2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

Issue #1: Heated seat (driver side) works sometimes, and then it doesnt get very warm when it does work. Dealer working on that issue.

Issue #2: This one concerns me, the 4WD quit working on me in the middle of a snow dump. Daughter was riding with me, told me she thought we were having "issues", sure enough, the "Service 4WD" was up on the DIC. Stopped the truck, restarted it, only light on the drive selector that stayed lit was the "auto", but it wasn't in any type of 4WD, almost caused me to have an accident when I stareted up a hill. Called On-Star, put me in touch with Chevrolet Roadside Assistance, wanted to tow it to a dealer where I refused to purchase a vehicle in the past, so I took it to a level parking lot and parked it. I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of this one, I got it back to my house (well, 1/2 way up my driveway), I don't need something laying down on me with 4,500 miles on it that had a sticker of $53,000.

I buy a new truck roughly every 3 years, they all have been pretty much the same options: Full Load, Crew Cab 1/2ton. This time around I purchased a 2014 GMC SLT All Terrain with sunroof & nav, went with the All Terrain for two reasons; I hate those dumb looking sissy steps on the back bumper of the other models and the heated seats are heated with an element as opposed to the poor heat from the "warm air blowing" concept. This truck replaced a loaded 2010 LTZ that had an aftermarket Nav unit install, so my comparison is between the two trucks:

2014 PRO's

-Quieter Interior

-Heated Steering Wheel

-Better appearing interior

-More Engine Power

-Remote Start App

-Softer Steering

-Stereo sound quality

-Programmable Exit Seating

2014 Let Downs

-Horrible AM/FM/XM radio signal

-Sluggish USB controls

-Displays akward

-Ride Height unnecessarily high

-Engine Oil Leak

-Been towed twice within first 200kms for not starting!

-Top of steering wheel does not heat

-Wind Whistle

-Console seems unfinished and just two big open pits to fill with junk,

-Even more throttle hesitation than previous

-Poor Fuel Economy average of 19.7l/100kms (May improve with more kms I only have 3000kms currently)

-Projector Beam headlights don't offer much of a wide beam

-over $10,000 more for equivalently equipped 2010 model!

-Gearshift hits the key and shuts the truck off if the tilt is all the way up!

-Heated seats don’t work well with remote start

-No Volume indicator

Overall I am very disappointed with the truck when considering value, it really doesn’t offer much as far as extras over the previous model, yet is 25% more money! Lots of flaws with the engineering and GM’s latest greatest doesn’t offer the options their competitors have currently.

Sounds like you need to make a appointment at the dealer for some of your issues...

Stopped by the dealer today for them to test out the heated seats that I been having problem with.. When turn on the heated seat switch with back and bottom for both driver and passenger seat. The back is burning hot, but the bottom is dead cold... Truck will be back in Monday for them to reflash the BCM..

in 2014 GM decided to switch the method for heating the seats on the seats with heated & cooling. The old method had an element under the cushion, the new method has a heating coil infront of a fan that draws the air from the rear seat blows it accross and element then blows the air up your a$$.. Total fail if you live in a colder climate! These trucks should have been offered at a reduced rate!!!

Have to disagree with you about the ride height. 2007-2013 is 73.7" and 2014 is 73.97". Sorry but 1/4" isn't even enough to fuss about. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Sorry, I should clarify; what I mean by ride height is the entry height of the truck (Door Sill) why are these trucks so high off the ground? I realize Dodge & Toyota are even higher.. I just don't understand the purpose. But I also don't understand why ALL trucks now a days are so big and bulky... They look dumb needlessly and aren't we supposes to be moving toward efficiency.. This oversized brick certainly could not only easily get more efficient but also look allot better in the process.

Its' been to the dealer 4 times; twice for no start, one time they told me it was ready and it wouldn't even start in their parking lot when I went to get it! Once for an oil leak, and once for the horrible radio and defrost dash panel fitment issues.. Which GM says is "operating as designed" $53,000 and GM can't get a radio to work properly! They brag it up just like they brag up the Cadillac Cue system.. but try and use that POS cue system.. complete junk unbelievably underpowered processor! If you are a dyed in the wool GM guy, you will love whatever crap they put out.. if you are open minded find the features that are important to you and a manufacturer that supports those features.

Be more specific with the oil leak.. What was the issue? Did they figure out your no start issue? Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the truck. Did you buy the truck without listening to the radio? Or notice that a panel wasn't fitting correctly?

The oil leak they believe was to do with the filter sealing, minor fix but major driveway clean up! The start issue was twofold; 1) reprogramming some software 2) rebuilding the starter. I would have thought that in 2014 ALL vehicles the radio would work, I did not bring a USB cord with me when I test drove it so I did not know it would be such junk.. I guess I kinda took for granted that when they advertise features that they worked as good as previous models or better. And again stuff like the gear shift hitting the key are just things I didn't look for in my 15 minute test drive. These are things that you find out after you own it for a while. I hate this truck so much I don't even lock it, I would hope someone would steal it but it probably wouldn't start for them either!

I wonder if this is an isolated issue or a more common one. There have been several complaints about this already in this forum. I believe one cause was a frozen exhaust valve.

Mine was towed in twice over a no start issue within the first 200kms, they reprogrammed something and rebuilt the starter and have not had the no-start issue since. But the gearshift will hit the key and shut the truck off if your tilt is all the way up and you move the shifter from park LOL These trucks are a joke!
