2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic

Recommended Posts

Gas milage was awesome in the summer for me (feel free to checkout my Fuely link on the bottom of my post. I had 3 fill ups in the low 13's that didn't get logged because I was having problems with the app on my phone). Then the cold came and so did "winter fuel" the same trips to and from work, I was getting 19mpg is now mid 13's.

It's because without the V4 mode this truck is no better then anything else. It just doesn't get warmed up enough on my 17 mile trip to work to get it to go into v4. Also my 2004 was getting about the same milage in the winter and I parked it outside and used the remote start every day for at least 17 min in the morning and 10 min before I left work. The 14 gets parked in a 45* garage and the remote start hardly ever gets used. The 14 blows it out of the water when it comes to summer milage though. If you bought your truck in the winter and live in the far north you will have a great surprise in milage come summer. Too bad EPA testing didn't take cold into effect because it doesn't really matter that I can get 20 for 6 months of the year, if the other 6 months I'm getting 13 because an average of 16.5 overall isn't that impressive. But then not every one lives where it's so freaking cold either.

Just another thing to mention my GF equinox gets around 27 mpg in the summer and she's been getting 19 lately parked in the heated garage at night too.

bought my truck in July and was getting 19-20MPG all the time, now that the temp hasn't gone above 30'F here in over a month and can't do any better than 15-16MPG (same driving habits same trips back and forth to work even with out the 4X4). Also tried premium fuel in the summer months and my MPG didn't change any.

Drove around in the snow storm today, kept it in AUTO drive mode and got about 16.5 around town with the v6.

I've been getting about 11-12 MPG since the temps have dropped below 10-20 degrees the last few weeks. I'm sure its a blend of winter fuel and a few minutes warm-up in the morning but I am going to ask the dealership this week when I go in if its normal. I don't use 4x4 and drive it like a grandpa so I'm curious to their explanation. Since its been freezing out, the shifts are really hard and the V4 drone is atrocious.

I'm guessing your running a 5.3L ? My 4.3 will get 17-20 around town in 2wd even when the temps hover around 0*. I have a 4x4 dbl cab. I don't drive like a mad man but, I don't drive like a grandma either.

Yep, 5.3L w/3.43... I have no idea what can be causing the drop. I'm going to ask the dealer to check misfires as well because sometimes I feel a huge loss of power when not in V4.

Almost done with my first tank on my double cab 4x4 v6 with 3.42 gears. Currently the computer shows 17.9 mpg. I still have about 150 miles but if that's close I am happy. It has been cold here in Maryland over the last week, so warm ups are necessary and I have done a good bit of hunting. I can only imagine it getting better.

Update on 2014 Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 5.3 engine 3.42 rear end. It seems to be improving slightly as I get a few miles on it. I took it to OHIO last week and ran one tank of E-85 plus ran in 4wd auto over 1/2 the time (forgot to switch it no dash indicator light you know) so I think that may have been what caused the lower mileage on the first 1000 miles or so. Here si what I have 25 50 and last 400

Have you had the recall done yet?

Once you get the update you lose 50% of mileage. I went 22 to 16 now am getting 14 and dealership to me today GM aware of the problem and doesn't have a fix. and that's not counting the other problems am having. 50,000.00 truck and they just want me to just seat and deal with it.
