2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

OK. Well I just dropped off my truck for service stabilitrak / service brake assist again. They gave me a loaner 2014 Silverado CC. I'm driving the loaner and its smooth, super smooth. So I call them back up and tell them mine vibrates through the gas pedal and in the floor board. Never thought to much about it, thought must be normal. Also I didn't even realize that this loner was switching back and forth into V4/V8, I had to look at the display. Mine makes a distinct engine noise, and you can feel when it switches, jyst from vibration. This loner with 398 miles makes my truck feel like there is def an issue. Its crazy how one truck can feel so much different then another. I want my truck to ride like the loner and I will not stop until they fix it. I've never looked into lemon laws before but this may be a first.

If the truck was going into LIMP MODE (service stabilitrak/service brake assist light on) you have a issue with the engine it has a dead miss in it probably a bad coil pack or injector. They can get a good code and get you fixed up pretty easy in that case. It freaked me out when my 2009 Sierra went into LIMP MODE with the lights on and the tranny shifting funky. My little oil burner had fouled out a spark plug. I traded it in for a 2014 right after they fixed everything under the 100k powertrain warranty. I hope that I did not make a mistake buying another Sierra!!! So far so good except for these crappy Good(BAD)Year SRA wrangler 20in tires that vibrate and whine like a wild cat. I had some sweet Michelins on my 09 that rode very very well. I had traded the factory crap on it at around 30k.

My 09' Sierra had a crank sensor go and the truck went into LIMP mode (reduced power mode). This does not do that. The lights and warnings come on and the truck drives as usual. Sent from my Nexus 5

If the truck has a dead miss YES IT WILL do that AND DID WITH MINE. I had several other issues where the service engine light came on but it never had gone into this mode before. It has to be a serious engine problem before it does this. This truck has a bad miss in the engine not a little sensor problem. Not to worry since it is very obvious they will get it fixed up in no time flat the intermittent stuff is where they seem to have a lot of problems. I wonder where I can get one of those Tatra trucks Hmmmm

Ah yeah I understood you the first time. I wasn't disagreeing with you. I said mine 09' had a bad crank sensor and went into limp mode. My 14 just kicks on a warning message and drives as usual.

First rattling issue. Well it snowed 25cm on the west coast yesterday so I thought lets go for a drive and test 4wd. I must say the 4wd worked excellent even with the 305/40/22r falken zies 05 tires. However I had a really bad rattling noise coming from the middle of the dashboard behind the infotainment centre while driving over some washboard highways beatin up from chained vehicles. The noise was so bad that I had to turn the stereo to an uncomfortable level to overcome the rattling. I must say its probably the worst rattling noise I have ever experienced in a new vehicle. Anyone else experience rattling from the middle dashboard area? Hopefully it's an easy fix guess I will book an appointment with the dealer.

Allready took mine in for this issue.. press that piece of defrost trim next to the sensor by the windshield and it will quit... its yet another thing GM cant get right... that piece of trim just pushes in under some plastic retainer under the dash, kind of like how the door panel slides into the door... when its cold all the plastic contracts and well tight fitting isnt tight fitting any more... why GM thinks its acceptable to put plastic on plastic in a dash is beyond me...a simple piece of weather stripping would solve the issue.

Funny you say that. Apt. tomorrow. They will replace the defrost panel. When pressing down on the panel it would stop. You may notice it is warped when cold and straightens when warmer inside ...It took several weeks for the part to come in so I am hoping they changed the design to not rattle when cold. Also have a faint rattle in the dash near the driver side left vent. Hopefully they can find that problem as we'll. otherwise the truck had been great...

I bought my 2014 Silverado LT 4x4 Friday.

I gave up my 20 year old GMC Z-71. Love that truck, but she was getting old and couldn't pull the 14' trailer anymore without over heating in the summer. Other issues too. Was time to retire her to a good friend who will take good care of her in her final days.

Back to my brand new 2014 Silverado. Bought it on Friday and on Tuesday after 148 miles GM towed it to the dealer because it would not start. It will not crank over. Interior lights and radio turn on as normal, but that's it. The rest of the truck is dead.

I also smell a little burned oil from time to time. I mentioned that to the service tech at the dealership.

Here's the longer part of the story, if you care to read some of the details:

Monday I noticed when I tried to start the truck it wouldn't start. I thought maybe I didn't turn the key all the way. So I took the key out, put it back in, and the truck started with no problems. Tuesday I tried to remote start it from inside the house. The lights flashed as if it was starting. I went outside a few minutes later noticing the truck wasn't running. I didn't think it was more than 10 minutes, but maybe it was? so I got in to start the truck again. I saw the engine light. I tried a few more times and got nothing. It didn't even attempt to turn over. I have interior lights and radio turns on, but nothing more. Just an engine light.

I called the dealership who advised I call GM to have the truck towed to the dealership. Kudos to the GM reps I talked to. The very first thing they asked was if I was ok and in a safe location. I was at my home, so all was good. I appreciate their concern. GM was great in arranging the tow and called me back several times with updates and checking to ensure the tow truck driver was on time and courteous.

I was impressed with the detail in service just to get it towed. I am not impressed with the truck at this time. Needing a tow after 148 miles? really?

The dealer advised today (Wednesday) that the service department is backed up and could not put a tech on it today. He did advise GM is aware of the problem and other trucks have similar issues. He also offered a loaner car which I may take tomorrow afternoon if the problem is not resolved.

I will begin my own thread for anyone who wants to follow this situation. I'll also be sending a PM to GM rep on the forums.

Thank you to everyone posting in this thread. I read most of everyone's posts today. Good to see a support community for people who have various issues.

It seems the starting issue has to do with the cold climates. Hopefully they get it fixed for you. The issue with the oil burning smell has been posted in this forum several times. It usually goes away in a few days after you have run the truck and it burns off. I believe its a coating or something for rust prevention on new parts. Enjoy your new ride.
