2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic

Recommended Posts

The 14008 recall incorporated the 13330 recall into it. It's just software updates. It's kind of like when windows does one big service pack instead of installing a bunch of little software patches they do one big one...

If you owned your truck before January you would have know that they are two different recalls. And GM has had problems with fuel pump setting.

this right here... my dealership has had my truck the last few days and I told them I will NOT pick it up until im getting at least the MPG prior to the last recall (14-16 mpg which still sucked). They keep telling me they can't figure it out/that being said it is ready for pick up and I refuse to pick up a truck that's getting 9-12 mpg right now. If i wanted a $50k+ truck with that mileage I would have a bought a freaking Raptor.

Mine's brand new (<1000 KMs) and still breaking in. Past weekend, I averaged 11.5 L/100 KM over 450 KMs. That translates to about 20 US MPG or 25 MPG Canadian. Driving was on country 2 lane roads lots of hills, straight-a-ways etc.

Just picked up my truck, they did the rear window recall and held onto it for a few days when i told them the fire recall screwed up my mileage a few weeks back. They couldnt find anything wrong and said the truck is running normal. As a precaution they told me they completely reflashed the whole truck, re-did every flash (3 in total) since the truck was built (throttle body, transmission, and then fire recall flashes) and said they all went in perfectly (fire recall flash was weird they said because their internet went down in the middle of the flash?). But overall he said the truck is running "happy" now (whatever the hell that means). The technician said it will run weird for a bit though because it needs to relearn my driving habits and boy was he not kidding. The 30 mile highway trip home was funky, shifts were wacky and engine was all over the place for the first half and then evened out, I will note it was in V4 A LOT and the drone was really noticeable compared to before even with my stock exhaust. Hopefully when everything gets back to learning my grandpa habits it will be near the 16-18 mpg i was originally receiving. I will update you guys after a few tanks of gas.

2014 GMC AT 5.3 3.42 4X4

I had a problem with vibration and recently changed tires from BFG 285/55/R20 to Michelin LTX 275/55/R20. I also removed air dam, then reinstalled. Before I was only getting avg of 13 MPG. I also just had the recall done. Now I am at

Do you have after market rims on the your truck if do then check the spacing between the hub and rim. You might want to to try hub centric rings.

They are factory rims. Once the Michelins were put on it drives very smooth with no vibration.

I thought about the factory tires on my 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 mght not contribute much to the mileage factor LOL they are the 20" all terrain goodyears. I was running a set of Michelins on my 09 that got a consistent 18.1 mpg over a bunch of miles so I agree the tires could make a difference. Will hopefully be a couple of years before I have to install a new set so going to have to suffer through this I guess. What REALLY hurts my feelings is that I just got back from a business trip to PA The rental car that I drove up there for around 300 miles (dogging it) averaged 39.1 MPG. This truck looks like it is gonna be pushed to get 1/2 that consistently. HOWEVER the comfort level in that little midsize Mazda was not very good. Hmm we do value comfort a lot I guess.

6.2L 3.42 4X4

Austin to San Antonio and then to Corpus Christi with a 20mph head wind(only close to Corpus Christi) doing no greater than 70mph the entire way. --- 17.8 (by hand) --- 18.3 reported by the dash.

About 20 miles driven around Corpus Christi and then back to San Antonio going into a strong northern while doing 75mph --- 14.9 (by hand) --- 15.6 reported by the dash.

Maybe its the strong wind, but my dash read out does not seem to be very accurate.

I won't officially complain until after break in...it has bee consistently cold here..Low 20's and teens. I'm at 384 miles...roads are bad...it's been in Auto 4x4 most of the time...took a highway trip...70 mph...15.5mpg.

In town I'm getting roughly 11 to 12 mpgs.

I'm pissed. My 2012 got way better mileage than this...but I'll hold off ripping into GM until after break-in a few more tanks of gas. I've never gotten this kind of mileage...even in the winter...even with a new truck...my 2012 was purchased in a February.

2 full fill ups and 1 12 gallon fill up. First fill up 17.1, second fill up was 17.6. Both of those were lots of rural driving and plenty of hunting (4x4 use). 12 gallon fill up was 75% highway and the rest like above 2 tanks. That fill up I got 19.3. So far I am plenty happy with my 4.3 double cab 4x4.

The ecotec 4.3 is a perfect match for this truck.

My average is 20.9 over the last 3800 miles, mixed city/highway and towing trailers around 3k lbs. This v6 feels like it has the same power as my old 2004 5.3l. My best 400 miles run is 23.0 according to the computer. Im really happy with this engine.

As someone who tows 8k-12k pound equipment trailers on a regular basis with my '05 3500 duramax dually I really dont understand why anyone would put a 6.2l in a half ton pickup and then try to tow 10k lbs. Yes, you might have the power to get up a steep hill but trying to control it in any type of emergency situation is very dangerous.

Is there anyone here that had actually tried to tow 12k lbs? That's just plain stupid to put 12k lbs behind a half ton truck. If you need to tow that much just get a 2500 or 3500.
