2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Of course they are changing something in the air/fuel ratio mapping. That's the only way a "program change" could prevent these situations causing fires by the exhaust components becoming too hot. I initially questioned the logic behind doing a programming change to fix this problem as opposed to doing a proper mechanical design change, but as we all know it comes down to money and the bottom line. The new programming development and ECM re-flash costs GM practically nothing, whereas if they were to properly fix the problem by replacing components, or wrapping them with heat guard materials, or re-routing the flammable components would cost them a fortune and require a ton of lost time in installation labor. Therefore GM went the cheap/easy route and did a minor tuning change which I would gamble is simply adding fuel, therefore causing the exhaust to run richer. Leaner is meaner (faster and hotter), while running it rich means dumping more fuel into the system causing the exhaust mixture to be cooler. This also will burn less efficiently hence the potential for decreased gas mileage. You can thank the bean counters for this one. Although it's something that never should've happened in the first place had there been proper R&D done on the entire vehicle in all situations. It would've been a simple initial design fix, but now that there are tens of thousands of this new platform on the road already the cost to do a proper repair vs. the 8 reported fires related to this issue is not justifiable to GM. Another sign of a company going in the wrong direction and being willing to sacrifice the well-being and satisfaction of their customers to continue making record profits. It's very disappointing.

I have not taken mine in for the recall yet, and I figure if mine burns up I'll use my full replacement cost policy to get a different vehicle that's not so flawed in design. And it would be a shame because I have really loved this truck as a whole, but I have continual concerns based on the multitude of issues being reported. I've always said to never buy a first run of a new vehicle platform, and now I really wish I would've waited for the 2015 after they've had time to de-bug all the issues.

Anyone remember the Ford Pinto...? Behold the bean counters...!

Just so you know that if it does burn up the insurance wont pay for it unless the recall is done. They know the recalls are out there and the customer is supposed to get it fixed ASAP. Just what my insurance said when I had my 08 with the heated washer fluid pump recall.

When I buy a new ride I go on web sites to track what may happen and cross my fingers. New ford 4.6 first came out didn't have enough threads in the heads spark plugs blow out. They came out with sync people couldnt get them to work. Ecoboost v6 big bugs in those. Dodge truck in 94 trans. lines held in with a clip vibration from the Cummings clips comes out no trans fluid. That one bit me, lemon law got a new one. 2010 Hemi timing chain failing around 40,000 they claim its the cylinder deactivation. The new Ford body I wait awhile on that one. I have owned way more Gms than anything else, just luck, I don't know but smooth sailing. I even owned one of those 5.7 early diesels out side of changing out fuel lines once, injection pump at 100000 miles no problems. Its a gamble with them all, its after the sale that matters.

I knew about the Ford Ecobust V6 issues, but some other problems like the ones with the Dodge HEMI timing chain are new to me. It seems that everybody has problems with these cylinder deactivation systems.

I don't think I qualify for Lemon Law yet.

Told by the dealer today that they are calling in an engineer concerning the starting problems. Could be some time before he/she arrives.

Still waiting on parts for heated seats. Still no word on power steering.

No movement on interior missing features.

What is very funny is that several employees from multiple dealerships have commented that I shouldn't have purchased a new model! Probably not what GM wants dealers to tell customers. Oh, and I'm definitely not the only one up North having problems. Looks like GM has a real problem![/quote

Got my truck back - heated seat fixed finally. Scheduled for another visit Wednesday so they can try to fix the poor starting / black smoke.

Developed rattling noise in the cab somewhere today - guess I'll have to get that looked at also. This truck is spending more and more time in the shop!

its that stupid piece of trim between the Main part of the dash and the windshield... if you push down on it next to the sensor it will stop.. mine started rattling about 800 miles ago.. dealer ordered a new one for me... BETTER FIX IT.. Cuz IM OCD and it will driv eme crazy.. not to mention it shouldnt be rattling... Also while i was at the Dealer the first time.. A guy brought in a New High Country.. and they started it several times and each time it puffed blueish black smoke.. like an old diesel... not really sure what was causing it... but seemed odd for a brand new 55k truck...

is there a loss of power and mpg now as a result of this reprogramming of the ECM due to fire recall? Seems like GM could be facing some hefty legal ramifications if fuel economy takes a nose dive and/or there is a drastic reduction in power output.

Hyundai and Kia had to pay out close to $400 million.

Throttle responce seems better and feels like slightly more power honestly.. but I couldnt baby it and get better than 15.5 and that was mostly coasting under 55mph.... My exact same highway trip after the recall (100% Highway) netted me Conservatively -6MPG potentially upt to 8... but we'll just call it 6.. at any even even if I was driving in a blizzard against 60mph wind my fuel economy shouldnt have dropped from 22.6 to 14.1....

IF you were driving against a 60mph wind, you could easily lose that kind of mileage. A 20mph headwind will knock mine down 2-3mpg.

Hmm... I noticed a little black upon remote starting.... Didnt think much of it. Anyone else?

Which wasn't the case.. point is I lost between 6 to 8 mph on the same exact route same conditions +/- 10°f and as a previously stated I couldn't even

Muster 15.5mpg babying it coasting half the time on same route from town to my house where under the same conditions I might add I could easily habe obtained 22+ and could get 19.2 mpg in the 08 Denali I traded in on it... but who cares?....point is my mileage tanked after the "ecm update" same as many others.... we're not just making this up...in the era of $4 premium fuel...I KEEP TRACK!!

If you've had the "fire Update" GM fattened the mixture, hence the black smoke. Others have reported a significant loss in MPG. I have also, but I would say it's a combination of extreme cold temperature, my new exhaust and a lead foot and the new calibration.

A couple days ago mine puffed black smoke when remote starting as well. It has 1800 KM on it. It really doesn;t like starting when it's cold either.. Even when it's been plugged in all night.

Mzodarg's explanation sounds believable... The update made it run more rich. Mine was kinda parked on a dirt pile for 3 days and at a slight angle. I figured it was from fuel getting somewhere it shouldn't while sitting at an angle. But if it is that common, then I'm guessing its related to that update. Once I'm done work, in March, I'm dropping it off with a list of things that are bugging me about it. I had to cut the flapper out of the exhaust because it stranded me a couple times. Hasn't happened since. Also added a FloPro muffler, to give it a little more rumble. Makes lots of noises over bumps, some sound like the rear dif is gonna drop out of the ass end.
