HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit

Recommended Posts

I agree with Corwest. Sounds like a harness issue. Try opening the relay (just remove the black plastic cover) and see if there is somehow already rust or anything holding the circuit on when connected to battery. I had to do that for my LED bar harness. It started rusting a little from a week of heavy rains and a bad position in the engine bay where it got water. I just disconnected the relay itself and put it in a cup of 7-UP. I find that works better than coke or anything to clean battery acid build up and corrosion. It looks like a brand new relay after. I had this same issue with my light bar btw, that's why I suggest open the relay and see if anything looks wrong in there.

I spoke with TRS and they're sending me another relay and cap link. I'm going to swap them on Wednesday once they arrive. It's about 50/50 that they don't turn off as I drove home and they were fine once I shut the truck off. I'll keep you guys posted

has anyone had problems with the DDM tuning HID kits not working properly? First the driver side bulb would not ignite intermittently, if i manually turned the headlights on/off it will ignite but if I start the truck in the dark it will sometimes not light until i turn on/off manually. This is happening more and more frequently.

Then yesterday I could not get either bulb to light no matter how many times i turned them on/off manually. (It was cold and the truck hadnt been started for 2 days) After being in the Auto setting, engine running, for about 10 minutes they both finally lit up....

Anyone have any advice/similar problems?

HID kit has been installed problem-free (until now) for almost a year

My Morimoto kit is acting very strange. First, it didn't want to turn off when I turned the vehicle off. This is still an issue, but only happens 50% of the time. Now, the HID's do not light up when I hit the unlock button (they previously turned on for 30 seconds or so). Also, they are not on as my DRL's, but have been on in the past. I could hear a buzzing sound when I had my truck on, and the lights in "auto" position (HID's were off at this time). As soon as I turned the lights to the On position, the buzzing stopped. Very peculiar issues.

Can anyone with Morimoto's chime in? Do yours turn on when you hit the unlock button? Do they run as DRL's, or is there something in the relay that disables this?

New to this but it would probably help others help you if you add details about your kit since the 55 watt and 35 watt install differently. Sounds to me like you have 35 watt and the capacitors are not doing their job since it only has Issues with what they help correct.

If your relay or capacitors are shot then you will experience these issues. You need a working relay to turn the lights on and off when they are supposed to and the capacitors to stop the buzzing when they are actually on. Start there. Couple of us mentioned the relay a page or two back. Did you check it?

I've got a new relay and capacitor link coming tomorrow - Just thought I'd ask and see if it lead us anywhere different. Hoping the new relay fixes the issue, I'd like a working set of lights!

I'll bet it fixes it. There really is only a few components that could be causing the issue so start with the cheapest first

id love to find a company and have them respond offering a full retrofit done. I just don't trust myself doing all this lol

I'm sure there are companies that would do all the work for you. Someone is selling normal lights on here so you could keep a working truck and send those off. If you get LTZ lights it much easier and I'll be able to confirm this forest hand as soon as I get time to do install.

I have a set of LT headlights for sale... $375.00 plus shipping..

I installed the new relay and capacitor, and so far so good. Haven't had any lights stay on or flash like before. It's only been half a day, so I'll monitor it for the next week.

Just wondering, do your HID's stay on as DRL's, or do they turn off? I was driving in to work today, and pulled up to the building and my HID's were on while it was light out. I put the truck into Park and they turned off. Is this a normal function? I've never really noticed it before, so it could be me questioning something that is really nothing. Regardless, I want to make sure I've got my I's dotted and T's crossed before I say it's good to go.
