2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

So took the '14 in yet again with 4000kms on it for a long list of issues;

1) Engine Oil Leak- Oil Leaking around the filter, replaced filter

2) Warped Dash Pad- Replacement pad on order

3)Unresponsive Steering Wheel Controls with USB device - operating as designed - What a joke POS

4)Unresponsive throttle- Opperating as designed - I'm a fool for buying GM

5)390kms/90L of fuel (city/hiway combined) - No Problem found!! - absolutely disgusting!! 12mpg is horrible from any perspective

6)Noise & Vibration in auto 4x4 - although they were ale to replicate the problem they say it is with allowable GM limits - a 1972 Internation Scout makes less noise!

7)Gearshift hits key and shuts truck off when tilt is up - operating as designed - these clowns would made make a wheel square and tell their customers it's supposed to be that way!

I hate this truck!! 4500kms with a purchase price of $53000.00 and what a disappointment!! If any of these dyed in wool GM sheeple want a great deal on my 2014 loaded crew AT.. msg me!

My Dealer just called; apparently GM is pretty embarrased over their gear shift hitting the key issue, so they are releasing a smaller set of keys.

Hey Steve, you called it a "gearshit", hence my response. But this is first time I heard of this issue. I am glad they are at least addressing it.

Contacted my dealer today and they knew nothing of any key issue or GM changing the key size in the 2014 Silverado... We need a service bulletin # on this.

I'm quite certain Steve1234 is totally jacking with you about the key replacement. It sounds like a very sarcastic response and I'm throwing the BS flag on that one. GM hasn't addressed hardly any of the real issues on these trucks, much less would they address something like a complaint about the size of the key. They clearly didn't pay any attention to the fact that the placement of the key related to the size of the dangling key fob allows for it to continually bang against the steering column while driving and will soon cause scratching and wear marks on both the fob and the steering column. It's just another poor design feature on these trucks that got no real world testing before the release. The design should've been like many other GM vehicles,,, a keyless ignition.

Don't hold your breath for the release of "new small keys", as I believe you'll see a unicorn before you'll see those keys...

While I agree with you that there is a severe lack of real world testing with these vehicles and simple now decade old technology has not been incorporated in GM's best efforts is simply making this auto maker a bit of a joke. There are quite a number of options that you would think GM would include on their vehicles that they can’t seem to get together; how about auto high beams, adaptive cruise control or heated rear seats? But hey what do you expect for $50,000.. untested junk and vinyl seats. While I do not have a replacement key as of yet I will post the bulletin # and you can mount up your unicorn and ride on down to the dealership for your very own. I just messaged my dealer and he said he can't find one as of yet, he was in a training session and that was where it was discussed.. as soon as I have one I will post it.

Hmm I just tried mine put the tilt all the way up and the gearshift does actually slightly rub the key but does not hit it enough to make it turn and shut the truck down. I wonder if they have already made a key width change? My key does seem to be smaller than a lot of other vehicles including my 09 Sierra. My build date is 12-11-13. I am attaching a picture of my key, it is laying on top of the remote key fob in the picture so you can kinda judge the width better. So is your key wider than this one steve1234???? what about anyone else out there in internet land with a early build 2014 is your key wider or not?

Mine is a november build and also just hits a little but wouldnt shut the truck off just like yours. I think last years keys were wider but shorter so thats why they cleared. Not a big deal for me cause i never move my wheel from where i have it set.

My easy no cost solution for a banging key fob, cut and silicone a piece of mouse pad to the affected area, problem solved. 23lcn84.jpg

Thanks for showing your solution, but I didn't buy a $50k truck so that I could apply hillbilly fixes to manufacturer design flaws. Same reason I wouldn't put duct tape over the seal gap on the rood satellite antenna to prevent the leaks that have been reported in this thread.

I'm all for innovation, but in this case I would've expected GM to actually do some real world testing to determine the need for a better design.
