2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

Personally, I'd sacrifice that gain in MPG for a V8 engine that stays in 8 cylinders at all times. In fact when I went to test drive F150's, I specifically asked for the V8 and they kept trying to steer me toward the Ecoboost. So they lost a customer.

While that would be great. I honestly don't mind the AFM in my truck. And after a few simple mods....you can say goodbye to AFM anyways.

But I agree, I as not a fan of the EcoBoost engine. The 5.0 was great, just was terrible on mileage. Not to mention it was a 36 gallon fuel tank, so granted I could fill up every 3-4 weeks, but it would be over $100 every time and most fuel pumps shut off at $90-$99, so I was having to do 2 transactions on almost every fill up to get a full tank. Just got to be really annoying, plus the 13-14 mpg was just terrible. My 2002 Silverado with a 6" lift kit and 33" tires could get 15-16 mpg around town all day long no problem.

That's a good point I forgot about the size of the fuel tank. That auto shutoff at the pump definitely can get annoying.

it was super annoying. some stations could bypass it if I went in and asked, but that just made it even more work to just fill up the damn tank!

Oh, that drives me nuts. I still find stations that shut off at $75. They're usually in the rougher parts of town though. I avoid them at all cost. I'm so please to only have to go to the gas station every other week now. In my last truck I stopped every week. What a pain.

I have a 2014 Sierra All-Terrain. it was the first All-Terrain that came to the dealer the month the trucks were released and i have 22,000 miles on it already. i drive it 50 miles one way to work and the only problem that i have had with my truck so far is a spark plug went out around 11,000 miles, other then that its been awesome.

little complaints i do have is the windshield (suppose to be a lot thicker then previous models) seems to crack very easy or im just getting hit my tons of rocks? because i have a huge crack and 2 little ships in my windshield. also the Paint is crap, my front end loos like it went through a sand blaster lol, my front bumper is color match (black) it is covered in little chips. you would think that they would have put a heavy duty Coating on it.

Bought my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LT 4x4 at the end of May. Didn't have it a week when a guy backed into it. Just got my truck back last week. Looks good as new. Granted only got 600 something miles on it, but no problems noticed. I had a 2008 Ford F250 with the Powerstroke turbo diesel. The main problems I had with the F250 were front end issues, which a good friend of mine that works at 4 Wheel Parts told me is just common on the Super Duty due to the solid front axle. I used to read various diesel truck forums and it seemed guys had either nothing but problems or no problems at all with the 2008 and up Ford Super Duty's. Maybe it's the same with these trucks. I have the factory 20 inch wheels with the Goodyear LS-2 tires and it rides smooth. Just my two cents.

I've only had my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab 4.3L V6 for 12 days now and the only complaints I have are these:

1. I went ahead and purchased the tri-fold hard tonneau cover to go over the bed since I like packing things there during long trips to keep the cabin free, particularly when I have backseat passengers. Once the cover was installed, I noticed there are some serious openings in the bed. The ones up front just below the corner where the front of the bed and the sides come together and gaping gaps around the tailgate. I traded in a 2011 Chevy Avalanche 5.8L V8 for this truck and thought it would be as leakproof around the bed as the "old" truck. So, any suggestions for sealing these gaps without making the truck look like it's been hacked with aftermarket materials would be much appreciated.

2. I have an iPod Classic 160GB that I played during long trips in the Avalanche. At best, in the GMC, it only plays 2-5 songs and then either freezes up or sends the iPod Classic into a reset cycle. When it freezes, I have to remove it from the USB port and manually reset the iPod (not fun when you're driving down the road in the middle of nowhere without alternative means to play music). I've been on line and have caught vague discussions indicating the same problem I'm having without having any luck on what the fix is. I've even read where there is a "known" problem by GM that identifies multiple electrical/electronic problems with the IntelliLink that GM fought feverishly with the traffic safety administration since they felt it was an incidental problem not related to safety. I kind of agree with that, however, you could potentially have an accident trying to troubleshoot the problem when you're driving on the highway. What I don't get is if GM is aware of the problem, why don't they fix it instead of dodge it? Problems just refuse to go away when you ignore them as evidenced by GM recently. So, any help on this topic would also be much appreciated.

On a positive note, this truck has a lot of perks that I enjoy and the overall quality of the GMC versus the Chevy are evident. I certainly love the way it looks and really appreciate the substantial increase in gas mileage with less than 700 miles. That's only going to get better.

I look forward to your comments. By the way, this is my first post on any forum! Woo-Hoo!

Comment about 160 GB ipod. I have a 2014 SLE Sierra, and I have the same problem with my 160GB Classic. I have an extensive library (over 16,000 songs) and my 2011 Terrain handled it just fine, and so does my new 2014 Jeep Wrangler. The Sierra I have found can't handle over about 5-6k songs. If I keep my song count around 5k, it does fine. Otherwise, it never seems to be able to completely index the contents of the ipod, and after about the 4th or 5th song, it will lock up, and I have to do like you do and reboot the ipod.

This is something that GM needs to get resolved IMHO.

  • 1 month later...

If your truck was built after Sept of 13 It SHOULD have the up date in it all ready. At least that's what I'm told by my dealer. 50k truck and it has no idea what to do when shifting. Clunks, bangs, shakes, and my dealer says its "performing as designed" as the work order states at the bottom. Interesting that there is a different transmission being installed in 15s Have always been a GM guy but drove a Dodge last weekend and will trade for a Ford or Dodge when the new ones come out. What good does a bumper to bumper warranty do if the back bumper falls off when the transmission falls out...... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING ONE YOU WONT BE HAPPY AND GM DOESN'T CARE.

How come I have a feeling that most of the parts that are going bad on these trucks have made in china stamped on them!

2014 Silverado/Sierra 40% American part content, the worst of all truck makers including Toyota,Honda and Nissan.
