2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

Thx Poltergeist !

I just ordered one

Hopefully this is gonna fix it .

I do have a question

My other trucks with running AC would have some condensate water dripping down under the truck

This one so far I have never seen any .

Could this be an issue I am dealing with ?

Maybe some plugged lines ?

Will change a filter and see what it does .

And yes part number is good

#22808781

Thanks!

Any A/C is going to produce condensation and puddle under the vehicle. That's the nature and design of A/C systems, whether it be on your house, your car/truck, or anywhere else. There is nothing abnormal about it. You'll see even more on hotter days. I'd be more concerned if it wasn't dripping as it would mean your A/C was likely not working correctly.

As for your filter questions, all new vehicles come with a "cabin air filter". This was something introduced in the last 10-15 years that was originally only on a few vehicles, but now has become commonplace. They're almost always located under the hood near the passenger side firewall, or inside the vehicle under the dash/glove compartment area. The fact that the dealer parts center told you there was not one on your truck is just sad. Sounds like the counterman should be working at McDonald's and not a parts store.

Most aftermarket filter manufacturers will have a replacement for it, if not now, soon. It usually takes them a few months from the time a new platform is released before they begin making a filter for it, but with the 2014's having been made now for nearly a year, it should be readily available at your local parts store. For example, here's the WIX Part #: 24010 sold at O'Reilly for the 2014 5.3 liter. All others will have it too.

Actually the GMT-900 2007-2013 did not have a cabin filter. For some reason they did away with it for that body style. It was in the pre-2007 trucks and is now back in the 2014s. Go figure?

Had the recall done for the cold weather idle fire done. My fuel milage went from a

Average 20.5 to 13 mpg in the next 500 miles same roads, same trips, same me every day. 2000 miles later its came back up to 13.7 MPG. The dealer said yep that’s what happens when you do recalls…..Now there is another recall on something with the trans, They won’t do anymore I can’t afford for it to go down 7 more mpg.

Here is a update I took it to a different dealer they redid something and now I'm back up to 20.4 MPG...HAPPY!!!

They seem to care I buy a new truck every two years. And I know where I'm going!!!

After 2 weeks at the dealer I finally received my truck back. First off, my dealership (Beck & Masten) provided good customer service and put me into a brand new Texas Edition Sierra as a loaner, so no complaints there.

Warranty Issues:

Exhaust Fire programming update - Factory Recall - This simply adds fuel at idle to allow the exhaust to run cooler and prevent overheating of an under-hood plastic component that's prone to catch fire. It's not a proper fix but it's how GM chose to resolve this issue for cost control.

NAV system software update. Mine was very slow and often locked up when searching for an address. Hopefully the update will take care of the previous glitches.

• Steering wheel shake and vehicle wobble. This has been a common complaint on the 2014's which for the most part seems to be tire related. My thought is the Goodyear tires GM uses are probably a cheaply produced Chinese made tire branded by Goodyear. Many have experienced shakes with these tires due to being out-of-round and unbalanced from the factory. 2 of mine were out-of-round, and 2 were unbalanced. They road force balanced all 4 and said it's within spec now. I still feel a slight shake/vibration but it's certainly much better than before. I think the only way to fully resolve the issue is to purchase better tires. I will never purchase Goodyear tires again. My last 2 new GM vehicles had Goodyear and they all sucked. They were once reputable but now make a poor product. My suggestion to anyone buying a new GM truck would be to take the tires to Discount, NTB, or anyone else who will buy them while new and trade towards a decent set.

• Transmission Clunk Issue - They could not duplicate the problem. The funny thing is that while waiting for my truck I heard another man telling his service writer he was experiencing the same issue.

What I've determined is it's related to the torque converter lock-up during V4 mode. When cruising around 40-50-ish MPH the truck often goes into V4 mode with the torque converter locked up. Then when you give it slightly more throttle it jolts the rear end like getting hit by a cannon ball while trying to figure out if it should remain locked or allow for some clutch slip. This could easily be resolved in aftermarket programming but I was told it would void my drivetrain warranty. GM's torque management programming has always been problematic and it's one of the first things any tuner removes/adjusts to make the vehicle more driver friendly. However in this case I'm told "the vehicle is operating as designed". It just happens to be a really bad design... Anyway, the dealer can't do anything about it. Another failure on GM's part.

• Rear door seal hanging out - Dealer replaced the door seal. Now it fits so tight that the door chirps when closing. Hopefully it'll wear into shape over time and after a few days in the sun.

• Transmission Cooler Line Leak - Factory Recall - Due to improperly torqued trans lines. Inspected and no problems found.

• Blown front speaker - Written up as having an internal short. Dealer replaced it.

• Front Driver's Seat Jolting - This is not a recall item but there is a TSB and they've figured out it there's a seat bracket needing to be shimmed. It's a common complaint on the 2014. My seat was shifting/jolting when making hard turns or abrupt lane change. They installed the shims. I'll have to get some road time to see if it's resolved, but thus far it seems okay.

• Bluetooth Phone Screen and Radio - My complaint was the screen does not convert back to radio view once you've hung up from a call. It seems like a no-brainer, however there is a published GM bulletin stating this "operating as designed". They've received tons of complaints about this but their engineers felt it was a good idea to ignore the complaints and just issue a bulletin stating "operating as designed". The bulletin lists about 10 vehicle platforms this applies to, which further validates the level of complaints about it. So in GM's infinite wisdom they don't allow you to type a NAV command while the vehicle is in motion, but they'll force you to reach over and manually reset the screen back to the radio because their programmers aren't wise enough to have designed it to do this automatically. Don't bother complaining because they won't do anything about it. That's no fault of the dealership. Another GM design failure.

That's my list and the resolutions provided. I give credit to Beck & Masten for providing good service and seeming genuinely concerned about my issues. I also spoke to the head of service about performance programming and he stated GM is watching this like a hawk now. They have flash counters in the ECM now that record how many times the system has been flashed, therefore if programming is done outside of a GM service center they'll know and have the right to refuse warranty repairs on engine and drivetrain related issues. This is unfortunate because the 5.3 has a lot more potential for power and drivability with tuning tweaks, but GM won't allow it. He did say I can install a cat-back exhaust system and cold-air intake setup with no warranty issues.

All of my speakers blew in my 2007 Silverado. GM basically uses the crappiest of speakers, or Bose. If you don't have Bose you have garbage that will most likely blow at some point. Obviously if it's under warranty let them fix it on their dime. In my case it was out of warranty and after laughing at the $150/speaker price the dealer quoted, I drove to an after market audio shop and put in some Focals which were insanely incredible to say the least. I plan to eventually put them in my 2014 silverado just for the sound quality improvement.

Oddly enough, my system is Bose. And overall I've been very happy with the audio sound quality for a stock system, but for some reason my upper dash driver's side speaker went fuzzy after about 1 month of ownership. Hoping it was just a random fluke...

Bose systems sound great. Must be a different issue that caused your speaker to go bad.

I am on my second Sierra and I wouldn't have it any other way. Truck is smooth, get 21 mpg on highway set to 73 using cruise. I can't complain and glad I pushed through with this truck and dealer.

I would have been frustrated to drive a ford. I like Toyotas however the mpg is stupid low.

Fords to me are just cheap inside, I feel the ride to high and the arm rests are in bad spots. The GM models are driver trucks.

I do wish I would have went with the 6.2 however my driving style and wallet I am sure appreciate the 5.3. Besides I have a ducati motorcycle if I feel I need some speed.

Just curious, what tires and size are on your "smooth riding" Sierra? I'm trying to gather as much data as possible about the correlation between the ride vibrations/wobble and the tires being used.

Yeah driving a Ford just doesn't feel right at all. I like Toyotas as well but the Tundra fuel economy is terrible and I always marvel at how they managed to make it bigger than a Silverado on the exterior but it has less cubic feet of space on the interior. That's the one problem with Japanese cars/trucks is they can never get the interior space and comfort level correct. But engine and transmission-wise they're tanks.

My Sierra interior is 10X nicer than my 2011 F150 FX4 was. That truck was nice, but the interior was really plastic and had a lot of hollow sounding things (doors especially). Not to mention the 5.0L in the ford was terrible on mileage. Barley managed 13-14 around town and 18-19 on the highway. I can pull 17-18 around town in my Sierra and 21-22 highway easy.

Very satisfied with the Sierra.

Personally, I'd sacrifice that gain in MPG for a V8 engine that stays in 8 cylinders at all times. In fact when I went to test drive F150's, I specifically asked for the V8 and they kept trying to steer me toward the Ecoboost. So they lost a customer.
