2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic

Recommended Posts

I bought my truck & then drove about 200 miles of interstate to get home. I averaged 21-22 MPG, going 77 MPH, with an outside temp between 85-90 degrees.

Took ours on an 1800 mile round trip and got the same. Definitely better than our 99 5.4L Ford.

Just traded in my 2014 silverado 5.3/6 speed with 3.42 for a 2015 6.2/8 speed with 3.23 In stock form, 2014 averaged 18.2 hand calculated at 75 cruise control for my weekly 350 mile trip. First trip with 6.2 at 75 cruise control was 20.8 hand calculated. Awesome truck and wish I had traded sooner. I added wheels/tires to my 14' and mileage dropped to 15. I'm still debating if I'll change wheels/tires on my 15.

Was it a low trailer? That is pretty good.

Yes it's an open trailer. The trailer it self is 2000 lbs and I had a 850 lb 4wheeler and 250 lb mower and probably anouther 100 lbs of stuff on it.

What is the max range you have seen?

That's easy to do if you reset the trip meters just before you head down a long pass!

Let's see your best averages!

Oh and I have a 6.2!

I would show my 400 mile average but I have been towing my camper in the last 400 so it's nothing exciting

But you really can't fake the 50 mile average! I got these numbers on my last trip to Denver and some of it was in rush hour traffic

So, how does the computer figure out the range? Are you saying it is using one of the trip meters? Great 6.2 results. You have a nice 3.1l in 4 mode.

This was a nice country road drive. (4.3l 4x4 AT tires)

This is with my daily short all city commute. (This is pretty close to the hand calc.)

Range is simply average fuel economy times remaining fuel. The average fuel economy used is not based on the trip a or b unless you've not reset it in awhile.

Not sure that makes sense. Is there a hidden lifetime mpg? It would make sense if it used the last 400 mile average. It does seem to recalculate the number on the fly as you are running lower on gas. I did a highway trip a week ago with speeds around 80, so my mpg was below 20 and it seemed to change the range accordingly as fuel was running out. But, I may be mistaken.

Is there any info out there on how this is calculated.

The manual only says the fuel range estimate is based on the average of the vehicles fuel economy over recent driving history and the fuel remaining. It also says the range may not be reset.
