2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

I also had these noises, the rear shocks were replaced and the leaf springs and shackles were greased per service bulletin. The drivers seat also squeaks on mine when getting in and out where the leather contacts the lower trim panel, I was told this is normal,I assume it's a poor design.

Joken, I assume you were replying to me. Do you by chance know the service bulletin number? I'd like to qoute this to my dealer when I take it in. I'm also glad to know i'm not the only one with this particular issue.

Also, I brought the vehicle into my garage last night and was poking around. I believe it is also the rear shocks "sticking" a little bit as the suspension receives a load/that load is removed - like pushing down and letting go of the rear of the vehicle. Makes the squeak/groan every time. The shocks still function, but it's like there is a very minor metal on metal rubbing as the shock operates.

I have always been a GM guy, I guess growing up in the D with family members working their tends to create brand loyalty, but this truck has given me quite a few annoyances that has tarnished my impression of a supposedly "professional grade" brand. I has no problems with my previous Sierra (2011). I just recently had the TSB for frame rust performed on the truck. It's a shame I had to bring my new truck with less than 4K miles on it in to get significant surface rust dealt with. Good thing it's only a lease.

Hi Eddie,

I don't want to bring any undue focus on the dealership. They are good in customer service overall. I'll do that if it comes to it.

Can you provide me the service bulletin that user "JoKen" mentions above?

Lexzom, I do not have the bulletin number, but can obtain it tomorrow. It only applies to the leaf springs, the shocks are believed to be the source of my noise, but the tech thought he should address the bulletin as well to be safe. I also share your feelings on brand loyalty having a grandfather and father that drove GMC trucks which heavily influenced my decision in driving them. I've purchased an 07,08 and 12, and had great experiences with them, however my 14 has been a huge letdown. Someone definitely dropped the ball on this generation of truck.

AMEN. GM guy all my life...I truly wish I'd of bought a Ford this time. But like everyone says at least it LOOKS good. Like that's supposed to make up for it.

Just picked up '14 Denali today after considering the '14 F-150. I have followed this forum for issues with the new model. I have only put on 150 miles and do not notice any vibrations, nor do I think the lights are poor - I actually think they are better than most. These were the two biggest concerns I after had researching the new models. However, I am not sure I like the 6 speed. I have owned a 5.7L 90's truck and now a '04 Tahoe with the 5.3 and both were 4 speeds. After driving the 6 speed, I am glad I did not wait for the '15 6.2L 8 speed...especially with the GM fuel programming.

my new 14 slt sierra has already been in service 2 times for a sunroof rattle, I got the truck less then a month ago. . I'm about 1k miles.

Took a 350 mile round trip this weekend with the wife and we were stuck in a lot stop and go traffic on the freeway and the transmission was starting to do what most have experienced. The lazy can't find gears was bad and the clunks here and there were so noticeable she even noticed it.

Another random thing it's starting to do now is sometimes rev up in drive but seems like it's not even in drive when it it's. And then it kicks in a jolts you. I mentioned it to my service guy last time and off course I got the " it's learning " talk. Now I'm fine with that but it just seems like there is more then just computer being messed up. Could it be the transmission is already slipping ? I know crazy right.

Any way my Bluetooth doesn't always sink , and have started to notice a little shimmer around 40 mph , not to mention the noise of air creaking through the closed windows above anything 70mhp (maybe just a aligning of window and strip?) .. So I think a 3 time to service in less then a month will be necessary ..I'll be patient and I'm hopeful these issues will be addressed but I'am a little bummed to say the least.

The second day I owned my truck and starter number 3 was being installed. The dealership gave me free and installed the free the matching molded GM mud flaps / guards.

At least my dealership is standout even though GM is well...GM.

Well my first issue has surfaced....

I was using auto 4x4 after a snow and now it won't disengage...it feels like it is in 4x4 high...service 4x4 warning on my display. Off to the dealership...it sucks because I have to wait for a week to get in and driving around the city in 4x4 sucks.

anybody else have this issue?

Yes and there is a tsb for it, but no fix yet. In cold weather the TCCM will code in cold weather if left in auto/4x4 and started. Dealer told me to switch to 2 wheel drive before parking it and switch back to auto/4x4 after startup.

I'm having a problem and freaking out!!! I have never bought a new truck, took my time after two years of looking my brother bought a new sierra Texas Z71 4x4, I feel in love with this thing. The search was on! I purchased A 2014 Denali 4x4 with all the bells and whistles in the 5.3 including sunroof and Video pack. Yesterday I got ready to put in power wire for sub amp. I pulled up the carpet edge and found the very bottom floor matting for sound barrier that faces metal floorboard soaking wet. Its rained but it's been over a week now I hope it's not the windshield leaking. Any thoughts to help claim my nerves, can't get to the shop till Monday.

I've had my 2014 Silverado for about a month now. 1100 miles on it and no problems so far. Curious if anyone has found a commonality of where the trucks were assembled and the issues being reported. From my understanding the crew cabs are assembled in Mexico, the regular and double cabs in Fort Wayne, IN and the heavy duty trucks in Flint, MI.

I picked my truck up the other week after the transmission recall for neutral shift. I noticed a few piculiar things with the navi. The toll road is no longer showing up on my routes. I'll bring this up at the next oil change.

How's the navi system updated? Dealer only or over wireless signal? Any charge for the updates?

You should receive a map update solicitation letter from GM. It's an absolute rip off. They want $200 to purchase the 2015 map updates, but were advertising a special deal at $160, as if that's considered a deal. Therefore they apparently expect all of us to pay an extra $160 to $200 per year for annual updates. I wouldn't even consider it. There are not enough road changes each year to warrant this. Personally I won't update mine but maybe every 3 to 5 years. Anything else that's not on the truck NAV system can easily be acquired using a smart phone map function on the rare occasions your intended location doesn't already exist in the GM maps. If GM offered the update at $25 per year, they'd see enough volume to far exceed what they'll earn charging $200 annually. Another example of GM corporate greed and being totally out of touch with reality. Every time I think I can't hate GM more, they find more ways to fuel that fire.

Anyway, you can get the maps updated via a DVD or USB. Here's the link. http://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/en_US/GMNA/USD
