HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit

Recommended Posts

OK I have a 2015 HD 2500- The driver side was easy to get to. I installed not HID's but 5000k Xenons that are brighter than the factory Phillips bulbs- noticeable difference over OEM.

But the passenger side has the huge Airbox in the way. How do i remove it?

Unscrew the four corner bolts, pull lid up, remove filter and then pull the remaining box up. Its held in by rubber grommets.

The GMC does not have a low beam plug. One bulb controls low/high. What plugs in that spot?

The GM high beam control by the Shutter via the ECM, your headlight bulb plug is plug into the one in the picture "low beam"

On my present and past trucks, I just removed the hose connection and the MAF sensor connector, then grabbed the snorkel and yanked up to release the grommets holding the base and wiggled the whole box out of there. I've never had to remove the top of the box separately.

I just bought all the stuff and I'm going to do my own. I'm going in through the back of the light so I don't have to mess with permaseal

You will still need to make a hole in that cap so that you can run the wires for the wire harness running to the battery and other bulb.

I actually already made holes in the caps on the previous HID install I did and then removed hours later due to the crappy beam pattern. I used a 1+ paddle bit made a perfect home that the supplied grommet fit into perfectly.

OK THANK YOU- it looks like I should be able to access after looking at it again. There is a plastic shield i can move.

I did not want to go the full HID route yet.

Guys,

I'm thinking about ordering the Morimoto kit. Just be sure, is the below sound correct to you pros...I just want 35watt, and I guess 4,300 is the best match to the factory DRL.. or should I get 5,000 ?

9012: MORIMOTO ELITE HID SYSTEM

Ballasts - 3Five DSP

Harness Type - Canbus 9012

Bulbs – 3Five 4,300 ( best match for factory Sierra DRL ?)

My goal is to cut/ hack as little as possible.
