vehicles is not easy. Whats more many trucks ship now with 20's so those would be just as tempting at 22's to thieves. Camaros are shipping with 22's.

It more has to do with the assemmbly plant not set up to work with those size wheels and low profile tires. Since the amount of them being ordered is relatively small compared to the big picture, its offered as LPO (Limited Production Option). Cheaper to let the dealer install than retool the assembly plant for an LPO.

I ordered one today and am expecting up to 12 weeks. I did inform the dealer that GM needs to step up their game on customer orders. I ordered a new Chevrolet El Camino in 1982 to get it built exactly to my specifications and it took 6 233ks from order to delivery. I do not understand why with the computers and software available today that a customer order delivery time can't be reduced. It would seem software could program the customer order up in the production order do reduce waiting times.

Welcome to the site.

Congratulations on your pending new truck. Curious, what was the dealers response to your comment?        I did inform the dealer that GM needs to step up their game on customer orders.

He understood my comment but like me, he doesn't have the power to change the way GM operates. Besides, Ford is no different. I guess GM figures it helps dealers sell what they have on the lot more than sales to people who want to order something special. Over the years I've looked  at many new cars sitting on lots and wonder what the dealer was thinking when he ordered that vehicle in that color. and options.

Strange colors and options are required to be sold by GM to secure allocation for next years special colors. They are not always bad, just depends on the year.

Same goes for Corvettes and Camaros, need to keep your number strong, too at least get the same number to sell the next year, so, that is why, even with trucks it makes more sense to sell what you have (volume) rather than hope you get a bunch of special orders to fill the gap.

Nothing wrong with a special order, I have done it, but it does not keep their doors open like floor stock.
