2014+ Gas Mileage (MPG) Topic

Recommended Posts

Using the trip calculator that tracks bests, I have gotten 8.8L/100km at 100km/hr for at least 50 kms and it now has 6000kms on it. Translated for US folks, that's 26.73 mpg with the cruise control set at 62 mph for a consistent 31 miles... so, not on the instant thing and now has 3700 miles on it.

I'm happy with my new 4.3L V6. We'll see when camping season arrives how well it tows my camper

Just put 1,200 miles on... now up to 2,300 or so total...

Cruise for most of the trip varying from 74-79 so as not to peg it at any one speed for too long.

400 mile average is 15.1 - 'best' is 18.9

Questions:

- How is 'best' calculated - I know at a couple points I was getting better than 18.9 for an extended time.

- 15.1 at an average of 75 seems really low for a vehicle that's rated at 22 highway - I know its cold and its winter gas, but it shouldn't be knocking that many miles per gallon off, right?

My '07 Yukon with 150K on it was running better milage than this truck...not the end of the world, but expected better by now.

So much for gm's mpg claims. This is Texas flat lands.

(McAllen - Houston) btw truck is stock running 40psi on all tires or it would have been worse.

I did have a head wind, but this has been the worst mileage I've gotten from any of my vehicles. The previous was a 2010 Toyota fj cruiser and a 99 2 door Tahoe before it.

On your DIC go to settings and add it to your info pages. It is the fuel economy page, you can choose between. 25,50 or 400

Ok, my second fuel tank is about done...lasted about 3 days. Right now I have a quarter tank of gas left and I have driven 224 miles. This is what I have noticed about my truck.

1. The truck definitely FEELS like it has no real power

2. I have to stay in the gas pedal to maintain speed.

3. If I let off of the gas and try to just "coast" my truck instantly starts slowing down as if I were slightly breaking even when im going down hill.

4. To get up to speed on the Highway I really have to get on to the gas and hold it there other wise I will go from 70 to 60 with in 3-5 sec.

This is the first actual pick up I have ever owned however, I have owned a Suburban since 2006 (recently traded for a 2010) but they both maintain their speeds a lot better.

Not sure what to think...

It sounds like the engine is leaning itself out for whatever reason. This would throw the air-fuel ratio way off, requiring far more fuel to go into the engine to produce power, resulting in poor fuel economy and requiring a heavy foot. I have seen this syndrome in the past on other vehicles. Lower than normal fuel pressure and/or faulty input by some engine sensor, or poor electrical system grounding could be the culprit.

Another possibility - faulty engine knock sensor, causing ignition timing to be way retarded, resulting in poor fuel economy and also requiring heavy foot.

I would investigates these two possibilities.

Works out to about 9.8 MPG :(

My dealership tells me it's normal due to winter gas, awd, idling, city driving, yada yada yada

Who can top that?

Anyone in Saskatchewan getting these numbers?

At least your AT is breaking 15mpg. I have been stuck between 13/14 since I bought mine 1800 miles ago :(

I wasn't even aware their was an update for these trucks already. I haven't had it done and I get 14.8 city and thats with pulling a trailer a few times a week. Ive been on the highway once at got about 19 mpg. Also got to remember you can get three different gear sizes in these trucks. the 3.08. 3.23, and 3.42. The higher the gear the worst mileage you should get. I have the 3.42 in my truck and I'm suppose to get 16 city. So 14.8 is close enough for me with pulling a trailer.

3.23?? From what I've heard it's 3.08, 3.42 and 3.73. Not sure if that's what you meant.

I wouldn't say that is a viable rear gear option then as the vast majority of owners will be V8 engines and only have the 3.08, 3.42, and 3.73 as options.
