HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit

Recommended Posts

I think one of the pics on instagram mentioned frosting the LED lenses. How did you do that?

Yes. We prep every paint job surface by glass blasting it. Glass blasting works great for frosting the lense. You can get some frosting spray at Lowe's or Home Depot if you don't have access to a blast cabinet.

reflector housing projects more light.. even with my fxrs and hids, I still think that my stock lights with nice silverstar halogens produced more light. I really like the look of the projectors, but am considering putting the stockers back in. I hate hids

Well, I just picked up a set of OEM Projectors....really want to try the HID thing to see how it looks. I'll have to do some research to see how hard it is to install the FXRs into the Projector lights.

Do you have a link to the Silverstars you put into your factory reflectors?

Bad news, I'm sorry you'll want to spend more money.

I just bought and installed this kit on my 2014 Sierra.

The stock headlights are down right awful.

These lights make it so I can actually see now!

Super easy install. You drill a hole 1-1/8" hole in the headlamp cover. Mount the ballasts and connect to the battery and ground. took me about 1.5 hours.

I drove with them last night. What a difference.

I decided to trade my Silverado in for a new SRT Challenger but before I did I removed the brand new projector headlights with the FRX kit installed so if anyone is interested pm me. I've got $1300 invested in these but my loss could be your gain.

I need some advice. I want to see what others thoughts are on this. This week I am probably going to order the TRS package for my 2015 GMC SLT. It would me the Morimoto HIDs (35 watt 4500k) with the XB LED fog light replacements. But before I do, what are your thoughts on the XBs being to bright? I like to run my fog lights during the morning and late evenings but want it to look good not to bright. Should I just order the VLEDs for fogs and Morimoto HIDs for the headlights or order the whole package, being the TRS setup.

This question/issue may have been discussed previously in this forum but quite honestly I didn't see the answer to my question when I skimmed the 168 pages of this forum. But that's not to say I didn't miss it but I have installed my fair share of HID kits in various vehicles. I have installed at least 3-4 kits in the new generation Silverados/Sierras and all are working fine except for one kit. It just so happens to be the only kit that didn't have the integrated CANBUS in the ballasts. The problem is that it keeps blowing relays. I am pretty certain it's due to the pulsing voltage of the DRL system. I have used two different types of capacitors placed between the stock wiring and the HID wiring harness and between the bulbs and the ballasts. I don't think the capacitors are supposed to be between the bulbs and ballasts but when they didn't work for me between the stock wiring and the HID harness I started moving things around just to see what happens. When I had the capacitor between the stock wiring and the HID harness I couldn't get the lights to work at all. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have a solution other than carrying a bunch of relays around in the glove box?

Since you're not really running the fogs for improved night driving, I would recommend some LED bulbs. I did a simple swap to JDM Astar bulbs primarily for color match to my HIDs. I never have to run the fogs now as the HIDs provide great lighting.

I haven't had any problems with the TRS kit. I've been running them for about a year now. I can't remember the exact wiring, but it sounds like something isn't right with yours. Double check the harness.
