2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic

Just filled up again....raised tire pressure from 33 cold to 38 most of this last tank. About 25% city driving (average speed was 37 I think) and figured at the pump 18.83 mpg with DIC showing 19.2. Could not be more impressed with this rig! Changed the oil this past weekend at 2350 miles. Started to look a little dark and I always like to get the first oil change done at 2K miles or so on a new motor....makes me sleep better anyway.

Actually rule of thumb now a days is to keep the factory filled oil in for a normal oil change interval as it has certain additives that help with the break in process. And dark is just fine now a days. Dexos is going to look darker then most folks are used to.

That's interesting....when I talked with the dealer (not that they know anything :) ) they said the oil in if from the factory is just plain ol' Dexos that they would be putting back in it.

If GM uses a oil for "break in" I'd think we would know about it at some point.

I had my oil initially changed (dealer) at 2,200. It was still honey colored at that mileage. I just checked level yesterday at 5,300, and oil is still honey colored.

You'd be surprised the things that even the dealerships don't know about what happens at the factory. But I have it on good information that most of the automanufacturers do put in some sort of "break-in" additives to the first oil fill at the factory. Believe it you want, or don't. No worries. Just be happy with what you drive! Now I am the type who will change out the transfer case and differential oils after 6000-10,000 on the new vehicle, and the stuff that does come out has sometimes surprised me, and sometimes has not.

Just my opinion

It would be interesting if "we" could confirm that the factory "first oil" was a break-in oil.

However, I'm skeptical that this is the case... with extensive aluminum being used...I would be willing to bet that our engines are pretty well "grooved" by 3-5K miles.

Casting sand, burs, metal flakes, dust, chemicals, etc.....are probably more likely to do more harm than any "break-in" oil they "might" add would benefit.

My thoughts exactly.

Filled up again last night....

389 Miles

20.7 Gallons

18.79 MPG with the DIC showing 19.01 MPG

That tank even included a couple top speed limiter checks. :driving:

I have a 2014 GMC 4 door I live in the county . I get about 18.5 driving to town and around town. I took my first road trip my screen said 18.9 at 77 . on my trip I filled up 4 times and I 17.3 ,18.6,18.7 and 21 on the last leg home 2 lane roads at 60 I check my mileage using a calculator and my indicator on the truck is .4-.7 tenths more then actual My lifetime on the remote link says 17 mpg I would suspect it to be off by .4-.7 mpg as I get by manual calculations Norm

Just got back from a road trip. Despite having a level kit my truck still gets incredible mileage. I have some miles on the truck now, just under 4300 miles to give an idea. I averaged 22 MPG on the away leg traveling between 70-75 mph. On the way home, I was ready to get home haha. On the return leg, I averaged 80-85 mph with an average of 19.8MPG on DIC. On the return leg I too a detour which consisted of about 30 miles of 55mph roads with stop lights. Who decided putting a stoplight/sign on a 55MPH 2 lane road, idk, but I don't agree with them haha. On the away leg I had regular, unleaded. I'll check exactly what it is next time I'm at the local pump. On the return trip, I had premium in there. DAMN did that make it more fun. It made the truck sound a bit louder, like it was happier to have the nicer stuff in there haha. And also it got better mileage than usual. Usually for the same trip I use regular going both away and return but I decided for premium for whatever reason this time. I usually avg about 17MPG on the return trip, with the away trip being the same as earlier mentioned, 21-22 MPG.

No winds that day. If anything I had a wind pushing against me/at my side trying to run me off the road. No tailgating/drafting. I just flew around traffic at 80-85 mph and got better mileage than usual.

Just thought I would share!

I am headed to California from colorado, I'm in a hotel at the moment in Nevada but I took this pic today after I filled up. Now keep in mind I went all the way OVER the Rocky Mountain range to include the continental divide and into green river ut. I averaged 77 mph the entire way.

Also ended up stuck in construction traffic 2 times along the way and came to a complete stop.

Just did a run from ATL to Birmingham and back.So far I am in awe of this little truck it runs out great and in normal driving it is a compleat joy to drive,If you need a TOWN truck for occasional haul/towing the v6 is great !

Now is it a race truck no but comming from a Hemi challenger it's not bad at all , it will not pin you in the seat but it has plenty if get up and go for me .

The throttle response is the only thing that I have to complain about so far and it SUCKS BIG TIME lol it is very slow to responde till about 1/4 throttle then it is fine .
