2014+ owners having issues with their truck?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 double cab Z71 LT2 with 5000 miles on it and I've been to two dealers about my problem which is a shake from 50 mph and up. The first dealer changed the wheels and tires (stock tires/rims)to verify the shaking problem. Even after switching the wheels and tires the shake still occurred. The dealer told me there was no current fix but that they would look into it. Then I took it to the dealer I bought it from which is Bonner Chevrolet in Kingston, PA because as I put more miles on the truck the shake gets worse. The service department yelled at me and refused to work on my vehicle. They told me to come pick up my vehicle. Due to the manner I was treated, I called GM to speak to a representative about everything that has happened. I told GM I was afraid to drive my truck due to the shake. GM told me they would not tow my vehicle to another dealer to be looked at for another opinion. Please keep in mind that these "after market wheels and tires" were part of the sales agreement when I purchased the truck from Bonner Chevrolet. Bonner had the wheels and tires installed for me before I even signed the paperwork and drive the vehicle off their lot. To top it off, Bonner Chevrolet said my shocks are after market which is inaccurate. The truck has Rancho shocks and struts which come stock on the z71 off road package trucks. I don't know what to do now and afraid to drive it due to the shake. Are their any fixes for the shake problem on these trucks yet?

PS .for you loudmouths I was unaware punctuation was such a large issue in this forum and yes English is my first language. I'm a vet .

I just bought a 2014 silverado crew cab last week. I noticed a minor shake in the engine while idling (not 100% of the time). Ive felt this in older trucks that Ive owned but figured a brand new truck wouldnt do this. My question is, is this normal to feel this? if so, at what point does normal idle shakes turn into some i should be concerned about? I was under the impression that i shouldnt feel any shakes (minor or not). I have set up a appointment with my dealership, but i want to be prepared when i go in. Also, Im hearing a noise like a belt noise coming from the engine especially when i and parked in a drive through next to a wall. Should i be hearing any ticks form belts? Am i being too picky?

Any help would be great

Jason

Chris, I wasn't trying to be rude or a "loudmouth" as you suggest. I was just pointing out that your post was virtually unreadable therefore making it difficult for anyone to offer useful advice comments. Now that you've re-typed it we can actually understand the key points you were trying to make and therefore can comment properly on it. If you read back through this thread you'll see there have been several "shake" complaints, and it appears thus far GM has not been able to offer a resolution because they don't know exactly what's causing it. I would expect that once they analyze and get one case of it resolved, it'll be sent out as a TSB for all dealerships to know how to fix it.

With your particular situation it seemed a bit suspect that the dealership installed aftermarket wheels for you and then you developed a shake, however it appears they put a set of stock tires/wheels back on it for a verification test and the problem still persisted. Correct? If so, it sounds like something else in the drivetrain, which could be a myriad of issues. I can tell you I had a similar issue in my '99 Z28 which ended up being a component in the tail shaft of the transmission. It required tearing the transmission completely apart to replace the distorted piece in the shaft housing. I'd hate to think you've got something that severe wrong with yours, but regardless, it's on GM to fix this without any grief to you. It's a new truck under full factory warranty, and they are required to make it right. They should also put you into an equivalent loaner vehicle until they figure yours out. I know that you can contact GM customer service directly and not go through the dealership that's currently giving you the runaround. GM will then contact the dealer and tell them to make it right. You just need to be professional about it, as they will not respond well to profane threats, etc. (I'm not saying you'd do that). One of the things you can mention directly to GM is that you are a member of various GM Truck forums and that you are posting your story on those sites. GM recognizes that bad PR on the forums and social media will absolutely hurt their product sales, and I'd bet they will work with you to resolve the problem. It just sounds like you bought the truck from an unprofessional dealership and need to get a bigger hammer by going through GM corporate.

On a side note, the fact that they suggested your Rancho shocks were not OE stock is absurd. That's one of the heavily marketed pieces of the Z71 platform and any dealer worth their weight in salt should know this. It sounds like the dealership is run by a bunch of mis-informed morons that know nothing about the product they sell.

Just my .02...

Thanks for understanding and for the response and kind words. I've been fighting with GM and they don't seem very responsive thus far. I was hoping by coming to this forum someone would be able to shed some light and help me. Thanks for being a gentlemen and providing your thoughts.

Yes, I noticed the same rough idle. Feels like a cylinder is missing. 2014 Silverado 5.3, 1,400 miles.

I've noticed it too... Anyone take theirs back to the dealer yet? 2014 silverado 5.3 700 miles

There has been multiple posts on here stating the same issue. They brought their trucks to the dealer and found it to be a loose, or bad plug wire.

The ticking sound is probably just the natural sound of the direct injection on this engine. Nothing to worry about.

I have a formal issue in with GM about the lights. The have been contacting me monthly to advise if there will or will not be a fix. I haven't heard anything in a couple weeks. Maybe I should call to see if there is an update to.

Hopefully they will have an answer for dial illumination soon. It would be nice to have it fixed with my first free oil change. I'm sure it wouldn't take the dealer long to fix with a TSB issued by GM. I see some members have already fixed the problem on their own. I am debating over just soldering in the resistors myself but if something electrical goes wrong with truck I wouldn't want to void my warranty. Hmmm think I will wait for GM's response.

Soooo I spoke with GM corp and was told that they will not fix the problem. Chevy made a ton of trucks with no lights at first and that was up to design! It had changed now but they are not fixing it.
