2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

For those that don't have this.. settle down before you threaten to file another worthless lawsuit against GM that won't do anything. We already established some trucks have this. I think just the 6.2 trucks? Does anyone with a 5.3 have this?

Ill be heading to the dealer tomorrow for:

Ecm update (recall)

window regulator (recall)

clunk in drive train

dash rattling

Radio/fan lights

Poor fm reception

blower motor makes high pitched whistle when on defrost...

hopefully they get it all fixed...supposedly they pre ordered the parts when i called 3weeks ago to set up this appointment...what parts remains to be seen...

Clunk in drive train, and rattle in the dash will most likely not get resolved quickly. Prepare to accept the dreaded NORMAL verdict.

Is your clunk anything like mine?

2014 Sierra Hard shift in 2nd gear.

Mine is when taking off from a dead stop with moderate acceleration...can also hear a clunk if I step on brakes hard when coming to a dead stop..I think ive got a rear end and suspension issue... ive got a 2007 sle cre cab with 205k..and.it doesnt make either noise...so it shouldn't be "normal"

don't play. Are you serious?

Yes in serious, every time i see a complaint on here i go and look at mine and so far have no problems. The cargo lights are designed not to work while in gear, just throwing that out there in case you were trying to turn it on while in gear. My truck was built in November

The issue of the new light switches was discussed here. Nothing new to get upset about.

yup, taking off from a dead stop, start to move... CLUNK! 1st to 2nd gear shift. right now the dealer after taking my transmission OUT, they have found a torn gasket inside the transmission. and only 1000 miles on the 2014 Sierra 5.3 Texas edition. Dealer is telling me that the bolts for that cover/gasket were not torqued correctly...... :bs:

Lemon Law it then. Same problem not fixed for that many times. You have not been happy with your truck since you got it.

I don't think I qualify for Lemon Law yet.

Told by the dealer today that they are calling in an engineer concerning the starting problems. Could be some time before he/she arrives.

Still waiting on parts for heated seats. Still no word on power steering.

No movement on interior missing features.

What is very funny is that several employees from multiple dealerships have commented that I shouldn't have purchased a new model! Probably not what GM wants dealers to tell customers. Oh, and I'm definitely not the only one up North having problems. Looks like GM has a real problem!

As I said several times before, outsourcing parts manfuacturing all over the world has some very negative consequences. More often than not, quality control is not sufficient to prevent problems like this.

I know that for several model years GM had a problem with the driveshaft slip joint needing to be lubricated. When you stopped or took off the slip joint was tight and jumped instead of sliding smoothly causing a clunk. Not saying that is your problem but it has happened in the past and not just with GM vehicles. What is your build date? Did you check to see if it was a Monday or Friday yet??

I had a TransAm several years ago that every time you turned a corner the entire car would jump and jerk like you were running over the neighbors dog LOL it turned out to be a simple additive for the positraction rearend that was left out at assembly. A one ounce packet of the additive and I never had another problem with it. I got a bit frustrated with the dealership but eventually they had it figured out and it was very simple fix I bet yours is too.

Just made the first trip after the recall ecm update and im beyond livid. .. just several weeks ago we made the same trip and averaged over 20mpg arriving at destination with over 1/4 tank (308 miles) this time arrived on E.. averaging around 14MPG ALL HIGHWAY.... 100% unacceptable!!! GM better fix this or I will get my money back one way or another this truck has caused me way more stress than I am prepared to continue to deal with!

Because this is happening to several people now I am beginning to believe that they are indeed changing the fuel/air mapping and ignition timing or doing something that affects those in some way.

Of course they are changing something in the air/fuel ratio mapping. That's the only way a "program change" could prevent these situations causing fires by the exhaust components becoming too hot. I initially questioned the logic behind doing a programming change to fix this problem as opposed to doing a proper mechanical design change, but as we all know it comes down to money and the bottom line. The new programming development and ECM re-flash costs GM practically nothing, whereas if they were to properly fix the problem by replacing components, or wrapping them with heat guard materials, or re-routing the flammable components would cost them a fortune and require a ton of lost time in installation labor. Therefore GM went the cheap/easy route and did a minor tuning change which I would gamble is simply adding fuel, therefore causing the exhaust to run richer. Leaner is meaner (faster and hotter), while running it rich means dumping more fuel into the system causing the exhaust mixture to be cooler. This also will burn less efficiently hence the potential for decreased gas mileage. You can thank the bean counters for this one. Although it's something that never should've happened in the first place had there been proper R&D done on the entire vehicle in all situations. It would've been a simple initial design fix, but now that there are tens of thousands of this new platform on the road already the cost to do a proper repair vs. the 8 reported fires related to this issue is not justifiable to GM. Another sign of a company going in the wrong direction and being willing to sacrifice the well-being and satisfaction of their customers to continue making record profits. It's very disappointing.

I have not taken mine in for the recall yet, and I figure if mine burns up I'll use my full replacement cost policy to get a different vehicle that's not so flawed in design. And it would be a shame because I have really loved this truck as a whole, but I have continual concerns based on the multitude of issues being reported. I've always said to never buy a first run of a new vehicle platform, and now I really wish I would've waited for the 2015 after they've had time to de-bug all the issues.

Anyone remember the Ford Pinto...? Behold the bean counters...!

Well I am in day 6 with my Crew, which has a build date of 9-17-13. No LED rings on the radio and fan motor knobs. No cargo button light but the light only works while in park.

My south of the boarder truck starts, drives good, but I have noticed that the accelerator seems to take quite a bit more effort to push down than what I am use to. Not sure if it's me or the truck and since it's really cold here in Michigan I am not running to the dealer to start to squabble. I am very happy with my truck, SO FAR!

When I buy a new ride I go on web sites to track what may happen and cross my fingers. New ford 4.6 first came out didn't have enough threads in the heads spark plugs blow out. They came out with sync people couldnt get them to work. Ecoboost v6 big bugs in those. Dodge truck in 94 trans. lines held in with a clip vibration from the Cummings clips comes out no trans fluid. That one bit me, lemon law got a new one. 2010 Hemi timing chain failing around 40,000 they claim its the cylinder deactivation. The new Ford body I wait awhile on that one. I have owned way more Gms than anything else, just luck, I don't know but smooth sailing. I even owned one of those 5.7 early diesels out side of changing out fuel lines once, injection pump at 100000 miles no problems. Its a gamble with them all, its after the sale that matters.
