2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

I really hope someone at GM is relaying all this info back to GM execs. ..I will NEVER buy another NEW GM product ever again... this truck has been a thorn in my side. from spark plug wires falling off to black smoke on cold start ups...ill probably end up trading it in... GM obviously lied to us all about all the real world R&D that was supposedly done...if it was we wouldn't all be having these issues..not to mention you have to find "a good dealer" to address issues GM is otherwise declining.

I love this video..... I guess they never tried to make it cold and then start the truck. Cause then they would see all the black smoke.... that's even if the truck would start after its 10-15 crank attempts.

This driveline issue is a problem that has obviously been carried over from the previous generation, for me its a big deal that hasn't been fixed. I spend time on Ford and Dodge forums aswell, I have followed their lunches in 2009 and I have to say, they both have had less issues.

How much did the transmitter and buttons cost Sent from my Nexus 5

Nothing so far. They did place the order without pre payment which I thought was a bit strange... but I think it's close to $200 for the 2 items. It's all new to the parts guy so I am not sure if I can use my current console (not sure what the technical name is for it) and just cut or punch out a hole or if I need to order one that has the hole already in it. They told me the transmitter should be here by Friday so hopefully I will find some time this weekend to get into it. The transmitter showed a screw in the diagram so I think it's fastened in with a screw.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out for you. Keep us posted, thanks.

Well there must no be any engineers left at Nissan then. Since their truck has not been updated in years.

There is a big difference between old looking and total crap. Yes Jennifer I said total crap,do you need my vin and mileage to pass that on to the father land?.

I posted on this several years ago. My neighbor bought a new 2005 Z71 extended cab 4X4 Sierra SLT back in 2005. He had a horrible clunk in the drivetrain, so much so that he could not even use the transmission tow mode when towing, as clunking was unbearable. He was told by GM that this was NORMAL. Then his transmission fell apart at 31k miles. He got rid of the truck shortly after. He was a loyal GM customer for years but not anymore. My 2006 Silverado crew cab Z71 4X4 has had practically no clunk at all. Go figure.

The main reason for clunking is that GM has very loose tolerances on driveline parts such as the rear yoke. If higher precision machining parts were used, there would be fewer problems.

It seems to me that the most extensive R&D on these trucks was an extensive research how to jack up the sticker prices to absurd levels while cutting production costs to minimum, and if necessary at the expense of quality. This philosophy eventually backfires.

The only way to produce a quality vehcile is to use quality components and parts and adequate quality control during assembly. Great design by itself will not guarantee a good product if these other requirements are not met.

I have a regular cab Z71 and my biggest complaints is the HD radio and the rattles and the creaking it makes in cold weather. I also have had some smaller issues ..GM claimed to have tested these trucks more than any other silverado?

my service tech told me it is just the cam adjusting from V4 to V8. I don't think it's a reliability issue, just a major annoyance when it is hot out and you have the windows down.

Thanks for the info. I feel better. The truck is so damn quiet any little noise I hear concerns me. I think I need to sit back and enjoy my truck while it's new...

Service stabilitrak, service brake assist came back on again. Its 2° outside currently and was about the same the last time it came on. I think it came on both times a few days after I washed the truck.

This "clunk" goes back as long as could remember. Its 2014 and these "higher precision maching parts" should have been used by now. Lets not make excuses. Its unexceptable.
