2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

My truck came from the factory without the led bed lights. For some odd reason they built trucks with switches that lit up and some that did not. I checked around the forums, your not the only one. Just like they built some trucks with working back lit knobs and some they did not.

I can't believe all the problems you guys are having. I bought the very first truck off the carrier and the only thing that I didn't like was the poor headlights, so I switched to HID's. I live in northern Alberta and most of this winter has been -30C and I haven't plugged the block heater in until it hit -40C, starts great every time. The first trip we took was thru two mountain passes and was 3,500KM and my fuel average was 10.5L per 100KM. The dealership had to beg me to bring it in to do the recalls. I love my truck and enjoying personalizing it. Lift kit, wheels & tires, box rails, tinted windows (front) etc.

Yes Zactech we are lucky that we have our trucks without all the problems that some are having. But wait, how many thousands of these trucks are on the road right now? I'm sure there are many more happy owners out there!

I'm not sure but I see many in my area and I am happy with the 16 mpg here in Michigan that I am getting in my 2014 Silverado. The Tonneau cover did help a good 1.3 mpg and my back lighting on the radio knobs and HVAC knob doesn't work, but I am happy with the quite cab, radio signals are strong, head lighting is great as I have no starting problems or black smoke.

I traded in my 2013 since I couldn't stand the NON heated leather seats and wind noise from the ext cab...

I am a happy owner of a 2014 Silverado and I wish for those having issues that you do them resolved.

I traded in a 3/4T extended cab with a Duramax. I miss the power of the Duramax and diesel being cheaper than gas was great, but I changed jobs and my commute went from a 45 minute highway drive to a 7 minute drive, GM actually told me I was wrecking the Duramax and to stop using it for the short commute. The Urea injection regen cycling was a nightmare. So traded to the 2014 1/2 ton, it's like driving a sports car for handling in comparison, just lacking a bit in power from what I was used to.

For those of you that have the gear shift that hits the key turning the truck off while the the wheel is tilted up and you are putting it in gear, I was just at my dealer and looked at a new truck that just came in and it had a new style key more like the key that was in the 07-13 trucks so the shifter wont hit the key anymore. Hope this helps you

Ya i know, but it looks almost just like the 07-13 key but a little fatter. Its rounded wider and shorter about a 1/8" shorter than the early 2014 key

Hmm not sure what date they made that change mine just barely touches and not enough to make it turn off. 12-14-13 build date

Thats the way mine is and it was built 11-13-13, there is no way it would turn the truck off, it just hits enough to kinda push the key inward but it doesnt concern me cause my steering wheel never moves from all the way down. My guess would be is GM feeds off sites like this with peoples complaints and make changes to newer trucks but dont let people know about them cause it would cost them to much money to fix all the stuff that is already out there, then end up having huge recalls like they have on a bunch of vehicles out there now all over the news.

I have a sept built regular cab and my key touches the gear shifter when the steering wheel is up also. Not a big concern for me because I don't drive with the wheel that high up but It is still a design flaw IMO . One GM should of caught before the launch of theses trucks.

I noticed that when I put it in 4wd Auto one time. Putting it back to 2wd shut it up. I'm gonna stop by the dealer some time and point it out.

Mine had same issue. I have a 14' all terrain slt with 16k miles. It's in the shop as we speak on its second exhaust system and also already had the lifters and things changed.

Mine has been in the shop 20+ days of its life since the purchase in a Sept. Love the truck but I bought new to not have to mess with taking it in. It's a piece of sh**

Wow, too bad to hear this. I spend alot of time on different forums reading problems on these new trucks, this is the first where I have seen lifters being done. I thought that problem would be solved from the previous generation. I have seen entire fuse boxes being replaced also, which is unacceptable.

Well in GM's favor, the lifter issue was a snafu. They thought that was where the noise was coming from and after they did they work realized it didn't solve the problem. So then they changed the exhaust system and that resolved the issue for about 3K miles. The noise then started to come back as the mileage racks up the noise get more pronounced to the point it pretty much very annoying. I mean think about it, every time you are driving along and step on the gas a bird chirps in your ear pretty loud. Much worse if you have the rear window open.

I have owned two 5.3 liter avalanches GM trucks and never ever had an issue. Now I buy this thing and well, yeah.

FYI - I have been keeping track of all the days in service for this vehicle and very familiar with the lemon law statues. If the vehicle is not fixed this time around and then has the issue come back my first conversation will be with a lawyer not GM or a Dealer.

I believe at this point in time GM should be offering me a free 100k (bumper to bumper) mile warranty on the truck. It only seems logical for them to start stepping in and politically handling this and standing behind the truck. My dealer did offer me a nice discount on the warranty upgrade so at least I have an option.

In the end though, I really do love this truck. The looks, the ride quality, the handling and overall I love it. Just rather frustrated to buy a 50K automobile and deal with this. So I am by no means looking to get out of this truck, but I am also not looking to have frequent flyer miles to a dealer either.
