2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic

Recommended Posts

The terrain is perfectly flat...jack. EVERY other GM truck I have ever owned didn't START out by getting shitty gas mileage! and it's the same drive. My dealer told me it shouldn't be doing this...because of multiple issues I've had they keep in touch about this truck.

Hey, I'm a GM fan boy...but sometimes you got to call a spade a spade...the 2014's seem to be getting terrible gas mileage in the North, it's not just me!

FWIW my mileage is still poor. The best ive gotten was a 50 mile round trip on the highway 14 mpg down with 19 mpg back 30 mph head wind down 30 mph tail wind home gusting to 50.

Other than that my average is still a lifetime of 11 mpg at 702 total miles. Mostly city driving. I have a 6 mile drive to work. I don't drive like an idiot...I've been driving to get good gas mileage. Mine will be going into the dealer next week. Bash me if you want...I'll post dic pictures this week...fact is my 2014 truck gets worse gas mileage than my 2012. My 2012 would get 13 with the same city driving conditions.

Yea I'm at like 3400 miles and in the same boat. I wont go into the details (theyre in previous posts) but my truck is yet to get more than 13 MPG city since I bought it. The weird thing is, highway MPG is perfect at about 19-21 MPG. I live in Connecticut, purchased the truck in November and its been freezing/the only gas my truck as seen is winter blend so I am done bashing the MPG and just going to wait until it's warmer out and the summer blends are back. I have like a 4 mile commute to work so between the warming up and truck not getting anywhere near opitmal temps before i get to work, I think the MPG CITY im getting is normal. I can totally see myself going from the 13 MPG city im getting to like 16-18 MPG when theres no warm up and summer blends are back (hope im not being too optimistic) but even my Acura TSX would go from like 26 city to 20 city in the winters...

LOL... maybe that's the trick... try to kill people. If your fuel mileage doesn't get any better, at least it lets you vent a little and you will feel better mentally.

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about your poor mileage, hold on till summer and see if it gets better. I'm starting to see a trend with the colder climates getting very poor mileage, I wonder if the tuning for the colder temps is sub par? I'm not trying to rub it in but it has been cold here the last few days and I'm getting 15.5-16 on E85 with 75/25 highway/city so I don't think I'm seeing it. There are several different blends of winter blend depending on the average temperatures of your area, that may be the biggest factor but that's just a guess.

True...I'm glad you all are getting good mileage...it gives me some hope! I wonder if our blend is wrong considering it's been so cold here in Michigan this year...We have been consisting 20 degrees colder than average.

Well I have all my paperwork I could give a summary:

9/23/13 vibration and road noise at 70 mph. This was stock rims and tires

dealership pulled tires off and checked balance both front were out right 1.25 oz and left 1.00 oz the rear out .75 oz ea.

the noise is normal road noise heard on test drive. and after driving 4 other trucks

10/28/2013 back same issue after manager got involved found that some clips were left on from when the truck was made. ?????

recall 13330 active fuel management calibration performed.

1/08/2014

performed recall N130370 fuel pressure regulator replacement. checked pressure per recall and read 83.50psi

01/27/2014

recall 14008 overheating exhaust components warranty code s0307. This will cancel recall 13330.

LOL. You go and just fill the tank and watch the it go so you could take a picture mine does that then it comes back down to a real number. I had 22 after filling up at the tank. My best is 24 when I first bought the truck.

I sense your frustration and hope that you didn't hire an attorney prematurely. I was an outside consultant for such a case when I had my dyno shop back in 2000 and that poor mans new vette sat in that dealer lot for at least a year while he made payments to keep his credit in good standing. Once legal is brought into the mix, the dealers hands are tied by GM.

If the dealer has any clue to what they are doing they will be able to tell if the engine/calibration is not working efficiently, which it doesn't seem to be by the indicated fuel mileage. After that, they just need to figure out why and that will require somebody a little more specialized. My first thought was that the ECU is not able to determine alcohol content correctly, which would swing Stoich from 14.7 to 12.5-ish, now with DOD not activating, sounds more like a load issue either calibration related or something physical in the drive train. Either will produce poor mileage.

They call me and said the its running to spec. How can it start off with good gas mileage and then go to shit after updates and its running to specs. And gets this said the same thing I did on here. that's why I did to see how people would react. Well GM said everybody getting the same gas mileage that I am. Go figure.

I have about 500 milers on by my own driving and the truck has 900. I noticed a few things . In auto 4x4 I'm getting about 11 mpg around town. I didn't pay attention in 4x4 high. I do think 4x4 high works better than 4x4 auto but I don't have the snow plow on now with the 4x4 auto. My overall mileage on trip B is @ 16mpg and trip A varies depending on where and the speed I drive. The longer I leave the trip A without resetting the lower it goes. So I think resetting is giving everyone a false feel for real MPG.

I was thinking the same thing so i left my trip on for a while just to see. Pic attached

I never reset the B trip its at 15.1

Trip A I always do when I get a tank gas and write the mileage down. I just like to compare them but I think you see the picture now. But you getting way better mileage then thats for either way it goes.
